Tour de France - Stage 11
Luis Leon Sanchez
le Tour de France - Stage 11 Report

This is definitely a tough stage to call. It's not the longest at only 178km but it offers a bit both for the Climbers and the Puncheurs. The bookies have a Top 6 favourites list consisting of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pum.png Demare, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/fpc.png Yates, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/fes.png Lecuisinier, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png Roglic, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/isa.png Vakoc and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/afr.png Bobridge. If the first Cat 2 is ridden hard then you'd have to think the Puncheurs won't stand much of a chance. The second Cat 2 of the Cote de la Croix Neuve crests only 2km from the line so this could be an opportunity for GC riders to make some time gains as well.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/Stage%2011%20Profile.png

13 riders today given the license by their teams to join the breakaway and the Peloton seems content with it too. Given today's stage profile, maybe these riders will back their chances.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0001.jpg

115km to go and the breakaway really struggling to pull away as their lead, which peaked closer to 3 minutes, is only 2'17.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0002.jpg

75km now to go and the gap is 1'53 so it's being managed at the moment.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0003.jpg

The gap does come down now as it's 1'25 with 60km remaining. It doesn't help that 6 strong riders from the teams with more than 1 rider here aren't helping the other 7 with the pace.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0004.jpg

We're on the lower slopes now of the Cote de Sauveterre. Still 40km to the finish and another 7.3km to the KOM on this Cat 2 climb. The breakaway very visible and only 44 seconds ahead of the Peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0005.jpg

The breakaway barely hold on to fight for the KOM but it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gzl.png Tratnik who takes maximum points.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0006.jpg

28km now remaining which includes a Cat 3 and a Cat 2. The 111 man Peloton is only 28 seconds behind a lead group of only 4 riders now. They are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gzl.png Gazelle duo Bernard & Tratnik, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/isa.png Koshevoy and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/hsk.png Conti.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0007.jpg

13km to the line as the Peloton starts the 3.9km Cote de Chabrits. The breakaway also finally caught.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0008.jpg

Only 4km remaining now and 2.6km to the top of this short but very steep climb. No one really interested in taking control of this one but surely there will be some action before we reach the KOM and descent 1.5km to the finish.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0009.jpg

3km and only 1.6km from the top. It's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pum.png Puma-SAP on the front with Niu and Madouas guiding Demare to what could be a 4th stage win of this year's Tour.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0010.jpg

1.6km to the line and it's all pretty downhill as we go over the top of the climb. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pum.png Demare has dropped back somewhat but this is set up to be a pretty frantic finale.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0011.jpg

Under the kite goes pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pum.png Madouas who isn't bothered about who's following him. Behind him everyone is beginning to sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0012.jpg

400m and it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png Sirironnachai who is currently in the lead but he has a line of riders behind him including pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pum.png Demare who is coming through at pace but will need to find a gap to make his way through.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0013.jpg

The Frenchman has found the gap he needed and is in the hotseat with 200m to go! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/fpc.png Yates on his left shoulder isn't going slowly either!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0014.jpg

But pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pum.png Demare is far too strong and he does indeed make it Stage Win Number 4!! This will very much help his quest to win the Green Jersey.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0015.jpg

It's close on the line but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/fpc.png Yates just pips pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png Sirironnachai for 2nd. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png Roglic is 4th ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/xr0.png Bennett and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/eav.png Godoy. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mos.png Hirt, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gen.png Sicard and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/p4e.png Pluchkin round out the rest of the Top 10.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0016.jpg

Only 40 riders in the first group on the road but all of the Top 15 in the GC are safely here and avoid any time losses.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2011/PCM0017.jpg

Again, no changes in the GC where pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png Roglic leads.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pum.png Demare extends his lead in the battle for Green to 71 points! None of his competitors scoring points in these hilly stages while he's winning them!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/iso.png Bardet's KOM lead has not come under any threat today.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mol.png Aular takes the lead in the U25s after pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/iso.png Inkelaar struggled in the Hills and drops to 3rd.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gzl.png Gazelle still lead the Teams.
