Tour de Pologne - Stage 6
Tamijo
[HC]Tour de Pologne

Stages 6/7 Bukowina Tatrzanska 191,5 km

From Jelenia Góra team busses have driven almost 450 km east to Bukowina Tatrzańska, close to the Slovakia border. Bukowina Tatrzańska is a small village of under 3000 permanent residents, the farm village transformed into a tourist destination in the interwar period.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage6/profile.jpg

The stage will start and finish in Bukowina Tatrzańska, a circular route with climbs in the two villages Gliczarów (5.5 km 5.4%) and Ząb (3.8 km 5.3%) as well as the final climb to Bukowina Tatrzańska (2.2km 6.4%). A total of 15 climbs without any flat sections in between, 8 of those counting as cat 1., a stage that is bound to have an impact on the final KoM, and might very well also have an impact on the overall result of the race.

172 riders are starting at 6th stage. A beautiful day with almost no wind.

Media favourites:

The Race

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Fablok - Bank BGZ is leading the peloton at the first 20 km, then we get the attack. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mol.png Rovny start it all, soon pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Craven, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Le Gac and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cdb.png Hansen join him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage6/01.jpg

The four riders in the break all got potential to survive in this kind of terrain

Back in the peloton it is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Pszczolarski and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Matysiak leading for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Froome, the pace is high some riders already have trouble keeping up.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage6/02.jpg

158 km to go, 2 climb done, 13 remaining.
KoM leader pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Venter knowing that he will probably lose the KoM if he stays in the peloton, attacks.

At this point the original breakaway is 3 minutes ahead, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Venter close the gap over just 2.5 km. Not bad for Eritel – Sonatrach now having 2 riders in the first group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage6/03.jpg

While the breakaway is starting the first KoM climb, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png first Samwel and a little later also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Prades attacks from the peloton.

Up front Eritel – Sonatrach make good use of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Craven pulling for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Venter, but it is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mol.png Rovny passing the top first.

At the next KoM again is it pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Craven leading for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Venter. And again it is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mol.png Rovny being the strongest.

This time pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Craven use a lot of energy, falling behind over the top.

126 km to go, 5 climb done, 10 remaining
4 riders leading.

In the peloton Fablok - Bank BGZ continues to lead for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Froome and taking is easy, the best placed rider in the breakaway being pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Le Gac 34th at 7’14.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Craven just barely makes it back to the group before pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Le Gac accelerates, going for the next KoM, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Craven can’t hang on, again pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mol.png Rovny is the strongest. This time pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Venter 2nd, if he keeps this up he will keep the KoM jersey.

With less than 90 km left, the situation in the peloton is the same, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Fablok - Bank BGZ leading with 3 riders in a moderate pace, distance to the first riders almost 10 minutes.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Prades and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Samwel one by one hanging in between some 5-6 minutes behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage6/07.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mol.png Rovny attacks early on the next climb, that turns out to be a bad idea, for the first time it is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Le Gac winning the KoM.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Craven lose 1’18, will be hard to get back this time.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Sweeting and
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Jones have taken over the lead in the peloton between 4th and 5th KoM, but the distance is not reduced, when the breakaway passes over the top it is 9’56”.

Yes! Looked like Venter but MGUCI officialt gave it to Hansen.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage6/09.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Kraftwerk has moved 3 riders to the front to help pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Newton Foundation, the peloton is now slowly reeling in the breakaway, distance is 8’59 over the 6th climb.

The higher pace forces some rider to take the back door out of the bunch also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Samwel and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Prades adventures are over.

On the final KoM climb pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Le Gac attacks from about 2km, opening a gap of 46 sec over the top. He has just under 10 km left and only the final climb to 2.2 km climb to Bukowina Tatrzańska

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage6/13-1.jpg

Further back we see no attacks between the favorites before they reach the final short climb, only 8 riders can keep up in the dash to the final line.
Race leader pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Froome, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Van Garderen, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ino.png Anuar Aziz, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Schreurs, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Costa, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/iso.png Mohoric, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ged.png Ulissi and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/min.png Betancourt

It is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ged.png Ulissi winning the sprint for 5th in front of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Schreurs, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Froome and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Van Garderen.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage6/14.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Venter fought bravely to keep him KoM

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ged.png Ulissi took the points jersey, but will most like need a breakaway win tomorrow to keep it.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/iso.png Mohoric coming in with group Froome did everything to challenge Yates in the youth competition, but not enough now 2nd only 6” behind.

One of the biggest losers today was pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Flügel not coming in with the Froome group he lost 3rd to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Van Garderen, also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Yates and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Gautier lost their positions to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Schreurs
