Preview:
The Bookmakers has Monsalve as top favorite, due to his better overall skills, clearly the strongest rider in this race.
Quevedo though has the best punch and acceleration, just as likely to win this race.
Just below the above we got Becerra, heading the strongest team, but honestly need a good day to win this.
Other outsiders Salinas, Alarcon and Abreu but they need some sort of miracle to win the national jersey.
The Race:
Just a quick look at what happened from the morning:
We got a very early crash of 12 riders, not important though. Right up to the top of the 2nd climb mid stage no successful attacks, then 4 riders got away with 42 km left. Isostar – Adriatic took responsibility and kept in under control, it was over under the 10 km banner.
Monsalve accelerates at the beginning of the final climb splitting the peloton, 8 riders form the favorite group besides Monsalve it is. Quevedo, Becerra, Briceno, Alarcon, Abreu, Salinas and Ochoa Quintero.
3,7 km to go.
2 km to go, and nothing has happened in the first group, Monsalve still setting a high constant pressure but everyone hangs in.
A few 100 meters more and Becerra attacks, now only Quevedo and Monsalve able to follow the acceleration.
500 meters left Becerra opens the sprint from pole position, Quevedo close on the inside left, while Monsalve in 3rd is a meter or so behind.
Over the next 300 meter Quevedo gets up side by side with Becerra, Monsalve still just at wheel.
But it was all tactics, over the last 200 meters, while the others start to fade a little Monsalve is a lot faster and pass them with more than a cycle length before crossing the line as new Venezuelan National Champion.
Welcome back to the Venezuelan National Championship, now with the ITT. 10 riders are ready to compete.

Abreu a clear favorite to take the Championship
Monsalve, Salinas, Becerra the only riders with a realistic shot to challenge Abreu, but they will need exceptional good legs.
The Race:
First on the route today was Richard Ochoa Quintero, 1st sector 19’25, 2nd sector 36’59, 3rd sector 55’40, full time 1h11’24
That is a fine time from him.
Briceno next, lost 16” at first sector, 31” at 2nd , coming home in 1h12’23 a total loss of 59”
Canelon approaching the finish, he had a tough day in the sun, lost 3’27” to Ochoa Quintero
Quevedo passing the first sector precisely the same time as Ochoa Quintero, but passing 2nd sector he has lost 8”, at 3rd sector it is 10”, have to finish fast to grab a hold of the seat.
No - Quevedo 2nd at +10, he has passed Alarcon on the rute, a bad day for him +1’58
Rujano also lost 20” to Ochoa Quintero already at 1st sector and it gets worse, almost a minute at 2nd, ending with a total loss of 1’30” – no doubt Ochoa Quintero was fast today.
Now we see the first of the semi favorites Becerra, and no surprise he cuts 7” of the 1st sector time. More surprisingly he can’t keep it up, passing 2nd sector 5” behind Ochoa Quintero. 3rd sector it is 2” still behind but this will get close.
He makes it - new best 1h12’22, 2” faster.
Salinas is fast, new best 1st sector 22” faster than Becerra, 2nd sector 36” faster than Ochoa Quintero, 3rd sector 1’01” and he comes in with new best 1h10’03 1’19” faster than Becerra.
Monsalve not having the best start, he is 34” behind at first sector, 1’09” at 2nd, 1’43” at third, overtaken by Jorge Abreu on the route Monsalve comes in 6th.
Winning the Road Race yesterday must have taken all he had.
Abreu does what we would expect, setting new best in every sector, 1st 18’48”, 2nd 36’10, 3rd 54’15, winning the race with 1h09’34” 29” faster than Salinas.
