[PT] Zwift Pro Cycling {2021}
Mresuperstar
Team Foundation

i.imgur.com/ckD8PD7.jpg

The fast-growing, extremely popular indoor training platform for cyclists and runners is taking the leap from its virtual playground to the professional racing circuit by funding the upstart Zwift Pro Cycling team. The program will make its Man-Game debut this upcoming 2021 season in the top-flight Pro Tour division.

Hired on as the team's first manager is Mresuperstar. The American Man-Game veteran returns stateside to manage his 10th season, fourth in the Pro Tour.

Mre's wealth of experience in the sport has been gained at the following stops: Team CSC-Orbea (2012-14), Movistar-US Postal (2015-16), Newton Foundation (2017) and most recently Desigual (2018-20). More history can be found below.

Most of the cyclists from the now disbanded Desigual team have expressed interest in following Mresuperstar to Zwift Pro Cycling but, in order to build a strong Pro Tour team for seasons to come, many changes have to be made.

Training time is over. Time to hit the open roads of the real world.

Mre's Zwift Training Challenge
Basic Information

i.imgur.com/zUuFqwA.jpg

Not only will Mresuperstar be managing the team this season, but he has also agreed to train alongside his riders using Zwift. Instead of pedaling aimless, Zwift has challenged Mre to a friendly season-long competition to see if he can earn more points than his cyclists will earn in the Pro Tour standings. How it works:

- Every one mile recorded on Zwift equals 1 point.
- Every 50 feet of elevation gained on Zwift equals 1 point.
- Man-Game cyclists will have their Pro Tour points given a x4 multiplier.
- Competition starts: Once the Man-Game transfer window closes.
- Point standings updated weekly in-real life with proof of Zwift rides.
- Competition ends: 2021 Man-Game WC Elite RR race is posted.

Transfer Window - Part 1

Riders in. Riders out. We open the transfer window by re-signing and releasing riders Mresuperstar has brought over the Desigual squad last season. Surprisingly, only three cyclists have been set free but others are likely to be traded/sold.

Riders Released

The following 3 cyclists were let go before the start of the transfer season:

David Abal: Another year older and the willy veteran sees him headed out the door. It's the third time Mre has shipped out of the former great Spanish climber from his team. Abal, on the verge of retirement, departs after a fantastic third-place finish at last season's Tour of America. A lasting memory of a final farewell. Abal leaves after four seasons under Mre's management.

Jernej Svab: After trying to bring back Svab through the first two rounds of renewals, it was clear Svab didn't want to come to America and opted out for free agency. The Slovenian departs after racing two seasons with Mre. His only victory was a breakaway win last year on Stage 5 of the Tour of Norway.

Magno Nazaret: When Nazaret was signed for the minimum of 50,000 before the 2019 season, it was seen as one of the biggest steals of free agency. Yet, Nazaret never quite lived up to his abilities on the road. The mountain goat had lost his climbing legs. We believe his time at the top of the sport is now up, but hope his expertise can help a younger climber learning in the PCT or CT ranks.

Riders Renewed

The following 12 cyclists signed new contracts heading into the transfer season:

I already wrote in another HQ that I might need to get a Spanish sponsor on board. Your availability list confirms that feeling... Some pretty interesting targets here Smile

Ulrich Ulriksen
I had the same thought on Spain being an area of opportunity.

@MRE - To your post in my HQ, Rhim enjoyed his time at Desigual very much. And he and some of his American friends will all be looking for further development opportunities in the PT coming up. Honestly, can't say I was thrilled to have a US focused PT team in the picture, but since we don't move in the same financial circles maybe there will be potential for mutual benefit. Look forward to talking.

If you think Spain is an area of opportunity now, just wait three more years until we add a certain 2002 guy...

I was hoping Erick Herrera would be available for transfer, but, well, I can't blame you for that. Smile

Wow that kit... No way of missing that in the PT races!

There is one rider on the list who I have an eye on. We shall talk indeed!

Transfer Window - Part 2

The first transfer season for the Zwift Pro Cycling team was a huge success. For starters, not many remnants left from Desigual. Manager Mresuperstar has rebuilt the roster with a complete makeover in his return to the Pro Tour. A new identity.

We start with the former Desigual riders who have departed to new teams.

Riders Sold

Justo Tenorio: The program's All-Time winningest rider and runner-up in last year's Vuelta a Espana is on his way to newly promoted MOL for a hefty cash fee of 1,000,000 and a fellow GC competitor (see below). Tenorio was the face of Desigual for three seasons and produced some great results. But, with his decline on the horizon, Mre decided the time was now to cash out to bring in new leaders.

Omar Fraile: The reigning Spanish ITT champion is thrilled to be joining the reigning Pro Tour champions Isostar - Specialized as Zwift Pro Cycling pocketed 450,000 and the signing of a budding Frenchman (see below). Fraile departs after tying Tejay Van Garderen for the second-most program wins (11) in a solid 2020 promotion season. Quick against the clock and can hold his own on the climbs, Fraile will be a valuable asset as Isostar - Specialized looks to defend its title.

EDIT: Fraile was then sold off to cycleYorkshire for 1,250,000.

Erick Herrera: Former stagiare and development project Erick Herrera drew the interest of start-up CT team Volcanica - Fox and will get a chance to prove he can win more races than his national championships (just because he is the only rider to show up at the start line). Volcanica - Fox paid 150,000 for his services.

Conor Dunne: The towering 6'8" Conor Dunne is heading home to where he belongs: Eurosport x GCN. The entertaining Irishman nearly joined GCN last season before getting pulled away by Desigual. Now, it's back to the studio for hosting duties on the GCN Show. Dunne was sold for 100,000.

Riders Bought

Mattia Cattaneo: Out with Tenorio. In with Cattaneo. The 31-year-old Italian still has two good years ahead of him on a modest salary of 500,000. Also, with 46RDs, Cattaneo could race two grand tours — something Tenorio couldn't do.

Clement Russo: Whatever Russo accomplishes in his individual career, he will also be a Pro Tour champion. The Isostar - Specialized product needs one more season to reach his full potential and we are excited to add his talents to our team. A nice value 26yo prospect signing with a wage 60,000 to help finalize the Fraile swap.

Pleasure doing business with you. Nice to bring Dunne home after trying last year and being unable to make it work. I will look after Carr and bring him back to you next season a stronger man.

Cattaneo is an excellent buy!
