One more day and it`s a flat stage, so normally the GC should be set and also the KoM is safe as long as Mannion is finishing.
It`s the last chance for some sprinters (Ulanowski/Bennett/Stepniak...) to win a stage. Haller is the dominant sprinter here, no surprise with such dominant team with him. Young did the "impossible" and won a stage recently, but surely can take another as well.
Cannibals being cannibals. Despite his tiny tiny gap of almost 100 points in the point ranking, Haller decides to go for the early sprint...and it`s not other sprinters with him there...it was the breakaway attempt, which Haller now kind of ruined.
Good for them that Haller waited in the end and the peloton decided to still let them go.
Lafay
Kangangi
Delgerbayar
Erdenesuren
Agostini
the five riders trying their luck.
No surprise that next to Kraftwerk it`s Fablok and Glanbia to chase. Their GC riders kind of overperformed or at least showed themselves a lot while their sprinters were regular in the first rows but so far not having gotten their win yet.
Glanbia though lost two of their riders yesterday, which surely doesn`t make things easier as Ford and Frame were the main chasing riders on the flat.
McConvey and Clarke though will do as well I guess.
With 8km to go the break basically is caught while behind some gaps open as the wind is neither that strong but neither too less. 22 riders in group 1. Basically though it`s the 1-2 plus sprinters and then all others, so not really any exciting news.
7km and all together again and Kraftwerk now at the front. Haller already in 2nd position though behind Bol.
And gap. This time most GC riders were attentive but then there is Garby, who seems to look for crashes/splits/weak daily form a lot.
Another GC rider behind is Fraile while sprinter wise only the Nordica duo Ulanowski/Martinelli are caught.
Good for BNZ that their sprinter Von Hoff is still up there and actually with 3km right next to Haller. No big support for both though but several Kraftwerk riders a bit behind him.
Also the other sprinters are there with Young and Vaquera in the first rows.
Bennett/Bogdanovics/Stepniak still a bit in the middle while Ranneries again poorly placed at the end of the group.
McConvey showed great climbing yesterday and today he is Glanbia`s first leadout and chasing guy. Though with 1.7km he might have to stop as behind him it`s Haller instead. Then Von Hoff, Young and Vaquera.
King though coming up with Bennett and Stepniak takes their train just like Venturini.
900m and King shows his class. He takes the lead with Bennett perfectly placed behind him. Then Venturini, McConvey, Bogdanovics, Haller and the others.
500m and Bennett in the lead. Venturini looking fast today while Haller seems to struggle without a proper train today. Some sprinters lost contact a bit. Young and Vaquera must be named here.
And the Glanbia sprinter actually takes it home. The others were either too tired or just didn`t have it today. Bennett got perfectly placed by King with 1km to go and was never really in doubt to win.
Venturini in 2nd behind a bit of a surprise. Maybe he and Stepniak should have cooperated today for the stage win.
Haller with another podium then following. Not the win but he really was having a huge race nevertheless plus being the GC winners team as Nerz brings it home safely in the pack as 22nd of the day.
61 riders in that group. Then some lost 1'45 including Fraile!
Garby actually just made it back somehow. Not sure if he sprinted late to close the gap or how he did it. But he is s.t. as the winner.
As Gebremedhin also got caught behind, Fraile still as 12th overall behind Denz while Burke moves behind his team mate in 13th ahead of Kiserlovski and Gebremedhin.
Unfortunately I missed to make podium shots, so here the regular results only.
