Newton Foundation {2017}

Team Foundation

i.imgur.com/4eFkIR9.png

Entering his sixth season in the Man-Game, manager Mresuperstar has seen it all. From promotion to relegation, there was hardly ever been a dull moment.

Last season ended with a rather crushing low, as Movistar-US Postal dropped from the Pro Tour and fled from the sport altogether. But, it was a hardship that opened a new opportunity for a cause that hits close to home.

In the middle of last season, the father of one of his cyclists, Taylor Newton, suffered a stroke and passed away.

The news was devastating to the team and the Newton family. The sudden loss caught everyone off guard. In the aftermath, Newton launched a charity for stroke victims and survivors.

Partnering with the National Stroke Association, the Newton Foundation was established and agreed to take over the sponsorship void left by Movistar-US Postal with the team now in the Pro Continental Tour.

Joining our cause to help provide "Hope after Strokes" are the following companies: Bissell, Desigual, Fox, HTC, Trek and Bontrager.

We hope to raise awareness and funds for the Newton Foundation while dominating the PCT circuit in the process. All prize winnings this season will be matched by our sponsors to be donated to the National Stroke Association.

I like the clean look of the jersey. Hopefully tou get the chance to bounce back and promote into PT once again.

Luis Leon Sanchez
A unique and interesting team idea with a jersey will definitely ensure that your team is as popular as ever. As normal, I look forward to all our chats to do with transfers and everything else!

sutty68
I hope from the sad news of Taylor Newton's father there rises a great new team with the backing of National Stroke Association to raise awareness of the condition Wink

SportingNonsense
You never do let your Newtons have a straight forward life do you? Pfft
After a couple of battling seasons, perhaps PCT will be a nice change of scenery? Looks like you have a few good options for how to approach it.

It wasn't easy. But, here we are. 13 riders are still under contact from the old Movistar-US Postal reign. Gone are the likes of David Abal, Brent Bookwalter and Tyler Farrar.

And this is by far from the end. Our remaining riders have been told none of them are safe (well, except Taylor Newton). We will be listening to all offers to try and field a competitive team back in the PCT.

We have a solid base to build from, but perhaps it's time to start from scratch? Time will tell. Phone lines are open.

Season Goals Breakdown

In a quest to spread awareness of stroke prevention around the globe, our team goals have us winning in three different continents outside of the United States.

Yet, it's a certain American that we will lean on heavily. PCT circuit beware.

We start with the overall standings goal.

PCT Team Standings: Top 5

We are hoping this stint in the PCT won't last long with the goal being a quick promotion back to the Pro Tour. Hopefully, we have the cyclists to get the job done.

Tour of Almaty: Win

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/profiles/c1/c1_tal.png

A hilly circuit that our main man Tejay Van Garderen is drooling over.

Tour of South Africa: Win

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/profiles/c1/c1_tsa.png

A six-day hilly paradise for Van Garderen with a day for our strong TTT unit.

Nelspruit Classic: Win

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/profiles/c1/c1_nec.png

Another day in South Africa for the TvG show.

Japan Cup: Win

Why not cap the season with another win from our top American?

First Signings

The Newton Foundation is proud to announce three signings.

Aggrey Sebright

29 Years Old : € 50,000 : 227th CT Individual Standings (18 Points)

Former 2016 team: The Spark Project p/b Bollé

FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFTDHPL
69566077647068525451675677

Needing a replacement for the declining and released Brent Bookwalter, and Sebright does just that. He didn't have much success last season, but hopefully in a more comfortable environment and surrounded by fellow Americans, he can thrive. He joins a strong TT squad already with the like of Omar Fraile and Carlos Verona.

Jake Keough

30 Years Old : € 50,000 : 322nd PCT Individual Standings (23 Points)

Former 2016 team: Indosat - ANZ

FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFTDHPL
72606460716776577875606471

Keough, another misplaced American that gets to come home, has a decent kick and adds depth to our lacking sprinting setup. Roman Maksimov now at least has the option to setup a mini sprint train if he choose to do so (he won't).

Sebastian Henao

24 Years Old : € 60,000 : 532nd PCT Individual Standings (2 Points)

Former 2016 team: Coldeportes

FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFTDHPL
65747463707269536368666764

Henao is the second youngest rider on our team now (behind Marcos Altur) and is still improving. He is likely to max out at the end of this season with 76 MO/HL. Not quite as good as his cousin Sergio Henao, but a solid helper for any road that is going up.

Three good signings for the team, especially at 50k, 50k and 60k respectively.

Transfer Season Finished?

It's only the third day of the hectic transfer season, but the Newton Foundation
is rumored to have already wrapped everything up and are finished.

Mresuperstar confirmed he is content to head into the season with this current roster, but would still entertain offers if cash was thrown at him.

So, here is what looks to be the team's final signings for the 2017 season.

Robert Sweeting

30 Years Old : € 50,000 : 501th PCT Individual Standings (5 Points)

Bought from In-n-Out p/b Carrefour for 125,000

FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFTDHPL
73537060726975587675636067

A depth sprinter that can be used in hilly stages as a helper or go after glory himself if the race doesn't get strung out. Doubtful Roman Maksimov will ever call on the use of a sprint train, but he does have Sweeting and Jake Keough if he wants one. Can't say we don't support our lead sprinter.

Carter Jones

28 Years Old : € 50,000 : 289th CT Individual Standings (6 Points)

Bought from Telia - Brussels Airlines for 60,000

FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFTDHPL
69737269717067536366736869

The 28-year old, unmaxed American has the capabilities of 75MO/74HL in the future. It's unlikely we will be able to get him there is year with him being at level 4.00, but Jones should provided needed depth in our climbing unit regardless.

Janier Alexis Acevedo

32 Years Old : € 50,000 : 597th PCT Individual Standings (0 Points)

Former 2016 team: Coldeportes

FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFTDHPL
69727664727168526369716166

This is likely the last decent season for the veteran, or maybe he is already washed up having failed to score a point last year. We bring him in on the cheap to help support Tejay Van Garderen. Hopefully, Acevedo can stick with the team captain as long as possible.

Daniel Eaton

24 Years Old : € 50,000 : 383th PCT Individual Standings (69 Points)

Former 2016 team: Becherovka-Petrof

FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFTDHPL
71616771707171656267676571

Last but not least, you might be looking at the next great American TT specialist. Don't believe me? Check his potential (7). Eaton can develop massively over the next two seasons at level 3.10. He could easily be a 79TT or there are plenty of other options to make him a hills or even a cobbles helper. The future is bright at only 24 years old.

Well, there you have it. That's 20 cyclists with the wages sitting at 2,495,000.

We renewed 13 cyclists, signed 5 free agents and purchased 2 cyclists.
Despite not selling any riders, we are still sitting on a chunk of cash.
That money will be used on training, which will be announced later.

As of right now, here is the Newton Foundation 2017 roster (without training).

No big changes, but indeed a nice looking new American Hero Grin

Love how all-in you're going with the US, while the team still looks like it's in amazing shape!
Very happy Robert Sweeting was able to find a home with you, hopefully he is able to lead out Maksimov those rare times he decides to use his lead out men.
