Kenya Mountain Classic
Welcome to Kenya for the infamous Kenya Mountain Classic! Edition number eight of the C1 classic already, and quite a strong startlist ready to award themselves some extra salary and their teams some more points. Let’s keep it short and have a look at tomorrow’s contenders for a strong result, with most of them probably dreaming of the win.
| MON | HILL | STA | RES | ACC | Tenorio | 84 | 76 | 78 | 76 | 67 | Denifl | 83 | 75 | 73 | 69 | 63 | Kudus | 82 | 77 | 79 | 77 | 70 | Wellens | 82 | 75 | 79 | 80 | 68 | Cattaneo | 82 | 70 | 76 | 80 | 70 | Monsalve | 81 | 76 | 79 | 80 | 73 | Carthy | 81 | 75 | 77 | 76 | 69 | Henao Montoya | 81 | 70 | 74 | 78 | 72 | Preidler | 80 | 78 | 71 | 77 | 69 | Padun | 80 | 77 | 72 | 74 | 75 | Oomen | 80 | 75 | 78 | 77 | 69 | Choi | 80 | 74 | 77 | 76 | 68 | Nerz | 80 | 72 | 75 | 72 | 68 | Ratiy | 80 | 70 | 70 | 73 | 58 | Intxausti | 80 | 69 | 75 | 75 | 67 | Beltran | 79 | 81 | 73 | 72 | 76 | Pomoshnikov | 79 | 74 | 78 | 76 | 66 | Pantano Gomez | 79 | 71 | 73 | 74 | 68 | Garby | 79 | 70 | 71 | 76 | 70 |
sPanish, ReAdy to wiN, inKrEdibly strong anD the favourite of tomorrow’s race. Now have a look at the capital letters in that sentence and you can spell the name of the rider we’re talking about. It is indeed Spanish national champion Tenorio at the top of the list, and not without a valid reason. Best climber, good puncheur and hard to break. He will be trying to win the KMC for the first time, and has Nazaret and Abal by his side to do so. Another strong climber with a decent punch is Denifl. The Austrian might be the worse on the list if we take into account his physical capacities, but Zalgiris does have a back up option with former winner Intxausti as well.
Purely looking at their climbing skills, Kudus, Wellens and Cattaneo are next on the list. The former two are good puncheurs as well, while the Italian is one of the worst on the list. Monsalve and Carthy were recently spotted together talking a lot in the the peloton in the Middle East, and have apparently really become good friends there. According to their wives they have spent more time texting each other than doing family stuff the last couple of weeks. Will the two of them capitalize on this newfound friendship and try something together to surprise the favourites tomorrow?
Henao Montoya might not be a top favourite anymore due to his age and declining skills, the Colombian is the only rider at the start tomorrow to have won the Kenya Mountain Classic twice. This time a top-10 would probably already be good enough for manager fintas, at least when comparing his skills to the competition. Don’t really know what to say about Preidler without making ivaneuropa sad and regretting offering him a 600k salary. Adastra is one of the teams in the relegation battle, so it’s time for the Austrian to shine and show the world that he is worth that sum of money. Padun and Oomen will also be hoping for a good day and a top-10 place at the end of the race. Nerz hopes to deliver a solid result for Kraftwerk, while Ratiy is the first CT rider on the list. Not the best season so for far the Nordica rider, and honestly it shouldn’t be otherwise tomorrow, unless he has an exceptional daily form. Beltran is one of the worst climbers on this list, but will hope to make the difference with a late punch if he manages to hold on long enough. He has already shown us that he is able to finish on the podium in a C1 mountain classic, and another similar result would definitely give Swisslion some very welcome points in their relegation battle.
Now then, here is the full startlist, good luck to everyone!

Well, we don't have Bonifazio here, that's a plus. Oomen should get a top 10 here, let's hope there's some minor points as well.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Denifl and Intxausti delivered in spades last time they rode together, I expect nothing less this time

I’ve been praniked
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Another chance for Mai to prove himself I'd be shocked if we got any points at all. Hopefully we at least get someone in the breakaway. And then I'd like Nerz in the Top 5 please thanks for preview, looking forward to the report!

Montoya has been very inconsistent throughout the season, being able to get great results but also to achieve disastrous results.
Still, anything below the top 10 in this race will certainly be a disappointment

Top 5 should be doable, and hopefully we can do one better and get on the podium. Looking forward to see if Monsalve and Carthy have stitched out a masterplan with all this texting they've been doing

Finally Beltran vs Preidler, the battle of the biggest PCT dissapointments
I'm hoping for a top 10, but Beltran as a 79 MO rider would have to beat out all the 80 MO riders and with his average RES and STA that is unlikely. This could easily be a 0 pointer.
Kudus is the favourite for me, he's been very good all season.
Thanks for the preview Nemo

That sounds about right Well, I wanted a guy in the breakaway and I got it, so I won't complain. Congrats to desigual, the expected win. And thank you for the report

So close and yet so far, Tenorio on a completely separate level makes it impossible to reach the goal of victory.
Still, I am more than satisfied with what Montoya achieved in this race, 2nd place is a great result and as the team had the goal of winning this race we were very close to achieving it.
Congrats to Desigual and thanks for the report

Top 10 failed by Oomen, but De Plus and Senni both secured a top 20, so I'm happy.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Solid win from Tenorio. Wish he had more wins like this throughout the season.

Was hoping for a bit more, but the startlist was simply too strong here.
Congrats Mre and thanks for the report Nemo

Talk about diverse standings - the first 11 riders are from 11 different teams. In the Top 15 only MOL has 2 riders. As for Preidler - given the stacked field, 7th is good. And congrats to the Desigual team and Tenorio, as well as Nemolito for the report
