154km of relatively "flat" road greets the riders here for the first road stage of the race.
The sprinters are definitely the favourites here but Houle main favourite maybe due to his ability to conserve energy when going over the bumps in the middle of the stage.
It's going to be a hot day so I think the riders would be thankful for the opportunity to ride completely underwater for a short period of time.
It takes a little while but with 120km to go we have a breakaway of just 3 riders who have a 2'50 gap to the Peloton at this stage. These riders are Van Hooydonck, van den Berg and Bernas.
Shortly after this there appeared to be a bit of disharmony as Bernas wasn't working so the other 2 slowed down completely in protest. Their gap dropped to 1'10 but they resolved their differences and have started stretching the gap out again.
The first of 2 sprint points of the day is won by Bernas.
It's then the first of 3 KOM sprints which is very closely contested but Bernas just wins it on the line.
Same order over the 2nd KOM.
Bernas makes it 3 from 3 and will be our KOM leader going into tomorrow.
50km remaining and a long train of riders working at the front of the Peloton. The gap has been brought down to 1'42.
What you see here is a whole group of sprinters after putting their all in for the sprint points. 32km to go and the gap is under a minute.
25km now and van den Berg is off on his own now 31 seconds ahead of Bernas who has a further 22 seconds to the Peloton.
But no chance for the Mapei rider with Scotson having led the chase. Everything is back together with 15km left.
3km left. Not the most organised sprint as Huski lead the long train of riders but Van Poppel only has 1 rider in front of him.
1.3km now and all hell about to break loose.
600m and riders are all over the road. At the moment it's Boudat in the lead with Santos next to him.
300m and Boudat still in the lead but Cullaigh is coming through with some speed!
Only 100m now and it looks like Cullaigh should have this in the bag but there's a big fight for the podium spots.
And indeed it is Cullaigh who wins Stage 2. Boudat and Santos held their speed well for 2nd and 3rd. Van Poppel is 4th and Banaszek rounds out the Top 5.
