A race for the hill specialists, to be decided on stages 2 and 3 which pose different kinds of challenges to the riders. Anybody looking to upset the apple-cart will need to use the flats to cause havoc in the peloton and cause echelons. That looks unlikely though.
| Name | HIL | STA | RES | REC | ACC | | Hagen | 85 | 81 | 74 | 72 | 79 | | Ponzi | 84 | 77 | 72 | 76 | 80 | | Bobridge | 83 | 74 | 74 | 69 | 80 | | Skujins | 83 | 80 | 77 | 73 | 76 | | Van Stayen | 79 | 76 | 71 | 80 | 78 | | Ginanni | 83 | 78 | 78 | 76 | 74 | | Trofimov | 82 | 79 | 77 | 77 | 75 | | Gastauer | 82 | 78 | 70 | 68 | 76 | | Froome | 82 | 77 | 73 | 72 | 75 |
Any race Hagen starts in the hills, is one where he is the favourite. No difference here as he is the top dog among the contenders.
Simone Ponzi will be the Norwegian's biggest competitor. Coming off a long break after a successful Spring classics campaign, the Hugo Boss rider will be hoping to keep his team's strong showing this season going.
Not much separates the abilities of Skuijns and Bobridge, but they have had hugely varied luck this season. While Skuijns has enjoyed success in earlier races, Bobridge has fallen foul to his team's general bad luck on more than one occasion, and underwhelmed in his outings. Maybe this is the race to change his fortunes.
Evonik's two-pronged strategy for most of the hilly races this season continues with the presence of Van Staeyen in this race. Something which the table above does not show is the Belgian's sprinting ability which might allow him to pick up vital bonification seconds in the flat stages and improve positions if this turns into a close race.
Ginanni is another rider who had a successful Ardennes campaign, but his form in general has been patchy. The occasional flashes of brilliance have been interspersed with races of under-performance. It remains to be seen which Ginanni will show up here.
Trofimov, Gastauer and Froome are the others who could be in with a shot of winning this race. All three of them are powerful punchers capable of challenging the riders mentioned before, but their energy stats could prove to be their limitation.
| Name | HIL | STA | RES | REC | ACC | | Flügel | 81 | 79 | 67 | 69 | 74 | | Vakoc | 80 | 75 | 71 | 67 | 74 | | Bilbao | 79 | 77 | 71 | 71 | 75 | | Waeytens | 79 | 72 | 70 | 68 | 73 | | Beltran | 79 | 73 | 72 | 72 | 76 | | Pichon | 79 | 74 | 76 | 72 | 76 | | Izagirre | 79 | 73 | 72 | 69 | 63 |
A combination of PCT leading punchers and sub-top PT punchers make up the outsiders list for this race. A lot of points are available for PCT teams in PTHC races, and those riders especially will be hoping for a better than expected result in this race.
| Name | FLA | SPR | ACC | | Degenkolb | 76 | 84 | 81 | | Guarnieri | 76 | 82 | 81 | | Kristoff | 75 | 83 | 79 | | Van Stayen | 76 | 83 | 78 | | Howard | 76 | 82 | 79 | | Avelino | 71 | 83 | 78 | | Guillén | 67 | 81 | 82 | | Saber | 75 | 81 | 79 | | Vanderbiest | 74 | 82 | 77 | | Ewan | 73 | 81 | 79 | | Van der Lijke | 73 | 80 | 79 | | Bouhanni | 74 | 80 | 77 | | Ulanowski | 73 | 80 | 77 |
With three stages on offer, the sprinter list is quite strong. Degenkolb is the strongest sprinter in the race, and his recent form has taken an uptick after being down in the first few months of the season. Guarnieri and Kristoff would be looking to pick up important points for Strava and Aker, who don't have a top leader for the hills. Van Staeyen is the only sprinter who will be able to compete for the GC.
The other sprinters who would be hoping for a stage win is mentioned in the table above.

Had hoped for a less packed sprinter field.
But who cares? It's Bobridge who matters. One of a few key races for us. I begged Vanspeybrouck to not let me down in East Midlands. But he did. So what to say here? Please disappoint me, Jack. The season can hardly become any worse.

No Bakelants here Our team is ready and set to fight for the white jersey here, which is our major goal with Matej Mohoric! Degenkolb a real surprise on the startlist, but I can't see past him for at least 2 stages. Evonik sending their big guns really here.

No Bakelants?
I figured this would be the race that dropped us back into the relegation zone, now I'm not so sure - fingers crossed... |

It seems to be all about the PT here, maybe we can somehow score some points. Waeytens with a decent GC, Pelucchi with another good sprint result and our biggest shot obviously a breakaway.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Compared to Pais Vasco in the same band, we don't have to face Bakelants, Sagan and TvG here. Good news for us. Tough field still, so we'll be aiming for the podium with EBH. Terrific season so far, hopefully it can continue here.
Ponzi and Van Staeyen with bonus seconds probably the biggest threat. At the same I fear that only the third stage will be selective, so could be a small «daily form lottery» as well.
After some shitty races, fingers crossed for Watson to repeat his U25 win from Pais Vasco.
Key race for us and especially EBH and his chase for 1500 points, so looking forward to seeing it.

Going to struggle for points in the Hills and the Sprints here but hopefully we can get something because we need it!

It's another XP race for us! Gonna get zero points, but that's expected. If we're even slightly visible it'll be a massive success.

Oh yeah, i was looking forward to this race for quite some time. I tried to split up Skujins and Van Stayen but this profile looked too sweet to not let both race here. On paper my team looks super strong for this one. Skujins as one of the GC favourites with Van Stayen as second GC option and Smirnovs & Siskevicius as support while Van Stayen is the top favourite on stage 4 and has solid chances on a podium/victory on stage 1+2+5.
Nowthe question is how the AI will handle it. Everything from another fantastic race to completely misshandling the dual leadership is possible. Bring it on!
Also go Guarnieri!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Izagirre´s ACC is 63, not 60. Hopefully it´s only typing, not DB, error.
Let´s hope Dege is going to perform better than in most previous races.
Good luck to all who are desperately fighting for each point.

The acceleration column is wrong for the outsiders table. I'll fix it before posting the first stage. Sorry about that!

The incorrect ACC values have been fixed. I had picked up SPR values instead for certain riders.

Time to collect those much-needed points, but more importantly let's have a race without our leader crashing for a change...

The nice thing about my PTHC races this year is that it has given Gastauer more to do. He has had a good season, so hopefully that can continue here.

Meh, the usual PCM AI where lesser sprinters don't even bother to aim for a top 10.
Good win for Iberia, they deserve that.
