Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Preview
The first cobbles race of the season. The race will be run this year in a profile featuring seven significantly long cobblestone sections and a couple of smaller sections. The profile should suit a cobbles specialist and riders with other specialties will find it hard to make a mark. The end of the race is flat, which should suit riders with a good sprint stat. Anyone else looking to cause an upset will need to pull out something special.
| Name | CO | SPR | ACC | STA | | Van Avermaet | 82 | 78 | 78 | 78 | | Senechal | 82 | 69 | 74 | 81 | | Stallaert | 79 | 79 | 76 | 79 | | Vanbilsen | 80 | 72 | 71 | 80 | | Teunissen | 81 | 67 | 69 | 79 | | Altur | 80 | 72 | 68 | 77 | | Baugnies | 80 | 65 | 73 | 80 | | Kluge | 77 | 77 | 75 | 77 | | Kamyshev | 82 | 66 | 58 | 79 | | Fenn | 79 | 70 | 69 | 75 | | David | 78 | 70 | 73 | 76 | | Nolf | 80 | 63 | 71 | 75 | | Sibilla | 81 | 66 | 64 | 72 | | Bakari | 81 | 61 | 60 | 77 | | Maes | 79 | 62 | 67 | 76 | | Zepuntke | 81 | 72 | 64 | 58 | | Taubel | 78 | 61 | 64 | 76 | | Jacobs | 78 | 65 | 63 | 69 | | Taillefour | 78 | 54 | 55 | 76 | | Puccio | 78 | 60 | 55 | 70 |
Greg Van Avermaet is the overwhelming favourite for Omloop with the absence of Bewley. Florian Senechal is likely to fancy his chances too, but he will want to avoid a drag race with Van Avermaet at the finish.
Joeri Stallaert looks like the joker among the favourites, as a rider who will want the finish to come down to a bunch sprint. He boasts the best sprinting stats among the top 20.
Riders like Vanbilsen, Teunissen, Altur and Baugnies are sure to be in the mix throughout. They are very similar riders, they oudo one another in certain stats and we shouldn't be surprised to see them try to attack from distance.
Riders like Kamyshev, Bakari, Sibilla and Zepuntke would definitely be looking at taking advantage of their superior cobbles skills to break up the pack in the early cobbles. Their best chances of a win come from finishing in as small a group as possible.
Other than those mentioned, there are more riders who could play a leading role in the race, as seen from the list of favourites above.
| Name | CO | SPR | ACC | STA | | Theuns | 76 | 77 | 76 | 76 | | Boeckmans | 74 | 81 | 83 | 74 | | Breschel | 76 | 76 | 72 | 75 | | Tsatevich | 75 | 75 | 75 | 74 | | Sbaragli | 72 | 77 | 78 | 76 | | Dakteris | 72 | 77 | 77 | 74 | | Kvist | 71 | 77 | 78 | 74 |
The above list shows the riders who aren't the strongest in the cobbles compared to the favourites, but can surely hold their own on the stones. This race does not have overly difficult cobbled sections and may allow these riders the scope to stick with the front group till the end. They will then hope look to use their sprinting and acceleration skills to full effect.
The start list is available in the spoiler below:

Will be interesting to see if one of my riders can fight for a couple points here because anything will be better than nothing.

my hope here is someone on my team attacks and Nolf or someone else snags a top 20. I have modestly higher expectations for rgular PCT cobbled races, but we need to at least secure some points to keep pace.

It seems like 1. Van Avermaet 2. Senechel will be very difficult to avoid. After that there's probably some chances for PCT scoring (which I'd rather we avoided ) like Vanbilsen, Teunissen, Altur, Nolf... Will be interesting to see how they do.
I'll root for Stallaert to be the man to make the final podium place though. <3

Was this WT or WTHC? Just asking to see how many candles I should light
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

PTHC.
GVA and Stallaert as the favorites for me. Hoping for some fine action on the cobbles.

Thanks! We could use a good result here then. The cobbled PTHC races are probably the only ones where we can get a decent amount of points (unless a lucky breakaway at some point), so let's make it count!

Here are Cobbles, let's go Evonik!
Might be the race that we simply have to win all season long. Pressure is on us, being clear favourite and having a bad January. Win is expected, I only can lose
I'm curious to see how strong the support will be. On paper it looks slightly stronger than last season but the depth is weaker.
Staellaert is imo the strongest challenger.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Can't wait to see what a trained Theuns in a hopefully free role paired with Teunissen can do. The field is surprisingly not that strong at all so I can see them both scoring good points.

It's a tough opener for Kulppi but I'm really looking forward to seeing how he will do.

Obviously rooting for Bakari. Greggy for the win is undoubtable, some big points for PCT available (the weakest cobbled PTHC race I assume from Bands choices). And we are not there, fantastic race planning Croatia. I would bet on Vanbilsen and Baugnies to round off the podium.

The absence of Bewley is really hurting this race tbh. GVA better not fail to take the most out of this opportunity.

In order to stay where I need/want to be, I need to score a similar or higher amount of points here as/than Moser - Sygic did in their PTHC race. So preferably two riders in top 20, where one is in top 15.
Tom David could (on a good day) fight for 8-10th, so we hope that will be the case. Anything better than that would be very surprising.

Interesting startlist. Thinking for ourselves, it would of course be best to see the PT team score big, but behind the big favourite (Gregggy), it looks quite open. Will be interesting to see how it pans out.
Hope Stallaert will do good for our Swedish friends!

Well, I guess all I can hope for is that Evonik doesn't get many minor points as well.

It's a bit strange not to be among the favourites in a cobbles race but this is what the Pro Tour and our decisions turned us into.. despite lacking a leader, I hope that one of our riders survives and makes it high up in the rankings. I don't believe but I can hope, right?
