Welcome to Corsica! The race is about to being in Porto Vecchio and today we’ll have a flat stage to start this 3-day race. For the GC riders, today is about to avoid any loses before tomorrow’s TT and the mountain stage in the last day.

From the start, lots of riders are trying to escape, and after 15 km, we have a group of 13 riders which has 1’30 on the bunch, led by Orange and SPAR domestiques, two of the few teams that don’t have a rider in the front

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-1-001.jpg

When the breakaway arrives to the only KoM of the day, no one tries to fight for it, so pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gre.png Skjerping pass in first place, ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Mollema and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png De Vos, so the Norwegian will lead KoM for two days. They still have 1’30 with 50 km left. This is going to be a fierce battle against the bunch

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-1-002.jpg

But the intermediate sprint is fighted, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Grosschartner coming up first to take 6 points/seconds, miles ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ged.png Tanovitchii and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Ait El Abdia. The gap now is only 1 minute, and they still have 35 km left

The pace is so high that only 4 riders of the original BotD remains now in the front, as the rest has been dropped. These 4 riders have a 30 seconds gap to the other 9, and further 35 to the peloton.

We have a crash in the bunch... and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Pinot and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Marquez
are in the ground! Also riders as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ged.png Rolland, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Warbasse, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Samwel and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/min.png Martinez involved. Sadly for Generali, Rolland is out of the race

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-1-005.jpg

12 km left when the remaining riders from the breakaway are caught. Now is time to prepare for the sprint, and we got some notices that pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Lavoine is not in the group, same as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cdb.png Ranneries. Neither of them crashed, but they must have been held up by the crash, and now they are out of the sprint

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-1-006.jpg

Eritel is dominating the sprint preparations, with 5 riders in the first 6 with only 6 km left. This is looking good for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Van Heerden, but SPAR are ready too, having 4 riders right behind Eritel’s train, including pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-1-007.jpg

Less than 4 km to the finish, and now SPAR is on the best place. They have a 4-men train, which surprisingly includes Denifl, to lead-out pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao

1,6 km left, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Nepomyanschiy is starting to lead-out the sprint for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao, who has pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Serebriakov on his wheel. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Van Heerden seems to be making his move in the left side of the photo, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Maksimov on his wheel

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-1-009.jpg

And there goes pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao’s move. 600 metres left and the Spanish sprinter is already overtaking his lead-out men, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Serebriakov and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Stepniak are coming quicker by his left, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Van Heerden, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Maksimov and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cdb.png Appollonio for his right side

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-1-010.jpg

The final 400 metres have a 4% gradient, and the speed of the riders is going down, as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Van Heerden has found his limit and is fading. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao is still first, slightly ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Serebriakov and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Stepniak, who are fighting close to the fences

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-1-011.jpg

Oscar Guerao wins in Porto Vecchio!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-1-012.jpg

The Spaniard has to thank the win to his amazing lead-out in the final kms. Stepniak takes a second place, which is more than what he would have hoped before the stage, as he was only let to sprint after Lavoine was dropped earlier.

Maksimov takes third in the line from Serebriakov, as the Russian blew with 100 metres left to finish only fourth ahead of Santos, who was the strongest in the final 500 metres, but started his sprint from only 15-20th place.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-1-013.jpg

Appollonio, Cisse, Van Heerden, Theuns and Sicard completes the top10 today. More than 3 minutes later, the fallens Pinot and Marquez arrive. They have lost every hope of a good GC here, and will hope to get the stage win in the last stage as a consolation price
