Tour de France - Stage 15

le Tour de France - Stage 15 Report

The final week of le Tour doesn't get any easier as the riders take on a pretty tough 152.6km stage from Belfort through to Porrentruy. 5 Category 2 climbs, a Cat 3 and a Cat 4 await the riders which should provide good KOM action. The finish, however, is flat and comes 14km after the summit of the final Cat 2 so we could see some brave attacking rewarded today. Similar favourites list to yesterday with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pum.png Demare listed as the man to beat which doesn't seem too likely.

Definitely the type of stage which the breakaway could succeed in and a lot of riders decide that's the best approach as we have a front group of 18. A very strong breakaway with 7 of the Top 22 in the GC. 1st, 3rd and 4th in the KOM have seen the need to be here too.

Questionable strategy from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/iso.png Isostar as Inkelaar wins the first KOM. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/amc.png O'Connor is 3rd and now 27 points adrift in 3rd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0002.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tti.png Chernetskiy wins the Cat 3. From now it's only Cat 2s.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0003.jpg

Not the most conventional way to try preserve the Polka Dots but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/iso.png Inkelaar wins the first Cat 2 ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/amc.png O'Connor. The Australian only 19 points back now. The White Jersey is in 4th a further 13 points back. 100km still to go and the gap at 4 minutes.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0004.jpg

A mix of a high pace at the front of the Peloton and more co-operation up front means the gap is down to 1'32 with 80km remaining.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0005.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mos.png Osorio wins the next KOM with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/amc.png O'Connor 2nd and now only 11 points behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/iso.png Bardet who is yet to pick up a point today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0006.jpg

The breakaway open the gap up to 3 minutes with 60km and 3 Cat 2 climbs remaining.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tti.png Chernetskiy wins the sprint to the next KOM ahead of the two ISA riders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0008.jpg

26km to go now and only 1km away from the summit of the penultimate climb of today's stage. The 89 man Peloton is only 1'09 behind the 15 man breakaway.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0009.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/afr.png Bongiorno won the KOM. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/iso.png Inkelaar the only one further up the classification to pick up points as he is now 3rd and only 16 points behind his team mate.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0010.jpg

The Peloton is down to 66 riders as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/eav.png Goos drives a high pace! With 18km to the line, the gap for the remaining 6 escapees is only 44 seconds.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0011.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/isa.png Pinot is alone as he goes through the final KOM but his focus is on another stage win! The riders behind him won't give up just yet!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/fpc.png Yates attacks in the Peloton behind and brings with him a line of others.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0013.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/isa.png Pinot remains out front with a 17 second gap to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gzl.png Geoghehan Hart. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/iso.png Inkelaar is a further 27 seconds back in 3rd on the road. It's then 12 seconds back to this group of 4 which consists of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/fpc.png Yates, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aeg.png Olivier, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mol.png Choi and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/xr0.png Bennett. A small 23 man peloton, led by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pum.png Demare, is only 24 seconds behind the quartet.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0014.jpg

Bad news for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/eav.png Godoy who is in a group more than a minute behind the Peloton. He will slide down the GC.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0015.jpg

The GC quartet is chased down by a combination of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tti.png Chernetskiy and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pum.png Demare. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/isa.png Pinot has 4.2km to go and a gap of 22 seconds to the Gazelle man who is only 11 seconds clear of the Peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0016.jpg

Only 1.3km now for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/isa.png Pinot. Behind him, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/evo.png Chiarello and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tti.png Kritskiy have attacked from the Peloton and together with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gzl.png Geoghegan Hart they make up the 2nd group on the road.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0017.jpg

It's back to back stage wins for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/isa.png Thibaut Pinot!!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0018.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/evo.png Chiarello is 2nd ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tti.png Kritskiy and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gzl.png Geoghegan Hart.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0019.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pum.png Demare is 5th ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/fes.png De la Cruz while the Peloton is led in by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/fpc.png Yates and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/fes.png Lecuisinier.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0020.jpg

No gaps awarded within the first 30 riders thanks to the sprint from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pum.png Demare which means little change in the GC. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/evo.png Chiarello did pick up a time bonus to move into 3rd and back within a minute of the lead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/GTM/TourdeFrance/Pics/Stage%2015/PCM0021.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pum.png Demare with an 88 point gap in the battle for Green.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/iso.png Bardet leads the KOM by 10 points to his team mate Inkelaar while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/amc.png O'Connor is only a single point back in 3rd.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/iso.png Inkelaar further opens up the gap for White.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/iso.png Isostar remain the leading team but their gap has come down somewhat.
