Stage 5 is a 17.4 km team time-trial event. There is some rolling terrain, but we'll have to see how much does it affect the teams. Generali and Puma would surely like to take the top GC spots after today, but they need to make up 40'' on Yates and Zwift have a decent setup here as well.
Festina are the first team that completes the course. They didn't place particular importance on today's stage, but they're our early marker.
23'26''
Xero come in next and are 19'' faster. It's all about limiting the deficit for Areruya here.
23'07''
Mapei are next and are 5'' slower than Xero.
23'12''
Generali were one of the early teams to start. They were fastest at the intermediate check and are now fastest on the finish. We'll see if they're time holds.
22'28''
We catch Zwift at the intermediate time check and they are 25'' behind Generali. It looks unlikely Yates can hold onto pink today.
Moser have a solid lineup here in support of Kudus. They come in 2nd, but lose 32'' to Generali.
23'00''
Carlsberg are of similar quality to Moser and come in just behind them in 3rd now.
23'02''
Aegon are next as they finish only 7th. As of now it seems Xero and Mapei have done a bit better than expected.
23'12''
We're able to get a glimpse of Puma at the time check. They're 2nd at 7'' behind Generali. Not impossible to bring this back, but it will be an uphill task.
Amaysim are on the finish line with Morton. 8th place and 47'' behind Generali is worse than expected.
23'15''
Zwift have made it now, have they defended pink? No, 46'' slower so 6'' too much for them against Generali.
23'14''
King Power were looking good at the time check and now come in 3rd. A nice boost for their GC rider Reis.
23'00''
Here is a shot that illustrates the rolling nature of this course with percentages up to 6-7%. Puma does a decent job on this course, but they lose a further 4'' at the line to Generali. Comfortably 2nd though.
22'39''
Gazelle have a very solid TTT unit here and it shows as they limit Formolo's deficit to only 32''.
23'00''
ISA - Hexacta come across the line in 7th, also a nice effort from them.
23'03''
Huski with a similar performance to keep Dombrowski as high as possible.
23'06''
The final team on the course is wildcard team Polar and as expected their lineup was strong enough to challenge the best.
23'13''
Here are official results. Generali wins the day 11'' ahead of Puma. The predicted two best teams coming on top. Moser gets the nod in a 3 way 32'' tie for the final podium spot.
The one downside of Generali's victory today is that Dennis takes pink and Sicard is 2nd with a 5'' gap as he couldn't hold on to the first five finishers. Yates holds onto 3rd at 8'' and could potentially take back pink tomorrow with an upset sprint result. Herklotz sits 4th at 11'' and will have to wait for the mountain stage to target pink.
Nothing changes in the other classifications. Kemboi remains the points leader and will try to extend his lead over Yates tomorrow. Yates will get the nod to wear the maglia azzurra he shares with Peters tomorrow. Areruya stays in the maglia bianca.
