Tour of America - Stage 8
roturn
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C1/ToA/mg20_toa_08_PCM0001.jpg

After the GC got mixed up, the sprinters will have a chance and despite the bookies make the tiny uphill finish towards hill sprinters, the likely favourites should be the regular sprinters as we had on previous stages. Nevertheless it shows that there is a short uphill, which might favour riders like Young in especially.

5 riders in todays break and some regular teams of course.

It`s not the top KoM riders with only one Cat.3 here plus no chance to pass Penasa today. Still the riders go for it with Anuar Aziz in the lead followed by Kangangi and Eisenhart. No big changes, but Kangangi going into 5th, half of Penasa`s points though with 13 in total now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C1/ToA/mg20_toa_08_PCM0015.jpg

With 18km to go the gap is under 1min and the two strongest attack. Kangangi and Rivera decide to go solo.

Meanwhile Martinelli again one of todays workers, so let`s see how Nordica acts in todays sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C1/ToA/mg20_toa_08_PCM0017.jpg

Just under 10km to go, the full group, which re-fusioned a bit later, is caught again...

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C1/ToA/mg20_toa_08_PCM0019.jpg

...and sprint preperations can start. Glanbia, Kraftwerk, Nodrica are the three trains here.

2.3km and basically the three trains of 3 riders and Stepniak only have a gap.
The other sprinters are a bit behind while Europcar fails to set up a 4th train. Schorn and Kvist have found each other but main sprinter Ranneries continues to struggle when bringing himself into position.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C1/ToA/mg20_toa_08_PCM0035.jpg

The pace dropped a bit with 1,5km to go when the Kraftwerk train collapsed and also Glanbia wasn`t working well it seems as Bennett moved over to the left, now being directly ahead of Haller.

Meanwhile Martinelli ahead of Ulanowski as last working leadout.

Stepniak a bit behind and also Vaquera coming closer with Von Hoff, Young still having a bigger gap.

Also Kvist/Schorn moving up and might go for themselves no longer waiting on Ranneries.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C1/ToA/mg20_toa_08_PCM0042.jpg

The Europcar duo was on the wrong, maybe windier side of the road, which was probably the reason for Bennett to move over as we see a long line on the far left side now.

Martinelli-Ulanowski-Stepniak-Bennett-Haller-Vaquera-Von Hoff-Young-Bogdanovics and less than 1km to go slightly uphill.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C1/ToA/mg20_toa_08_PCM0046.jpg

700m when Ulanowski and Stepniak go into the wind side by side with Martinelli having done a pretty impressive leadout.

Bennett following with Haller/Vaquera next.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C1/ToA/mg20_toa_08_PCM0049.jpg

300m and while the uphill might not be too much, Ulanowski is not the most suited rider on any kind of uphill and starts to struggle.

Bennett goes through the middle attacking Stepniak with Haller behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C1/ToA/mg20_toa_08_PCM0051.jpg

200m and Bennett could take the first stage after coming close before as neither Stepniak nor Ulanowski can respond.

Main threat though is Haller just behind him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C1/ToA/mg20_toa_08_PCM0053.jpg

And the dominant sprinter indeed still passing him. Not sure if there was some headwind as well today but having waited the longest has helped him today.

Bennett in 2nd ahead of Ulanowski with Stepniak down to 4th ahead of Young, Vaquera, Von Hoff and Schorn.

By the look of it the sprint competition with the new system plus a very dominant series winner could become the most boring of all this Tour.
