The gravel roads of Tuscany await us for the 2020 edition of the Strade Bianche, often termed to most scenic race on the cycling calendar. The race moves from the PTHC scale to the HC scale for this year's edition, meaning the best riders from the PCT will be competing in this year's edition.
The most recent winners of this race are Toms Skuijns and Simone Ponzi but no past winners start this particular edition. This gives an opportunity for someone to put their name up onto the honours board of this event.
The profile will take the riders over 194.7 km of constantly undulating roads before culminating in a short uphill sprint to the line. This is a race meant for the pure punchers, unless a daredevil gets other thoughts some time in the race!

Di Maggio starts as top favourite for this race, with his combination of string hill-climbing skill and powerful kick.
Schreurs and Beltran are better overall riders with the former's top speed likely to help him if it comes down to a sprint to the line.
The aging Claeys still has enough prowess to find himself high on the favourites' list of such races but his backups have deteriorated and I think his team will be happy if he lives up to his rating.
Always a contender for a great result, Borges holds his team's hopes on his capable shoulders, and will be targeting a podium at the minimum from this race. He is perhaps the best 'finisher' in this race among the top contenders.
Ulissi is similar to Borges in his make-up, and has a better sprint to boot, He is another contender to finish higher than where the preview puts him.
Paulinho isn't much different from the previous duo, with his improvements in the off-season. The only thing that can hold him back is his slow sprint, if it comes down to that.
Turgis is one part of Farfetch's plans for this race, with Yates not making it onto the favourites' list because of his lower puncher capabilities. Turgis started off the season excellently with a win in Gisborne and would like to continue that form in this race.
Betancourt, Prevar, Waeytens and Dowsett are very similar riders, and each of them are well capable of a Top 5 finish on their day. It remains to be seen as to what strategy GCN adopt between Schreurs and Dowsett, because the two of them racing together has previously backfired on them already this season.
Gebrezgabihier is likely to the super-domestique/co-leader for MOL behind Waeytens while Bilbao and Gautier will take leadership duties for their respective teams and upset the predictions with a higher finish.

De Plus not making the preview is a bit scary, but the shorter hills aren't as good for him as the longer hills in Portugal and Pais Vasco. Still, a top 20 would be nice.

Benoot is here, will be a test to see in which area to focus on his further training. Is his base stats more fit for these types of races or not. Any sort of point harvest would be satisfactory, so lets try and get into a break, so we might be able to take a surprise result home from Italy.

I sent Yates here because of the non-stop climbing in the first half of the race, which should be very dependent on the Mountain stat. However after the season Turgis has had so far, I'm no longer convinced that was really necessary  |

Will this be the first race of the year that Summerhill won't win? Andorra come with a huge cobbles lineup again, but I guess that won't be really useful here...
Beltran, Borges and Turgis are my favorites, so someone else will probably win

Paulinho has been in good shape since we got rid of Vogt. I hope that this good form can continue in this race, to expect a victory would be unrealistic but I think that a top5 is quite possible.
