Tour of California - Stage 7
Aquarius97
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-000.jpg

Final stage of Tour of California and we end with a 24-km TT around Big Bear Lake. The clear favourite for the stage win is Jerome Coppel, but after the last two hard days he might too tired to dominate the stage, and GC riders like Tenorio or Dekker could come into play for the stage win. Slagter will be crowned today as the GC winner, as he has almost 3 minutes on Amador.

The first rider to set a good is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Stenersen, with a time just over 33 minutes

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-001.jpg

Another rider of Spotify doing an early time is the Swedish champion, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Wetterhall, who is 24 seconds slower than his team-mate

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-002.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cdb.png Steensen can’t beat Stenersen’s time by only 5 seconds, but this another strong performance for a Carslberg rider this week

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-003.jpg

The Belgian champion, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Cornu, is the next one in action today. He is one the main favourites for the win today, and he has proved that, setting the fastest time by 37 seconds, becoming the first rider to go under 33 minutes

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-004.jpg

Another stage favourite, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Paillot, is on course now. He also goes under 33 minutes, but his time is not enough to beat Cornu’s. He has been 14 seconds slower

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-005.jpg

And we have the biggest favourite for the win now on our screens, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Jerome Coppel. And he hasn’t disappointed. He is the new leader, although only by 9 seconds over Cornu

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-006.jpg

A lot of time would have to pass until another riders with any chance of doing it well today started. And it’s pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Duarte. Hasn’t been the best race for the Corsica International winner, and today wasn’t his day neither, finishing outside of the provisional top10, over 1 minute behind Coppel

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-007.jpg

Fifth best time for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Dees, who has been 50 seconds worse than Coppel

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-008.jpg

The winner of the prologue is on course now, but this time, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Fraile can’t surprise the big favourites, and can only be fourth, around half a minute slower than Coppel

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-009.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Izagirre has been working the whole race, either for Degenkolb in the flat stages or for Tenorio is the mountain/hill ones, and now has the chance to get a good result. But his time is very disappointing, being more than 1 minute worse than Coppel’s time

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Sicard led the race in one of the earlier stages, but two bad days in the last two stages has made him drop to the 15th place in GC, where he’ll finish. And today he has had another bad day, possibly injured after yesterday's crash, being just under 34 minutes, and way off the best times

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-011.jpg

Very decent TT for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ged.png Roglic in his fight to finish 11th at best, although he is unlikely to do it. He is 1’18 slower than Coppel

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Wellens does a great time, fifth best so far, which gives him big chances of getting that 11th place in GC, as he is only 4 behind Choi (current 11th)

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-013.jpg

Bad TT for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ubs.png Frank, who will lose his GC place even with Roglic, so the Swiss will finish 14th in GC

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-014.jpg

Really bad day for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cpl.png Choi, as he has lost one minute on Wellens, thus losing his place in GC to him. He will finish 12th just by a few seconds over Roglic

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-015.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png De Bie has done the TT he needed to secure his top10 spot in GC. He would have needed a way better TT to climb a place in GC, but he can be happy with what he has

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-016.jpg

Horrible TT from pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Preidler, although it was kinda expected. He was even overtaken by Intxausti in the final kms. His 2’52 time loss puts him level with De Bie, and it will be up to the race jury who will finish 9th in GC

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-017.jpg

Decent time for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ino.png Intxausti, 40 seconds worse than Coppel. But it won’t be enough to reach Dekker in GC, as he needed to gain 30 seconds on the Dutch

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-018.jpg

Third best time for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Dekker! Only behind Coppel and Cornu. This secures him the 7th place

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-019.jpg

Not a good TT for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Tenorio, who can only be sixth, 35 seconds behind Coppel. He’ll finish sixth in GC, right where he started the day

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-020.jpg

Incredible TT for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Lecuisinier! After yesterday’s win in Mount Baldy, the French rider has kept his top form to set the same time as Dekker, but because of miliseconds, behind ahead of the Aegon rider

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-021.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cdb.png Juul-Jensen has lost 2 minutes today, but he had safe his fourth place in GC unless he had lost over 4 minutes, so for him the time he has done was not important

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-022.jpg

Here it comes the U25 winner and 3rd in GC, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png Yates. His time is quite good, losing less than a minute with Coppel

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-023.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ubs.png Amador is currently leading the Points standings, but with Lecuisinier taking third place in the stage, he needs to finish at least 7th to win this secondary classification. And he is able to do it. What’s more, he even improves Lecuisinier time to put himself in the third place of the stage

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-024.jpg

This was a 24-km “glory walk” for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Slagter. With his current gap to Amador he has nothing to worry about losing his lead, and he must have enjoyed every single metre of the race. Anyway, he might have lost too much time - over 2’30 to Coppel- so his lead must have been reduced to only 30 seconds. But it doesn’t matter because he is the winner of 2017 Tour of California

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-025.jpg

Jerome Coppel takes the win in the final stage of California, being this the second win in a row for Festina

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-026.jpg

Tom Slagter finally can celebrate his win, the most important in his career

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-027.jpg

Andrei Amador wins the Points Jersey, which can be considered as a consolation price for losing the GC, but the Costa Rican can’t be unhappy about his race

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-028.jpg

Georg Preidler is the KoM winner, despite being level with Koretzky in points, due his better GC placement, although both riders will give their teams the same amount of points

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-029.jpg

Adam Yates is the best young rider of the race, adding this to his GC podium

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/California/Cali-07-030.jpg

And Compal-Merida wins by Teams.

Really exciting week of racing here in California, which has ended with a surprise winner and several heavily action-packed days
