Hola, welcome to the Desigual cycling headquarters. The 2020 season marks the third year of the Spanish outfitter being a main sponsor for a Man-Game team.

Desigual's reversed logo remains the same for this season to help standout from the crowd, but we are also re-incorporating some of the vibrant colors Desigual is known for to bring some much needed life back into the program.

Veteran manager Mresuperstar returns for his ninth season with the hopes of getting back to the Pro Tour following a lackluster PCT campaign a year ago.

Transfer Window - Part 1

It's that time again. We have moved into a new "War Room" and are preparing for the chaos that is the Man-Game transfer season. Each offseason brings about plenty of changes. We start with the Desigual renewals.

Riders Released

The following 4 cyclists were let go before the start of the transfer season:

Bakhtiyar Kozhatayev: Negotiations broke down fairly early into our discussions with the Kazakhstan climber. Not sure if there was some miscommunication, but Kozhatayev was driving a hard bargain fresh off a 17th place at the bizarre cobbled/mountain road race World Championship. After three rounds of offers, Kozhatayev decided to walk out and test free agency.

Miguel Minguez Ayala: The aging veteran puncheur race one season with Desigual and was a decent helper for Simon Yates. But, given how bad our hilly department was last season, we decided to look elsewhere for new domestiques.

Mikel Landa: Same story as Miguel Minguez Ayala. Even though regression hasn't hit Landa yet, it's coming soon. We decided it might be best to look for a young replacement at this time. Or just use that money elsewhere with Xuban Errazkin and Jack Burke progressing into solid puncheurs.

Taylor Newton: It was an emotional day, but we knew it was coming. This was a mutual decision. Newton joined the 2014 Team CSC-Orbea squad and raced six seasons with us. The folklore legend created because of the extremely popular "The Comeback" story will always have a special place in my heart. Newton left the team after winning the only race of his career: Monterrey TTT.

We gave Newton the option to return to the team this upcoming season as a film scout if he didn't get any offers to race with another team.

Riders Renewed

The following 12 cyclists signed new contracts heading into the transfer season:

Looking to Sell/Swap

The following two cyclists are on our shortlist to sell or swap during this offseason: Rick Zabel and Alexey Tsatevich. No guarantees they will leave our team, but we are more inclined to listen to offers for these two talented cyclists.

Feel free to express interest in any of our cyclists during transfers, we will always get back to you via PM. But note: I don't see Justo Tenorio, Omar Fraile, Xuban Errazkin, Jack Burke or Simon Yates leaving us without an unbelievable offer.

Transfer Window - Part 2

Desigual is happy to announce our first two signings this offseason.

Please welcome back to the team David Abal and Eric Young. Both riders have previous experience racing under Mresuperstar and both have signed for 120,000 out of free agency to return to sweltering Spanish heat.

David Abal

David Abal returns home for one last good season. He was the captain for Mre's Team CSC-Orbea in 2013 and 2014 then came back in 2016 to race in the Pro Tour with Movistar-US Postal. In three seasons, Abal won three races. He will certainly get more chances to shine in arguably his last chance at a decent season before regression takes over for good. That said, pressure is off to be a superstar with Justo Tenorio leading the way.

Eric Young

31 Years Old : € 120,000 : 40th CT Individual Standings (183 Points)

An unmaxed Eric Young raced in the Pro Tour with Movistar-US Postal back in 2015. He didn't have too many standout moments and basically was a helper for former teammate Marcos Altur. We are excited to see what he can do as our lead classics specialist this season for the rare cobbled races we are forced to enter. He will also get to chase after stage wins on the flat when he is feeling good.

More signings, trades and loans to be made and confirmed. Stay tuned!

Transfer Window - Part 3

We continue our offseason updates with our buying and selling section.

Riders Sold

Rick Zabel: The son of legendary sprinter Erik Zabel has a lot of pressure on his shoulders to live up to his old man. He couldn't quite achieve that kind of success here at Desigual. But, with some training, he could reach his full potential. We couldn't make the investment in him, so he wanted to go elsewhere.

After an interesting bidding war, Italian PCT team Mapei came away as the victors; landing Zabel for a 900,000 cash fee. Zabel spent five seasons under Heine's management from 2012 to 2016, so we know they will take good care of him over there. So, a happy reunion.

Alexey Tsatevich: The Russian who never quite used his interesting skill set to full effect. The punchy cobbler will now get the chance to take on the CT circuit next season with Carrefour - ESPN. He was purchased for 500,000 and the return of the next cyclist on our list.

Riders Bought

Jernej Svab: Coming over in the Tsatevich deal is a former loanee. Svab raced in the Pro Tour with Desigual in 2018 to help in his development. He even featured in a Tour de France breakaway. Now, the 25-year-old returns full maxed out and ready to feature in more breakaways and help out Simon Yates.

FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFTDHPL
70717657707269666778686855

Conor Dunne: The towering 6-foot-8, charismatic big man was lured away from his hosting duties at the Global Cycling Network to join us here at Desigual. There is still an ongoing debate in the office if he is actually taller than the manager Mresuperstar. But Dunne is certainly a better cyclist. The acquisition cost 200,000 to pry him away from joining the GCN Racing team.

FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFTDHPL
66747469717273706269746969

Luca Wackermann: We have come to love our punchy sprinters here at Desigual over the last couple of seasons. Wackermann fits that mold perfectly. The 28-year-old has experience leading out superstar Arnaud Demare in multiple sprints at the Tour de France with Demare going on to win the green jersey.

We are hoping Wackermann can build up that same chemistry with Eric Young and Simon Yates. Like Dunne, Wackermann also joins us from Team Puma - SAP. It only cost us a modest fee of 125,000 for a very capable 50,000 waged veteran.

FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFTDHPL
74687453747473567472706451

Jhonatan Narvaez: The up-and-coming talent out of Ecuador (best known for racing alongside fictional dual-sport athlete Marcus Diamond) comes to Desigual with a bright future. Narvaez came with a 450,000 price tag from DK Žalgiris.

And possible maxed stats in a couple of seasons:

That's all for now. One more offseason update to go with the rest of our free agent signings and our loan deals to share. Then, of course, training.

Transfer Window - Part 4

We are coming to the end of transfer window. More free agents and loan deals.

Free Agents Signed

The following six cyclists were signed for the 2020 season with three of them being loaned out to other teams for development:

Juan Pedro Lopez: Arguably our top talent signing of the offseason. While the 23-year-old Spanish climber won't ever become a great like his idol Justo Tenorio, at least he gets to try and follow in his pedal strokes. Lopez has been loaned out for a speedy Level 1-3 development with Bralirwa - Stevens Bikes in the CT circuit where they will pay his 100,000 wage.

66787559717275556078746463

Simon Carr: From one idol to the next, Simon Carr even shares the same first name with his soon-to-be mentor Simon Yates. But the 22-year-old British puncheur will first join Bralirwa - Stevens Bikes as well for another Level 1-3 development boost. His 50,000 wage will be split 50-50.

68707757747171555972655958

Harold Tejada: Keeping the talents rolling, we signed 23-year-old Colombia climber Tejada for 60,000. A bargain if you ask me. He will be loaned out to Aegon - Peroni to go from Level 2-3 in his development.

FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFTDHPL
65706965667065575967656365
68777371727672575970666471

Jaume Sureda: A talent we will actually keep with the team this season. The Level 2, 24-year-old Spanish sprinter signed for the minimum 50,000 and should be a valuable lead-out man in the future.

FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFTDHPL
68626860676865637273706460
73637161726975657779726561

Federico Olei: The reigning San Marino RR champion is back with Desigual, this time as a member of the team and not a loanee. We are excited to bring him back with a wage of 75,000. Olei is going to quickly climb up our All-Time Wins leaderboard in program history by continuing to win national titles. The best part? He is only going to get better.

65667161706864507071626166
69677361747073537575626266

Nicolay Cherkasov: Another unmaxed signing. Cherkasov will be a little disappointed he can't race with fellow countryman Alexey Tsatevich, but he certainly has a lot of talent around him to be successful here as a strong lead-out man. We believe 24-year-old Cherkasov is the perfect setup man for our needs here at Desigual and we dished out a 75,000 contract rather late in the bidding process to secure his services.

Transfer Window - Part 5

The roster has been finalized! Our final signing is a stagiare giving us 21 cyclists with three more getting loaned out for experience. Quite pleased with the final product and feel confident about our chances to get back to the Pro Tour.

Stagiare Signing

Louis Visser: It's not a secret he wasn't exactly our first choice for our lone stagiare spot this season, but Visser is an intriguing cyclist nonetheless. The 22-year-old Level 1 talent is the first South African cyclist signed by Mresuperstar in nine seasons. Visser is trying to follow the lead of Erick Herrera who spent the last two seasons as Desigual as a stagiare before earning a full-time contract.

Abal was a complete steal considering I left him alone assuming Kozhitayev crowd would flock to him. Fraile is a rider that certainly belongs on Žalgiris, our hope is to get the better of Tenorio and grab Omar for ourselves

Tenorio will carry you deep into the mid-table, Yates will move you into the Top10 and with some good talent signed up the future is looking good!

If your training does not include making Simon at least 80HL i'm going to be very upset.

@quadsas: Yeah, I was prepared to pay more for Abal but glad I didn't have to. The perfect secondary GC rider for our squad with prior history with the team. Good luck getting Fraile. He has been with us since Day 1. Then again, we did let TheManxMissile eventually get Marcos Altur.

Training

There were a lot of different ways we could have played this. Did we make the right decision? Time will tell. We decided to go this route with the idea this is still an ongoing training project. We are completely invested at this point.

Simon Yates

+2 Sprint. Puncheur or sprinter? Why not both? Going this route also ensures Yates gets a few more race days this season and the option to continue training the sprint stat in the future at a less expensive cost.
