Tour of America - Stage 11
roturn
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PCT/ToA/mg2017_toa_11_PCM0089.jpg

Halftime in the Tour of America. And we have a flat stage with some uphill sections in the final part.

Hence in combination a day for the sprinters or the breakaway. Time will tell.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PCT/ToA/mg2017_toa_11_PCM0091.jpg

Unnoticed from the pics the first sprint actually went to the sprinters still as it was just in the moment the first breakaway attempt was caught.
Vanoverschelde, Nizzolo, Croket the order there.

Afterwards a group of 5 were allowed to go and actually most are the same that had been in attempt no.1

UBS and Aeropostal chasing behind.

Jump to the Cat.2.
Vanthourenhout takes the 10pts ahead of Santambrogio and Rosas. No big changes though. He is up to 28 points which is still a bit from 46 of Handley and shared 42 for Schelling and Barguil.

But already visible that the GC riders aren`t far behind the lead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PCT/ToA/mg2017_toa_11_PCM0101.jpg

Vanthourenhough and Santambrogio seem to be the fastest. On the uphill section and the first passing through the finish, these two have a 70s gap to Rosas.

Another 50s later the peloton, which just caught the other two.

13km left and hence advantage breakaway duo.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PCT/ToA/mg2017_toa_11_PCM0103.jpg

Aeropostal now lining up with 4 riders going quite fast. Rosas is in their view but the gap is still at almost 2min with 12,5km to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PCT/ToA/mg2017_toa_11_PCM0106.jpg

But they did really well and the duo clearly is exhausted as well.
With a bit over 3km to go the duo is almost caught. Good job by the Aeropostal guys, which now basically form the only sprint train as the pace was too high for others to find themselves.
Though not the strongest for Granjel Cabrera with only Dall'Antonio ahead of him as Atapuma barely might count as great leadout.

2,3km and as expected Atapuma`s leadout is not the fastest one. Plus he was in the wind for some time now. At least he caught the duo now.

But some sprinters decide to go early surprising the other sprinters.

Those are pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gnz.png Von Hoff and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Haddi.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PCT/ToA/mg2017_toa_11_PCM0119.jpg

Dall'Antonia then took over and behind only Granjel Cabrera, Bertilsson and Aregger able to follow with Afewerki coming from further behind and being up to them as well.

All others with a gap then.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PCT/ToA/mg2017_toa_11_PCM0124.jpg

Von Hoff / Haddi might have miscalculated the uphill sprint today. It`s just 1-2% but being too early out there isn`t ideal.

Under the Flamme Rouge their advantage is almost gone.

Bertilsson and Aregger having the perfect position now in the slipstream while Granjel Cabrera goes around his leadout now being next to Afewerki, who had a longer sprint already though.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PCT/ToA/mg2017_toa_11_PCM0126.jpg

The 3 riders with a long sprint now struggle. Haddi, Von Hoff as also Afewerki.

It`s Granjel Cabrera vs Bertilsson in front now with Aregger being a tiny bit behind in between.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PCT/ToA/mg2017_toa_11_PCM0128.jpg

Close call. Basically head to head between those two. Aregger would need to find some more soon, otherwise will have to settle with 3rd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PCT/ToA/mg2017_toa_11_PCM0130.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PCT/ToA/mg2017_toa_11_PCM0131.jpg

Still close until the finish. But it`s the Carlsberg sprinter and the team really impresses this year in the sprint finishes. Even without Appollonio they take home a sprint win.
Big win for Bertilsson. Maybe his first ever? And beating Granjel Cabrera in basically HIS race shows the quality of todays performance.

Aregger also with a nice 3rd today. His consistency is impressive and he usually has the right wheel and hence he is well deserved 2nd in the point ranking just 14 points down on Granjel Cabrera and 11 ahead of Von Hoff and a bit more to the climbers.

Afewerki in the end 4th. He shows some good sprints but often lacks the positioning here and today yet again without team support.
Haddi and Von Hoff next. Still okay results and it might have been a good attempt on another day.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PCT/ToA/mg2017_toa_11_PCM0132.jpg

Then some riders got dropped late with Aeropostal firing. Biggest name clearly pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/red.png Meyer, who apparently didn`t handle the climb well and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/red.png Krasnoperov.
Both lose 3'01.
