Tour de Pologne - Stage 4
Tamijo
[HC]Tour de Pologne

Stages 4/7 Tarnów - Katowice 231,1 km

From Ustroń the MG caravan has moved about 200 km West to Tarnów.
A fortified wooden settlement is known to have existed in what is today Tarnów in the 9th century, the village evolved into a town and got Town rights in 1330, today a city of about 110.000.

The stage will finish in Katowice, the seat of the city council of Silesian Metropolis with a total population of about 2.2 m, Katowice itself has a population of about 300.000 The settlement dates back to the 12th century

The stage is a little more bumpy than stage 2, but never the less we must expect a mass sprint finish, we have intermediate sprint in Szczurowa after 25.7 km, Olkusz after 118.8 km, Dąbrowa Górnicza after 152.6 km and a cat. 3 climb at Sosnowiec after 212.4 km

173 riders are starting at 4th stage. It is clouded just like yesterday, could very well start to rain again today, we got very little wind.

Media favourites:

The Race

Many rider attempt to establish a breakaway over the first 15 km of the stage, but some of the sprinter team have got their eyes on the sprint in Szczurowa after just 25.7 km.
The pace is extremely high.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage4/01.jpg

With 3 km to the sprint everything is neutralized, Berg Cycles for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel and Podium Ambition for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan keeping a pace of just under 60 Km/h

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage4/02.jpg

With about 500 meters to the sprint 3 riders accelerates, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel takes it in front of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Maksimov and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage4/03.jpg

After that the peloton settles down allowing for today’s breakaway, it is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Rabon, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Pszczolarski, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Ben Youcef, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Contreras, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Boonratanathanakorn and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Pedersen

They build up a lead of a little less than 7’30, but when they get to the sprint in Olkusz about mid stage, it is reduced to 6’12. There is no fight for the points they roll over united focusing on a higher goal.

1 st. Sprint:

It has started to rain.

2nd sprint (again no fight), distance 4’04, 78 km to go
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Boonratanathanakorn
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Ben Youcef
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Pedersen

In the mid-section of the stage, the most active riders in the peloton, leading the chase is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Paulinho, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Park, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Vachon, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Lilovski and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ivanov

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage4/05.jpg

30 km to go, distance 1’55

The peloton has now accelerated, now chasing with about 50 km/h, it is a technical finish with some sharp turns, ups and downs.
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Le Court, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Lilovski, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Nardin, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Balloni, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Irvine and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Paulinho leading the hunt.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage4/06.jpg

The breakaway in closing in on the KoM, distance 1’18, 20 km to the line.
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Pedersen opens up from 1.8 km, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Rabon clued.

As so often opening early was a bad idea, it is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Rabon in front of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Pszczolarski and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Contreras, taking the KoM points.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Pedersen loses so much momentum that he will never get back to the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage4/07.jpg

When the first riders pass under the 10 km banner, it is beginning to look better for the breakaway, the distance is 1’02, the peloton have only been able to take back 16” over the last 10 km.

8.2 km to go, distance 1’00.
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Boonratanathanakorn accelerate.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage4/08.jpg

5 km to go,
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Boonratanathanakorn in front.

At 23” pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Rabon, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Pszczolarski, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Ben Youcef, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Contreras

At 1’15 the peloton with 165 riders.

Seems more and more unlikely that the bunch will win it today, the question is if pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Boonratanathanakorn can hold the others from the breakaway behind him, until the end of the race.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage4/09.jpg

2 km to go

The peloton is just about to catch the poursuivant, but seems they will be sprinting for 2nd, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Boonratanathanakorn has got 1’02 if he stays vertical he should take this stage.

The most active team today pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Podium Ambition have left the front, now it is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Park and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Kreder in front, trying to set up a train for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish, also Berg Cycles has pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png McEvoy trying to make way for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage4/10.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Boonratanathanakorn is probably soaked, but he doesn’t notice as he raises his arms in victory, taking a solo win in Katowice.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage4/11.jpg

In the sprint for 2nd, it is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Kreder for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png McEvoy for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel and a little behind them pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Docker for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan, first to start the sprint.
With 500 meters left, it is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel leading in the right side of the road, at the left side about a meter behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish.

Behind them with 1-2 meters we got pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/min.png Avila, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Serebriakov and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Maksimov on a straight line from left to right.

sorry about the names in the screenshot

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage4/11-1.jpg

300 meters left in the sprint for 2nd.
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel still in front very close to the right side barriers, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish coming closer how lack about 50 cm.

Behind them pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Serebriakov and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Maksimov about a cycle length behind.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/min.png Avila, has lost some momentum falling back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage4/12.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel takes 2nd in front of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan 4th, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Maksimov 5th in front of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Serebriakov pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/min.png Avila and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Yates

Juan Van Heerden finish very far back today as 139, he was down yesterday it is possible that he is injured.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage4/13.jpg

The only major change in the classifications is that pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel now lead in points, with one point down to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan

The good thing was that even though we had horrible weather on most of the stage, not a single rider went down today.
