Grands Prix Cyclistes
Welcome to Canada, welcome for the sixth edition of the Grands Prix Cyclistes! Before 2015 this race was divided in two classics, the GP’s of Montréal and Québec, but instead of looking at the past, let’s look at the future! The nearby future that is, as tomorrow 190 riders will be at the startlist of this year’s edition. Let’s have a look at the best puncheurs!
| MTN | HILL | STA | RES | REC | Claeys | 66 | 82 | 72 | 66 | 67 | Di Maggio | 65 | 82 | 73 | 68 | 65 | Beltran | 79 | 81 | 73 | 72 | 72 | Buchmann | 76 | 81 | 73 | 74 | 74 | Paulinho | 75 | 80 | 70 | 72 | 74 | Prevar | 71 | 80 | 77 | 70 | 68 | Waeytens | 71 | 80 | 72 | 70 | 68 | Borges | 70 | 80 | 75 | 73 | 70 | Ulissi | 66 | 80 | 83 | 71 | 72 | Dowsett | 65 | 80 | 74 | 69 | 67 | Chaves | 76 | 79 | 74 | 73 | 72 | Yates | 70 | 79 | 77 | 70 | 73 | Gebrezgabihier | 70 | 79 | 74 | 74 | 72 | Bilbao | 67 | 79 | 77 | 71 | 71 | Turgis | 66 | 79 | 76 | 78 | 70 | De Plus | 76 | 78 | 74 | 73 | 71 | Benoot | 75 | 78 | 75 | 74 | 74 | Siskevicius | 73 | 78 | 73 | 72 | 68 | Moazemi | 73 | 78 | 72 | 72 | 75 | Klemme | 72 | 78 | 71 | 67 | 68 | Dyrnes | 72 | 78 | 73 | 73 | 70 | Landa | 69 | 78 | 70 | 69 | 70 | Guldhammer | 81 | 77 | 74 | 75 | 74 | Errazkin | 72 | 77 | 74 | 73 | 74 | Bettiol | 71 | 77 | 78 | 75 | 74 | Bratashcuk | 71 | 77 | 75 | 70 | 69 | Teklit | 70 | 77 | 75 | 72 | 70 | Dieteren | 70 | 77 | 75 | 70 | 68 |
There are not a lot of longer mountains during the two stages, which definitely favours the pure puncheurs. Claeys and Di Maggio. The Minion and Campari rider look quite alike, as they both don’t like mountains and are both not the best looking at their physical capacities. One big difference between the two though, as Di Maggio has already shown he likes this race, as he won it back in 2018.
The three names below them also have some things in common. Beltran, Buchmann and Paulinho are all good puncheurs as well as strong climbers, although the Colombian really stands out when it comes to pure climbing. Nevertheless, as mentioned above, this parcours doesn’t contain any crazy long mountains, but as those three are the best on the list when it comes to recovery, they might still have that advantage of the other competitors.
Waeytens will also be a decent bet for a top-10 or even top-5, and as his team has also brought Gebrezgabihier here, they even have two horses to bet on. Speaking about horses, some strong puncheurs with the lung of a horse will also be at the start of the Grands Prix Cyclistes. Ulissi stands out in this regard, but Prevar and Borges also belong to the 80+ puncheurs with good stamina. The tenth name on the list is that of Dowsett, who stands out in a negative way, as except for his puncheur capacities he seems to be one of the weaker names on the list. Hopefully for his team he can prove me wrong in the coming days.
Now then, is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Vuelta stage winner Yates who defends the colours of Desigual in Canada. I’ve said it before and I will say it again: even my grandmother knows you shouldn’t go to the finish line together with the Brit. Just above his name we find Chaves, who will try to keep the honour of “home” team Azteca high. The Colombian is a versatile rider, and the same can also be said aboot De Plus, Benoot and Guldhammer.
Bilbao and Turgis are also similar riders, as they’re not the best climbers but have a decent sprint in them while also having what was earlier referred to as a horse lung, although I should use a moose lung instead. Special mention goes to Canelon, who is not only the worst puncheur, but also the worst climber on the startlist. Speaking about that startlist, you’ll find it below as usual. Best of luck to everyone!

I expect Beltran to finish somewhere in the 5-10 range. That's the best he's done all season and that's his reality now.
Thank you for the preview

SOME points would be sweet, but doubt Siskevicius can do much here

Looking for depth scoring from our three headed puncheur Hydra Bilbao/Moazemi/Klemme.
Thanks for the preview Nemo.

The objective is to finish in the top 10 of the two stages and also in the general one. Unfortunately from what I have seen throughout the season these stages are not the best for Paulinho's characteristics.

Interesting tactics here, I wonder if either of those two can hold on. But mostly wondering about what the AI will do with De Plus now.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Weird to see a breakaway taking the stage, but nice to see Hindley in 2nd place!

Mixed feelings, on the one hand we achieved one of the goals that was to stay in the top 10 of the stage, but on the other hand it costs to realize how it was possible to let the break win the stage. The next stage will have to be quite tough if we want to leave behind those who today managed to gain an advantage that they shouldn't have achieved.

Happy for TMM, that should surely be enough to prove my point about relegation not being an issue
Less happy with how the stage played out, although I'd have taken 7th from Turgis considering the field so can't complain too much. Looks like Bettiol was burned out from chasing, but hopefully he can move up into the top 30 tomorrow. Having reported this race last season Stage 2 is much tougher and should be more selective, but can't rule out a few members of the break being able to hang on to the main group so if Turgis just doesn't go backwards I'll be content. |

Haven't been able to pay much attention to MG lately but a very nice sight to come back and see Urcelay in a winning break, maybe a very decent final GC, very important points up

So Claeys shows up for once to finish second, only to be relegated to eighth because of the break. Hopefully he can pass them all tomorrow

Real shame a Kraftwerk rider didn't make the break as we have good deoth here. We had Bol and Vermeersch chasing in the later stages but the break could not be brought back due to attrition whittling down other domestiques.
Bilbao is in 11th which is not bad, but our better puncheurs are way back so depth scoring will be difficult now.
Thanks for the report Nemo and congrats to TMM

Wow, two seriously impressive performances from Hindley! Had very low expectations for this race, but Hindley certainly made sure the trip to Canada was worthwhile for us. Without a doubt the best performance from a loanee in the team's history!
Congrats to jaxika and thanks for the reports!
