After 2 days in the Mountains, we return to slightly flatter terrain but only through the first half of the stage as we leave Muret. The last 70km as we make our way into Rodez contains 4 Cat 3 climbs and an uphill finish which should favour the Puncheurs. We have so far seen a stage win for Bobridge and 2 for Demare so the likes of Mohoric and Vakoc will be hopeful. However, controlling the breakaway may prove difficult.
A 7 man breakaway established early on today. 3'05 is the gap with 180km of countryside ahead of them.
Roman
Conti, Erdenesuren
Brkic
Gall
Williams
Chernetskiy
No contest through the sprint but with 98km to go the gap is down to 2'26.
75km remaining for the Peloton as they approach the first of the hills. The gap being slowly reduced, now to 2'12, thanks to the work of Project: Africa and Puma-SAP with support from King Power and ISA - Hexacta.
Williams is best placed in the KOM in this group down in 6th but he can only manage 3rd at the first of the Cat 3 climbs and Roman takes maximum points to protect Bardet's lead.
Chernetskiy is first over the 2nd KOM of the day. With 41km to go, this group has almost been caught by a fast-moving Peloton.
Chernetskiy wins the 3rd KOM as well. It's only he and Williams who remain out in front with a 40 second gap with still 32km of riding ahead of us.
We start seeing splits in the Peloton. The only two Top 20 GC riders caught out are KOM leader Bardet and his team mate Inkelaar who is in White.
A 124 man Peloton reaches the 20km to go banner and the breakaway has been caught. We still have a Cat 3 climb coming up as well before the finishing hill.
3km to the top of the Cat 3 and 14km to the finish and we see a surprise attack from Demare! Bobridge is in pursuit.
Mohoric goes off after this duo while the rest of the Peloton is left looking for guidance.
Demare attacks again through the KOM and has opened up a 23 second gap to Bobridge and Mohoric. It's then a further 38 seconds back to the Peloton where Vakoc is left to set the pace.
Not a lot of co-operation shown between this trio but they are together with 7.5km to go.
52 seconds behind them it's Godoy (13th @ + 3'08) who has just attacked and has opened up a 20 second gap.
45 seconds for these 3 back to the Peloton and Demare goes again, this time on the downhill, with 4.5km to the line.
1.7km for Demare who has 23 seconds to the duo of Bobridge and Mohoric. They are still 37 seconds clear of the Peloton.
Demare is under the kite and he's off on his way up to the finish line. The sprint between the two behind him has also kicked off and these 2 are stronger uphill so they may just catch the Frenchman.
200m to go and he's round the final bend and out of sight of the 2 behind him! He won't be caught now.
And indeed it is Stage Win Number 3 for the Green Jersey! Demare would have had his team worried when he attacked given his prowess in the final kilometer but he shows he is in great form and takes a commanding victory here.
Bobridge ends up leaving Mohoric for dust as he is 2nd.
Yates wins the Peloton sprint for 4th ahead of Godoy and Lecuisinier.
No change in the race for Yellow which means Roglic leads for another day.
Demare extends his lead in the battle for the Green Jersey to 41 points.
Bardet may have dropped from 6th to 15th in the GC but he still has a 50 point lead in the KOM.
Inkelaar dropped out of the Top 20 of the GC today but is still comfortably in White.
Gazelle remain the leading Team.
