Corsica International - Stage 2
Aquarius97
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-000.jpg

Time for a short timetrial. We have here most of the best TTers of the division ready to score a few valuable points for their teams, and also the riders who will fight for the GC win tomorrow in Col d’Ospedale would like to have a little advantage before that stage.

The Italian champion, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Balloni, is the second to start, and the first of the favourites. He crashed yesterday and end up clearly injured, but with a short TT, he might overcome that deficit to do a good result. He has done a time of 11 minutes

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-001.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Bodnar is the one to beat Balloni’s time, as the Pole was 13 seconds faster

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-002.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ged.png Boaro can’t beat Bodnar’s time. He’s been 8 seconds worse than the Fablok rider

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-003.jpg

Relative surprise as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Jorge Abreu moves into the lead, just by 1 second. Great time for the Venezuelan champion

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-004.jpg

Algerian champion, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Hamza, can’t do better than third provisional, six seconds worse than Abreu

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-005.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cdb.png Contador is the first GC favourite to start - not counting Pinot or Marquez - although his time is not bad, only 24 seconds worse than Abreu

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-006.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gre.png Dempster is one of the favourites for the win today, and he proves that by setting the fastest time so far, although he is only 1 second faster than Abreu

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ged.png Viviani is Generali biggest hope for today, but he can’t improve Zempster’s time. He is just second, one second worse

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-008.jpg

But the screen time will change with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cdb.png Steensen arrival. The Danish rider has destroyed everyone else times, putting himself with a 8 second lead to Dempster

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-009.jpg

We have now pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Paillot in the race. He is one of the very top favourites for the win, but he can only be second, 5 seconds slower than Steensen

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mop.png Van Winden can’t even make it to the provisional podium, as he loses 9 seconds on the Carlsberg rider

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-011.jpg

But then it comes pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Cornu, right after Van Winden... and neither he can’t improve Steensen’s time. He’s only 3 seconds slower but still has to settle for second for now

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-012.jpg

Busy time for the cameraman, as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Fraile is now on course, although his time is far from being brilliant, as he loses almost 20 seconds to the leader

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-013.jpg

Maybe the best TTer between the GC riders, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/iso.png Brajkovic sets a rather disappointing time, 23 seconds slower than Steensen

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-014.jpg

Another disappointment, this time with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Viennet, after the French has been 25 seconds off the time

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-015.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Duarte sets a decent time, being 3 seconds faster than Brajkovic

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-016.jpg

Horrible day for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/min.png Úran, as he would have hoped to gain big time on other climbers, and is likely to end up losing it to almost everyone. 26 seconds worse than Steensen

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-017.jpg

Uran can always say that pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Denifl was way worse than him, as the Austrian have lost 18 seconds on the Colombian, and 44 on Steensen

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-018.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/iso.png Brändle is the first rider in a while to break into the top10, being 11 seconds worse than Steensen

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-019.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/frs.png Henao Montoya loses 39 seconds to Steensen, but only 13 to Uran. Not a bad day for the Colombian

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-020.jpg

Really disappointing perfomance from pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ino.png Intxausti, as he can only improve Henao’s time by 4 seconds

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-021.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Sicard is the last rider involved in the GC to start his race, and his time is similar to Uran’s; 29 seconds lost to Steensen, who can feel safe about his win

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-022.jpg

Despite being the race leader, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao had no chance to retain it, and he went for a easy ride, as tomorrow he needs to be fresh to reach the finish in order to score a few points from the Points standings. He would end up third to last today

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-023.jpg

Andre Steensen takes the win today and obviously the race lead with it. Clearly an unexpected winner. Behind him, pretty much the pre-race favourites, with Cornu, Paillot, Dempster, Viviani and Van Winden in the top6.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Corsica/CorInt-2-024.jpg

In the GC fight, Kiserlovski ends up as the biggest winner of the day. The wind definitely played a part in the outcome of the day, as the last riders to start were affected by this
