Second flat stage in a row and today the sprinter teams should do more to guarantee a sprint decision as the break will try their luck again.

Not surprising to see a rather big group of 7 going for their chance. UBS not really interested in those stages, neither is mountain team Ticos. And so far the sprinter teams didn`t chase with many riders and hence chances were given for the break.

KoM wise as well an interesting stage. 16 points on the board today and in especially Vanthourenhout and Bookwalter already collected some. But actually Schultz as only rider without any yet.

Big step forward for Vanthourenhout. The Belgium takes the 10 points and is up to 3rd in the competition passing Schelling.
Handley also just 3 pts ahead and could be passed on the Cat.3 while Barguil with +15 is out of reach for the moment.

Meanwhile Aeropostal with Campos/Nieves, Reddit with Meyer and MOL with Rybalkin are chasing.
4vs7 at the moment and 7min gap with 120km to go.

Meanwhile the Cat.3 went to Rosas ahead of Eaton. So not that interesting. But Vanthourenhout just won the last 2 points with Bookwalter and him in a photo decision. Hence Handley remains in 2nd just 1 point ahead though.

Back to the peloton. Van Winden already chased for quite some time but it`s MOL in general as also Ratiy is working now. The only other team is Reddit, where Meyer got some team support in Vuillermoz and another one.

But yet again the gap dropped better earlier.
3min with 60km.
2min with 40km
And then froze.
Still 1'16 with 13km to go and hence yet another close decision.

One rider though won`t win for sure. Eg just got dropped from the break and won`t come back.

2,4km and it`s looking okay for the sprinters as the gap is down to 28s and not looking impossible to close.

Reddit with Simon-Canelon-Croket in pole position.

Also Bertilsson, 2x Richeze, Tewelde, Kreder, Keough, Haddi, Aregger, Maikin and Geschke well placed.

Then one reason why the sprinter teams probably struggle. Aeropostal is far from their strength earlier this race or in the past years. Both in chasing and setting the train up for Granjel Cabrera.
Dall'Antonia and Granjel Cabrera only follow behind this first bunch with several sprinters aiming his bike though and are in a long line behind.
Vanoverschelde-Von Hoff-Nizzolo-Park.

2,1km and Rosas is the first to sprint. Actually a decent sprint skill he has alongside his TT ability. Hence probably was the favourite of the break and now has made his move.

Canelon still leading out Croket with Tewelde in the mix.
Keough looks like opening the sprint but basically just by the look of it. Not really accelerating yet.
And the line is coming closer to Rosas in especially. Only Vanthourenhout and Eaton remaining next to him. The others got caught.

It took until the 600m mark when Haddi finally started his sprint on the left and Tewelde/Croket on the right.
Canelon still in the lead though says it all and shows why they presented this win to Rosas.

Big win for SanCor and nice for Rosas in especially. Solid season he is having with another stage win to his name.

Close sprint behind but not for the win...

Max. Richeze takes a surprising 2nd ahead of Tewelde. Big for SanCor, which rarely see a 1-2 by their riders. Then Croket and actually Vanoverschelde in 8th and then the other favourites behind him show the weirdness of those sprint stages.
They might lack the energy after all the climbing...but it`s just the 14th day and now only starting the 3rd week.

Vanthourenhout as 7th as only other break rider with a top10 today.

And last but not least there were around 20 riders that lost contact in the end and losing 4'06. Biggest name Krasnoperov. Surely not made for flat stages.
