Tour de Pologne - Stage 7
Tamijo
[HC]Tour de Pologne

Stages 7/7 Kraków - Kraków 132,0 km

From Bukowina Tatrzanska the tour have moved about 110 km straight north to Kraków, the 2nd largest city in Poland, the first known settlement dates back to the 4th century, but archaeological evidence proves that people lived here back in early stone age. Today a city with a metropolitan population about 1.7 m.

The final stage of tour de Pologne will start and finish in Kraków, with intermediate sprints in Wieliczka after 23,4 km, a cat 3 KoM at Kraków Rynek after 26,9 km, and another intermediate sprints again in Wieliczka after 106.3 km

172 riders are starting at 7th stage. It's pouring down with rain

The Race

Immediately pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gre.png Vink opens the stage with an impressive acceleration.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/01.jpg

Many other riders attack and it ends up in a 9 rider breakaway, as far as I remember the largest we have seen in this race.

The riders are , pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gre.png Vink, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vma.png Stöhr. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Omarsson, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/min.png Milan, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Hivert, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mol.png Michely, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Craven, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cdb.png Schumacher, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ino.png Khalilikhosroshani.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/02.jpg

In the early part of the stage it is mainly pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Lilovski, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Le Court
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Paulinho pulling the peloton forward, pace about 40 km/h.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/03.jpg

The breakaway roll over the first sprint without paying any attention to it.
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mol.png Michely
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Hivert
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ino.png Khalilikhosroshani

The weather is awful and the unavoidable happens, a large crash.
Rider involved are, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gre.png Watson, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vma.png Fuglsang, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ged.png Tanovitchii, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Baz, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cdb.png Mendes, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gre.png Skjerping, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/iso.png Bazhkou, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png De Souza, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vma.png Zaraliev, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Samwel, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gre.png Lunke and unluckypcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Sagan who won't be able to cross the line in Kraków

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/04.jpg

The KoM points have no interest for the breakaway either, they just keep the pace only a stage win on their minds.
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ino.png Khalilikhosroshani
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/min.png Milan
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gre.png Vink

The only slightly interesting development over the next period is that Kraftwerk in the form of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Vachon have joined the rider in the front of the peloton.

With 95 km to go this distance max out at about 4’30”

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/05.jpg

Fast forward - 40 km to go, distance is reduced to 1’54”
The same teams is driving the peloton for but with more riders, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Le Court, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Lilovski, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Docker, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Paulinho, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Park and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Vachon sharing most of the workload. Peloton speed 45-47 km/h

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/06.jpg

Over the next 30 km the pace is increasing little by little, while the distance is slowly shrinking. The sprinters is moving forward trying to position themself without getting to much wind on the nose. 12 km to go for the peloton the pace is 61 km/hour. distance 1’36.

Pulling the train we see in this order, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Balloni and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Nardin. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Flügel, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Irvine.

Amongst the top sprinters pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel sitting in 12 position at the right side, behind teammate pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png McEvoy, behind him pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Lavoine, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Maksimov and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/frs.png Modolo

At the right side pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ino.png Moser in 17 position, behind him pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish trying to move forward to connect with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Kreder.

In the picture we also see pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/iso.png Mansilla and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/min.png Manarelli a few positions behind Cavendish.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/07.jpg

5.0 km to the finish, still no attacks between the 9 rider in front, distance 39”
26 rider left in the group of sprinters. Kraftwerk now doing most of the pursuit.
The top sprinter sitting first is now pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Lavoine at the left side in 7th position. At his rear left pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan, and right behind Lavoine pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Maksimov, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ino.png Moser, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/frs.png Modolo and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/iso.png Mansilla in that order.

At the right side behind race leader pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Froome, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel on wheel.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Serebriakov is disconnected but close, trying to make contact.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/min.png Manarelli struckling even further back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/08.jpg

At the same time pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Hivert attacks in the front group, he get a good gap at first, but pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/min.png Milan accelerate and comes up to his rear wheel. The duo has 51” with 2 km to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/09.jpg

In the sprinter group pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Park has no more to give in front and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Kreder opens the sprint for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish.

Right behind them pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Yates, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Docker with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Serebriakov has improved remarkebly now squeezed himself in between pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel and his leadout.

All the previous mentioned sprinters are in the group, except pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/min.png Manarelli and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Lavoine whom both now seem to be out of it, behind the group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/10.jpg

Under the red kite it is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Kreder with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish looking very good, looks like they will easily catch pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Hivert and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/min.png Milan at that speed.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Serebriakov looking good passing pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png McEvoy with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel

Also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ino.png Moser accelerating nicely.

Not to far behind them pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Yates is fast, but pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan is not directly connected, will be costly to close the gap. Everyone else is behind Ewan seems almost impossible that anyone could close the distance up to Cavendish from there.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/11.jpg

600 meters left.
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Kreder has caught what is left of the breakaway.

It is over for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png McEvoy but pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel is fast, now right behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Serebriakov, about 2 meters behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ino.png Moser have lost momentum now back in the group with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Maksimov, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/frs.png Modolo, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/iso.png Mansilla, more and more unlikely that any of those can take this stage.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/12.jpg

Now that is this, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel is hammering inside pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish and then outside pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Kreder, with a pace that makes the others look like that are taking a break.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/13.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel wins in Kraków, creating gap enough over the last 400 meters, to celebrate before he crosses the line.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/14.jpg

To some surprise it is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Kreder 2nd, teammate and stage favourite pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/kmm.png Cavendish have to settle with 4th, as also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Serebriakov beats him to the line.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/15.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Maksimov fastest in the next group for 5th, in front of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png McEvoy

Best placed form the break pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Hivert 8th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/HC/Pologne/Stage7/16.jpg

As expected the stage had no impact at the top of the CG. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Chris Froome wins Tour de Pologne in front of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ged.png Diego Ulissi and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/new.png Tejay Van Garderen.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ged.png Ulissi lost the points classification to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bgc.png Kupfernagel having a brilliant day in Kraków.

Already secured yester pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Venter: King of the hills.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Yates best amongst the young riders and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mol.png MOL-OMV Petrom won the team clasification
