Barbados Cycling Festival - Stage 4
jandal7
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_0.jpg

Welcome to the fourth and final stage of the Barbados Cycling Festival. After two wins on the bounce it's pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ino.png Goss for Indosat in yellow - but with the large bonuses available, it's anybody's for grabs really.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_1.jpg

A breakaway of four today, they are:
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ged.png Skala,
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/frs.png Pozzato,
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Abreu and
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cdb.png Østergaard. The former and latter are 54 seconds down on GC, whilst Pozzato and Abreu are 4th and 5th in the KoM, confusingly on 5 and 4 points. Wiht only 10 up for grabs they can only threaten the podium, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Abelouache having that competition sewn up.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_2.jpg

However neither seem to care as Skala mops up the first KoM. Abreu rolls over for the second, putting him and Pozzato tied second in that competition with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gre.png Würtz. The Generali man also takes both intermediate sprints to lift him to the GC top 15.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_3.jpg

As the peloton begins to go in for the kill, some crosswinds are starting to let little gaps grow to the front 20 riders. Nothing has gone for more than a few seconds, and not intentionally, but watch this space.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_4.jpg

6.5km to go and a small gap for the breakaway (minus Skala). Osstersund going for the solo win now. Meanwhile just 95 riders remain in the peloton, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/frs.png Nych and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Verona, top 20 on GC, not present. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Kraftwerk, as they have all day, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Euskaltel, doing the work here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_5.jpg

3.5km to go, the break is caught and Kraftwerk have pole position. The order in this long line is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Maikin-pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Kreder-pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish-pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Lo Cicero-pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao-pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Maksimov-pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Bouhanni-pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Van Heerden-pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Holloway-pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Vantomme.

Meanwhile more riders out the back including pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Zielinski and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Hamza.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_6.jpg

The pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Fablok duo, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Silvestre, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Kennaugh and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gre.png Rowe all quite out of position here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_7.jpg

A big launch from Kreder has Lo Cicero losing the wheel of Cav!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_8.jpg

A massive gap with 2km left and Lo Cicero is done! Maksimov takes the initiative and goes from range to shut the gap to Cav, who's riding away for the GC win!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_9.jpg

Oh and drama of all kinds here! Cav is done whilst Guardini has caught the front with a powerful acceleration from deep! Maksimov about to take the lead with 1.5km to go, Goss, Guerao and Guardini next!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_10.jpg

Bouhanni, Lo Cicero and Vantomme tired from the position chase now as Mohs and Silvestre come through towards the front! What a turnaround!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_11.jpg

Under the red kite Guerao passes Maksimov and is now pole position for the GC win! Guardini next ahead of Holloway, Cav, Goss and Silvestre!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_12.jpg

Guerao extends his lead and should take the stage, it's down to Goss or Cav to stop him winning the GC! Holloway finds the outside line and is in second ahead of Silvestre.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_13.jpg

The Manx Missile recovers well from his leadout fail - perhaps it was a tactical move! He is moving past Silvestre and Holloway, and could take the GC win!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_14.jpg

Cool as you like, Guerao takes a fantastic stage win with plenty of time to celebrate and thank the team. Cav will take second, and possibly the GC victory. Hold tight.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_15.jpg

Holloway pips Silvestre for the final podium spot - a better stage after a thoroughly dissapointing week for both.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_16.jpg

Mohs for fifth, Guardini sixth - better co-ordination is certainly needed here, the clash of egos too big perhaps? Goss can only make seventh, and could lose his GC lead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_17.jpg

Kennaugh, Rowe and Maksimov round out the top 10 of one of the strangest sprints I've seen all year.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_18.jpg

A horrible day for Van Heerden, Vantomme, Lo Cicero and Bouhanni. For god's sake, even Isostar beat them today. And just out of picture I suspect the wind may have seen a split in the bunch!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Barbados/Barbadosj/bcf4_19.jpg

If you've been doing the maths at home this will come as no shock, but it's Mark Cavendiish who takes the GC win by just two seconds to Guerao and three to Matt Goss! Chapeau to the consistent Manxman, but either of the trio would have been desrving winners here.

Some GC news: the top 23 riders here (Mansilla being the last one in) have been awarded a 1'22 gap to the next group. Vanoverschelde, Abelouache and Manninen all lose time unfortunately.
