Welcome to the Czech Republic! The Crème de la crème of the PT time trialists have come here to win the four-day Czech stage race, and even though the 60 km time trial will be decisive, everyone obviously wants to take a good start in the 5 km prologue.
Oliveira one of the first to start, setting the aim time of 5’30”.
Zakarin and Viennet unable to improve the Generali rider’s time, but Wirtgen is! Three seconds faster means the Vesuvio rider has the new best time with 5’27”.
National time trial champions Paillot and Vlatos are both 13” slower than the Vesuvio rider and won’t be scoring points today.
Malori does well to finish on a provisonal second place at two seconds of the best time, whereas Sergent is currently sixth at seven seconds.
Oliveira now in fifth, six seconds slower than Wirtgen. Sütterlin coming in around the fifteenth place currently, he’s looking forward to the longer time trial.
Powless with a strong performance and currently on the podium, as he is now third at three seconds of the best time.
Tanfield, Yatsevich and Scotson only lose a handful of seconds and are currently in the top-10, but it’s prologue specialist Stoltz who gets onto the podium now, with a third place at three seconds of the best time.
Specialist Schomber loses eight seconds and won’t be scoring today. Meanwhile another Generali rider does well, as Kung finishes fifth at three seconds.
Spanish time trial champion Fraile taking over that fifth place almost immediately though. As there is around 1/3rd of the rider field left to start, Tinkoff’s Goldstein improves the best time by one second! 5’26” now the time to beat! Kämna currently surprising with a strong time in the top-8 so far, only losing three seconds.
Okay performance by Dennis, as he is only one second slower than the best time. Currently that delivers him a third place.
His fellow countrymate Durbridge has exactly the same time, but gets put third instead of the Generali rider.
Wow, the wind has changed a bit and it immediately becomes clear in the results! Belevics, Dal Col and Jungels all in the top-8 with 50 riders to come!
Youngster Erdenebat going for white! He’s currently fifth in GC, at one second of Tinkoff’s Goldstein.
Time for the biggest guns! Andersen can’t take the first spot though! He finishes in the same amount of time as leader Goldstein, but seems to be a fraction of a second too slow and gets put on the third place so far!
But Chavanne does take the first spot as the next rider coming in! He clearly took back a lost second or two in the final km as he then sprinted until the finish line! His time is 5’26”, there are currently nine other riders at a second or less behind him!
Leung is on another level though! With a time of 5’20” he destroys the rest of the field!
Ganna does okay to finish fifth at six seconds.
Würtz has come here to challenge Phinney, and he starts off the tour by losing fourteen seconds to the best time. Taaramäe around the same time.
Kenyan champion Kemboi going for the green jersey here. For now he is fifth at six seconds of Leung’s time. Two riders to come.
Not a win, but a first little victory for world time trial champion Phinney over his rivals. He finishes second at four seconds of Leung.
Coquard the last rider to come in, but he loses sixteen seconds and takes a false start in Praha – Karlovy Vary – Praha. See you again tomorrow!
