Stages 6/7 Bukowina Tatrzanska 191,5 km
From Jelenia Góra team busses have driven almost 450 km east to Bukowina Tatrzańska, close to the Slovakia border. Bukowina Tatrzańska is a small village of under 3000 permanent residents, the farm village transformed into a tourist destination in the interwar period.
The stage will start and finish in Bukowina Tatrzańska, a circular route with climbs in the two villages Gliczarów (5.5 km 5.4%) and Ząb (3.8 km 5.3%) as well as the final climb to Bukowina Tatrzańska (2.2km 6.4%). A total of 15 climbs without any flat sections in between, 8 of those counting as cat 1., a stage that is bound to have an impact on the final KoM, and might very well also have an impact on the overall result of the race.
172 riders are starting at 6th stage. A beautiful day with almost no wind.
Media favourites:
The Race
Fablok - Bank BGZ is leading the peloton at the first 20 km, then we get the attack. Rovny start it all, soon Craven, Le Gac and Hansen join him.
The four riders in the break all got potential to survive in this kind of terrain
Back in the peloton it is Pszczolarski and Matysiak leading for Froome, the pace is high some riders already have trouble keeping up.
158 km to go, 2 climb done, 13 remaining.
KoM leader Venter knowing that he will probably lose the KoM if he stays in the peloton, attacks.
At this point the original breakaway is 3 minutes ahead, Venter close the gap over just 2.5 km. Not bad for Eritel – Sonatrach now having 2 riders in the first group.
While the breakaway is starting the first KoM climb, first Samwel and a little later also Prades attacks from the peloton.
Up front Eritel – Sonatrach make good use of Craven pulling for Venter, but it is Rovny passing the top first.

At the next KoM again is it Craven leading for Venter. And again it is Rovny being the strongest.
This time Craven use a lot of energy, falling behind over the top.

In the peloton Fablok - Bank BGZ continues to lead for Froome and taking is easy, the best placed rider in the breakaway being Le Gac 34th at 7’14.
Craven just barely makes it back to the group before Le Gac accelerates, going for the next KoM, Craven can’t hang on, again Rovny is the strongest. This time Venter 2nd, if he keeps this up he will keep the KoM jersey.
Result 3rd KoM

Hansen
Craven
Prades
Samwel
With less than 90 km left, the situation in the peloton is the same, Fablok - Bank BGZ leading with 3 riders in a moderate pace, distance to the first riders almost 10 minutes.
Prades and Samwel one by one hanging in between some 5-6 minutes behind.
Rovny attacks early on the next climb, that turns out to be a bad idea, for the first time it is Le Gac winning the KoM.
Craven lose 1’18, will be hard to get back this time.
Result 4rd KoM

Sweeting and
Jones have taken over the lead in the peloton between 4th and 5th KoM, but the distance is not reduced, when the breakaway passes over the top it is 9’56”.
Le Gac takes another KoM.
Result 5th KoM

Yes! Looked like Venter but MGUCI officialt gave it to Hansen.
Kraftwerk has moved 3 riders to the front to help Newton Foundation, the peloton is now slowly reeling in the breakaway, distance is 8’59 over the 6th climb.
The higher pace forces some rider to take the back door out of the bunch also Samwel and Prades adventures are over.

On the final KoM climb Le Gac attacks from about 2km, opening a gap of 46 sec over the top. He has just under 10 km left and only the final climb to 2.2 km climb to Bukowina Tatrzańska
The peloton now at 5’44”

Froome
Rovny is closing in on the final climb, but not enough to deprive Le Gac a solo win.
Hansen 3rd. at 2'20, 17 seconds in front of Venter.
Further back we see no attacks between the favorites before they reach the final short climb, only 8 riders can keep up in the dash to the final line.
Race leader Froome, Van Garderen, Anuar Aziz, Schreurs, Costa, Mohoric, Ulissi and Betancourt
It is Ulissi winning the sprint for 5th in front of Schreurs, Froome and Van Garderen.
Venter fought bravely to keep him KoM
Ulissi took the points jersey, but will most like need a breakaway win tomorrow to keep it.
Mohoric coming in with group Froome did everything to challenge Yates in the youth competition, but not enough now 2nd only 6” behind.
One of the biggest losers today was Flügel not coming in with the Froome group he lost 3rd to Van Garderen, also Yates and Gautier lost their positions to Schreurs
