Giro dell'Emilia
The 9th edition of the Giro dell'Emilia under the MGUCI, and the 98th overall of what is one of the most historic classics on the calendar. Fairly long at 192km and a very tough finishing circuit after a deceptively challenging day in the saddle. For much of the first third it is about using as little energy as possible, but with two passes the riders soon start to feel some pain anyway as we head into San Luca for the finishing circuit, with the main city-centre climb ascended five teams, including the finale. A tough circuit which will see the cream rise to the top. And by cream, I think you know who we mean.

Today is really a line-up of most of the PCT (and one of the CT)'s best puncheurs, and we kinda know what that means: EBH vs TVG ahead of probably Kinoshita leading in the rest. Variations can and will happen but the safest money across any division is probably that these two will make, and likely win, the race. They're so good, they only need three letters each.
Other faces threaten each time: ones to look out for here could be Kwiatkowski and even Sanchez Gil for Netia - the duo both no mugs on longer, tougher climbs and so could surprise here. Good tactics could lead to a big result for one or good results for both - either option very much needed here for the Polish outfit. Also look at Gautier - not his most suited parcours but much like the Netia duo his team is well in the relegation dogfight and need any points they can get their hooves on.
At the happier end of the standings, all of the top 7 teams have a rider who could win here. The aforementioned Hagen and Van Garderen could give big boosts to their squads, but the likes of Barbin, Mohoric and Quevedo will want to surprise here to solidify their team's top 5 spots.
A final mention to Boily. He is a CT rider in a HC event - never usually a nice position but his WCC team have quite clearly made it work. His team are on the cusp of a fantastic title win, and a good result here could maybe even seal the deal. |

We're here. That's about it I guess. Maybe Klemme or Kadri can get us a top-10 here, would be cool if that happened

This could be the most important race of the season for us, last chance for Kwiat to save us from relegation and a Win-Goal. Unfortunately last time we had a circumstance similar to this it didn't pan out so well.
Should be perfect for Kwiat though, thanks Jandal!

As always with EBH, we are going for the win. Will be important for both winning the individual standings and the PCT title, so go Eddy!
Would be surprised if the MO stat does have a signifcant impact here. I certainly don't hope so, but looking forward to a good race nevertheless.

I hope that once again the depth of the team gives good result, Costa should fight for a place in the top 10 while Vogt and Paulinho should be able to stay between 15 and 20.
This will be the last race of this trio and the team needs that they are in good shape to be able to dream of the title

I never know what to expect from JJ. Sometimes he flops, sometimes he overachieves. I'd hope for a top 10 here, but I'm not counting on it. I'd like to see the team doing something over everything else.

Need a miracle. Not actually a miracle, considering Kinoshita is favourite to finish 3rd, but a win would be amazing.

Betancourt was decent in Milano - Torino so I'm slightly more optimistic than usual.

Good riding by Kwiatek, he did everything right and it just didn't work, so I can't blame him, unfortunately that means we've failed all our goals and also Gautier in 7th means we're still living dangerously close to the edge, especially with LLS failing so badly again, Rabottini was okay at least.
Interesting to see Klemme wining, wouldn't have expected that, congrats Selwink and Eden too on a good result!
and of course, thanks for the really well-written report Jandal!

I guess the winning streak had to end at some point. Seems like EBH went in panic mode after the crash and with TVG up front, so probably used a bit too much power there.
At least not a disaster, so still possible to take Alarcon's record of 1478 points. Need a win in Japan now though.
Congrats to Selwink on the win. Certainly a surprise, so I'm guessing you're really thrilled with that result.
Thanks for the report, jandal

A frustrating result this one is. I can't fault TVG for forcing the issue and attacking after the crash. It's the right move to make. It just sucks that EBH is always on top of his game to reel TVG back before the finish. It's either attack and go for the win, then faulter at the finish due to exhaustion. Or, sit back and sprint for 2nd behind EBH. And perhaps even worse than that because the breakaway had a shot to win if TVG didn't press.
Hopefully this result doesn't come back to haunt us.

That's indeed quite a heart breaking outcome for TVG. He made for a thrilling race, would have deserved more.
Stunning result for Klemme though! Great report as well.

Great ride by Omarsson and even a solid finish from Gautier who probably could have done better with better positioning. Overall the result does put us one step closer to CT

Wow, I did not see that one coming We really made today's race with a strong Gavazzi, and Klemme with a surprising win is absolutely fantastic. Kadri and Pasqualon with great performances as well, so this race has been a great success for us!

Well, that was a weird and exciting one. Congrats Selwink! And thanks for the report jandal.
Obviously disappointed Betancourt crashed but that's cycling I guess. Marcos could've made an upset from the break but that was not to be.
