Difficulty: Hard
Evolution of Attributes: 0.3
I assume if you took the time to look into my blog you already know me, but if you don't, let me formally introduce myself. I'm Daniel Martin. I'm 27 years old, Irish, and a cyclist for Team Garmin - Sharp. And this is my new blog. Now I have actually done this in the past sometimes on my very own website, but I feel it is time to reach out to the heart of the cycling community! From now on any time something big happens with me, or I race, or I just want to discuss something with the fans, you can see it here!
As of now, this is where I am told I am skill wise. I didn't make this. In fact it was given to me by a bunch of weird French guys during what they called "Their break" last year on the final days of the Tour. They said to contact them in August or September too if I wanted it re-done because their break lasted all that time. How weird?
Anyway, I'm not really sure what it means. They said it goes from 50 to 85, which doesn't really make such sense to me. Hopefully some of you guys will be able to tell me if you think it's accurate or not.
Since it's only New Year's day, that's all I have for now, but stay tuned because within the next few days I'll be getting my objectives and early season schedule from Jonathan Vaughters. See you then!

GC leaders
Besides me, we have quite the squad here at Garmin.
Ryder Hesjedal is the only GT winner on our team. After the 2012 Giro he has had some setbacks, but I still think he can win another GT. I don't know his race schedule this year but I'll be sure to ask him during our training camp this week.
Danielson will be the leader for the smaller races I reckon. He still has quite a lot left in him after winning several stage races last year.
Talansky Is the up and comer on our team. he's risen through the ranks hear, and this year he gets a full on leader role for the first time. And without a doubt he still has even more potential to come.
Sprinters
Tyler Farrar may not be the sprinter he used to be according to the experts, but it's about time he had a resurgence for our team. And I believe he will.
Steele Von Hoff is also a pretty good sprinter. In the smaller races he places almost every time for us.
Raymond Kreder is a great young kid. An upcoming talent in cycling, and he already has some pop.
Classics and Time Trials
A new add-on to our team this year, and already Sebastian Langeveld has solidified himself as a leader for the cobbled classics. Not only that, but he is also a good time trialist.
Even at only 23 years old, Rohan Dennis is one of the best time trialists in the sport. And he can only get better from here. He is also a decent climber, which helps him in TT heavy stage races.
Vansummeren was the first Garmin rider to win a monument, and is still the only one besides me to do it. Although he hasn't shown much since, he will be key in a successful spring this season.
Another addition to our team this year, last year's Tour Down Under winner has joined Garmin. He is a key puncher for my Ardennes campaign.
The Whole Squad
With help from some buddies, using the scale those random Frenchies gave me, I have mapped out where we have concluded everybody on the team is in skill level for as many disciplines as we could think of. Don't forget all the amazing domestiques and youth riders we have that help the team in so many ways!
That's it! The next blog I make will likely be for my first race, the Tour Down Under!

@Dippofix Hope you enjoy!
@the_hoyle Yes you can. Thanks!
@Faillu Thanks again! That's good to hear.
@TheManxMissile You hear that Jesleyh? I'm waiting!
@Jesleyh Well I'm leaving it like that because he was past that on the potential he has in the DB anyway so it wouldn't heard to speed it up a bit, him being 27 and all. Also I got to credit you with the story name.
@MrUfo87 Thanks!
@SSJ2Luigi Nope slightly modified although like I said I changed no potentials.
@Jesleyh Again Yup and thanks!
@Jakstar22 Hopefully I can, although I can't beat Ryder Hesjedal. luckily, he's in this story too!
@All Thank you so much! It's been about 10 minutes and the thread is already crowded. Did not expect this much support! Hope I don't disappoint!

Schedule and Objectives for 2014
First things first, me and Jonathan Vaughters were able to put together my major objectives for the year. I'm really liking them.
My first major effort this year is Catalunya, which I could be happier to do. After winning last year, it will be exciting to try to defend my title there against the big names!
Next I'll be taking on the spring classics. Liege is going to be the biggest one of course, but I also want to try to see if I can piece together a really great week in general with Amstel and Fleche. Let's not go crazy though, I'm not going for the triple.
Next is the Giro, where we will be going through Ireland. I don't know what my ambitions are for this yet, but I know we have to make an impact! That could be stages, but we will have to talk with the team about whether I am ready to go for GC at a grand tour.
My next and last objective is Lombardia. Thinks was the first major classic I ever really placed at, and it's always fun to just make a big dig at the end of the year for it with whatever energy you have left from the season. Since I have a long hiatus from my last major objective, I hope to be in better form than the fatigued riders.
All in all I like my opportunities this year. I don't fault the lack of objectives in the middle of the year, as that doesn't mean I won't be riding races then. They just aren't my targets.
Some of the trainers have put together a little chart to look at where my potential fitness curves will be with minimal fatigue.
They also have me a tentative schedule for my first half of the season, from now through the Giro. Here's how it looks.
| | Santos Tour Down Under | | | UWT | 1/22/2014 | | | Vuelta a la Region de Murcia | | | 1.1 | 2/23/2014 | | | Tirreno - Adriatico | | | UWT | 3/6/2014 | | | Volta Ciclista a Catalunya | | | UWT | 3/18/2014 | | | De Brabantse Pijl | | | 1.HC | 4/10/2014 | | | Amstel Gold Race | | | UWT | 4/14/2014 | | | La Fleche Wallonne | | | UWT | 4/17/2014 | | | Liege - Bastogne - Liege | | | UWT | 4/21/2014 | | | Tour de Romandie | | | UWT | 4/23/2014 | | | Giro d'Italia | | | UWT | 5/4/2014 |
So that's it for this report. Soon I'll be giving a little presentation as to the team, and then it's off to Australia. I don't have major aspirations or form there. But this early in the season, who does? See you there!
-Dan Martin

Is his potential as bad as it is in Guiness?
