Count me in! I love the idea and I'd be pleased to contribute. I'm currently downloading the DB, but with only one seeder, that'll take some time... But then, I'd really like to do whatever report is up next Wink

Do you have any notions on how the reports should be? Like, a mandatory difficulty, or a specific style of writing?
I'm not sure about the one seeder, that's just what the download page (kickass torrent) says. I'm using uTorrent, the speed is decent at the moment.

Hard is perfect. If no one else volunteers first, I would start the reporting tomorrow, I think.
I would be in for some reports as well later, just need to download first.

But actually I wouldn`t simulate 3/6 stages.
Yeah, I figured that by now. I have 28% after 36 minutes now, I think that's fine. Just in the first two minutes, I had a download speed of less than 100KB, so I was worried at first.

And thanks, very flattering Wink Yes, I'm definetely in. The selection is fine, Vanmarcke-Pozzato-Freire seems like a perfect train for the uphill sprints. Also, I agree wit roturn that it would be nice to report all 6 stages. But it's up to you after all. I understand that the chances for a stage win are rather small on the purely flat stages. So if you want this to continue a bit faster, than I can do only the 1st, 3rd and 5th, as you suggested.
I would love to do A report but I can't download the db. Not enough Internet. Is there anyway you can give me the kit and I can report with the db I have now?

I'll like to do some 1 day races or a short stage race if that's ok? Wouldn't mind doing some the early season french/spanish races.
I don't mind doing Haut Var. Hiet and Almeria gives us three more race report?.
Plan me in after the 17th. Until then I have no time. Paris Nice or Tirreno would be a possibility then.
Hi if I could I would do Tour de San Luis and maybe later Milano-Sanremo Smile
Edited by JuanMotr on 09-09-2012 12:03
Just a little update: I'm still planning the season, so expect the first race report either later tonight or tomorrow.

@JuanMotr: If Oleg accepts, you should have a nice squad for San Luis Wink

Unfortunately, that isn't possible, why don't you go to a nearby wifi spot and download it there, while enjoying a Coffee and/or a Burger and/or a Book Pfft?[/quote]

I can try that. Is the DB for PCM 11 or 12. If it is for 12 then we have another problem. I have PCM 11 and not sure when I am getting PCM 12.

The Race

The Santos Tour Down Under is one of the younger races on the calendar of the UCI World Tour. Having been held firstly in 1999, it was a sprinter's race for the major part of its existence. But more recently, the route also allowed puncheurs to shine and gain enough time to win the ochre jersey. The route of this year gives reason to expect the same:

For the GC, the stages two and five should be decisive. The puncheurs need to use those opportunities to make up some time on the sprinters, who should be able to collect bonus seconds in the expected mass sprints on the other stages.

Sponsor Goal: Stage Win

Our sponsor wants us to win a stage in Australia and we've sent a strong team to fulfill this goal. While we don't expect Oscar Freire to keep up with fast men like André Greipel, John Degenkolb or Alessandro Petacchi on the flat stages, we hope that the sprint train Vanmarcke - Pozzato - Freire will give us a realistic chance for a win on the uphill finishes of the stages two and five.
It is all dropping in to place now and looking Good Smile
i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Flags/au.gif Santos Tour Down Under - Stage 1

The first stage is mostly flat and consequentally, a sprint finish is expected. Yet, we will surely see a breakaway giving it a try and fighting for the sprint and mountain points.

T.CS Bank - OJSC Rosneft

Our riders aren't too good in shape yet, and none of them is a top-notch sprinter. Our goal for today is to get a rider into the break and then maybe snatch a Top 10 in the final sprint.

The 126 riders are lining up for the first major race of 2013. Let the season begin!
The race hasn't really begun and the first attack is already being launched by Geoffrey Soupe (FDJ).
A couple of riders try to follow him …
… but the pace in the peloton rose and the escapees were brought to an early end.
Maurizio Da Dalto is the next one trying his luck and this time, Gatis Smukulis counters, firstly showing off the colours of T.CS Bank!
Lotto isn't happy with that break and doesn't let them go further than 40 seconds.
But Smukulis doesn't give up so easily, he attacks from the break...
And really: The break splits and the remaining three riders manage to get away. Along with Alan Pérez (Euskaltel) and Nikolas Maes (Omega), Smukulis increases the advance.
The pack is riding a solid pace but the advance still reaches 4 minutes.
Nikolas Maes is clearly the fastest on the first intermediate sprint. Yet he won't be celebrating since the pack has picked up the pace and the advance is decreasing. Only 5'30 left.
Maes might have been the fastest on the flat, but the first wearer of the mountain jersey is Latvian!
While Maes wins the second sprint as well, the peloton is being led by RadioShack, Lotto and Saxo Bank. With only 3 minutes left, it doesn't look good for the escapees.
As they're nearing the last 20 kms, the pack can already see the escapees. Not long and they'll get caught.
The merger has taken place, the sprint preperations are in full play...
Three trains are prevalent in the sprint. On the left, Lotto brings Greipel in a perfect position, Freire and Howard are on his wheel. On their right, Saxo Bank leads out Petacchi, who is followed by Filippo Pozzato. And close to the barrier, Garmin tries to catch up for Tyler Farrar.
Worst case szenario for Oscar Freire! Dehaes goes to the front and instead of being in the perfect position, the Spaniard gets blocked by Vicente Reynes!
Entering the last kilometer, Greipel is still waiting to make his move, Leigh Howard is taking over the lead!
But the German has the perfect timing! While Howard falls back, he wins in front of Robbie McEwen (Sky) and Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ). For T.CS Bank, Filippo Pozzato finishes best on place 11, Freire lost too much speed and can't do better than 16th. 0

Team Résumé

Our feelings towards today's stage are a bit ambivalent. Oscar was very disappointed about how the sprint final planned out. He had the perfect wheel and if he hadn't got blocked, he might have been able to get a Top 5.

But on the other hand, we're very happy with Gatis' performance today. Having the mountain jersey on our team for the next stage is great! Plus, the bonus seconds toss him into 5th overall. And Filippo's 11th in a flat stage is promising for the hilly stages.

So all in all, I'd say we look ahead optimistically.
This sounds like a really interesting story! Smile
If it wasn't for Smukulis, it would have been a bad day for Rosneft.
Great report Cunego Wink
Thanks!! I really looking forward to San Luis Smile

Nice ride by Smukulis and great report I always loved your report style especially in Dominik Nerz story Wink

McEwen on Team Sky? That disgusts me...

Great report by the way Grin
