Tour of Britain

Race Profile

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/profiles/c1_bri-v2.jpg

Believe it or not, this is already the thirteenth edition of the Tour of Britain, which has seen many divison changes over the couple of years. The first edition was won by Tommeke Boonen, the last two were won by Jerome Coppel for Carrefour. Both of them won’t be at the start tomorrow, as one is retired and the other is doing his thing in the PT. It’s an interesting stage race, where the winner will need to be good in the hills and a decent time trialist. There seems to be one big favourite looking at the startlist. First of all, let’s have a look at the best allrounders.

MTN HILL TT STA RES

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/rpn.png Dunbar7575757275

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/zal.png Ahmad Zamri7570757274

I admit, there is a very good chance that half of this list won’t even make the top-25 because they lack the punching/and or time trialing capacities to really compete with the specialists and not lose too much time, but whatever. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/pol.png Izagirre is the best paid rider on the startlist, and it’s time for him to prove his worth. This Tour seems to be made for him, as he is the number one favourite by far. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/rpn.png Dunbar also a very interesting name, who should win the white jersey as he is so incredibly balanced, as everything should be. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sct.png Nepomnyachsniy and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/zal.png Ahmad Zamri are not the best puncheurs, but good climbers and time trialists, while the climbing part could definitely come in handy on stage four, where we see several steep and “long” climbs right before the finish line. The only real time trialist in this list is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/fpc.png Paillot, if he’s feeling well and he can keep up with the others in the British hills, he is definitely a dangerous name for the GC as well.

Let’s have a look at the stage favourites (and possible GC favourites as well of course). First, the punchers.

Olala, three teams with two riders amongst the best seven puncheurs according to this table. Polar, GCN and Campari are sandwiching pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/duo.png Borges, GC and stage winner of the Tour of South Africa recently. The time trial there was in team though, individually the Portuguese isn’t the best time trialist. Another stage winner in South Africa was pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cen.png Moscon, who will be trying to repeat that little trick in Britain as well. Are the stages hard enough for the Italian, who has the challenge to keep Centovalli in the title hunt? pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/des.png Yates definitely won’t say no to some reduced bunch sprints, while below him we find two other CT riders in pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/esc.png Meyer and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png Edmondson. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lpu.png De Plus also stands out with his climbing abilities.

The time trialists will have 29 km to shine, which means last year’s 56 km time trial has been cut in half! Let’s find out who the best time trialists are in Britain.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gcn.png Archibald76
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afr.png Hamza76

Can’t really add much to this list, as the time trial itself is flat from start to finish. Red means good, green means a bit worse but still okay.

Stage two might end in a bunch sprint, just as it did last year. Let’s see who the best sprinters at the start will be.

HILL SPR ACC
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/duo.png Ciolek648176

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Feiereisen687778
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png Weber677777

The sprinting startlist is weak, which gives some interesting names a chance to win their first race of the year, or even their career. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Salleh might be the best sprinter, but he’s by far the weakest climber and puncheur. Is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/duo.png Ciolek able to shine like he used to do, or will the puncheur capacities be important, which is something for other guys like pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/xr0.png Houle and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Kreder? We will find out soon.

Good luck to everyone!

Weak-ish squad for us here, but Zamri has proven that he can do well randomly. Dees Nuts would've been great here I imagine. 20 pprd seems like a pipedream, but you never know, maybe Siskevicius decides to stop being a complete scrub

Hopefully Nepomnyachsniy can hang on in the hills and lose minimal time there. Otherwise this is pretty close to a 0 pointer.

Thanks for the preview Nemo Smile

De Plus and especialy Mareczko with a rare chance of leadership, looking forward to this!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Ah, I didn't realise how short the TT was - thought it was still the 50km or so from last year...

Still, this is about the strongest team we could possibly put out considering the clash with Balkans. Doubt it'll matter for much, but we need a good result otherwise Repsol will become the first other team to lead the rankings since January in the very near future Pfft

Oof, not much to expect here. Breakaways are our only option.

Will be fun to check out the overall battle (obv hard to look past Izaguirre but with PCM you never know)

Only got six riders here due to race clashes, so hopefully home crowd favourite Simon Yates has enough support to make something happen here. Got to be Izaguirre for the win. But we will go for stage wins and a Top 5 overall finish.

I definitely hope that there will be only very small groups fighting for the win on stages 1 and 4 - which is pretty much the only chance Moscon has to get a decent GC position. Stage results would be nice, too, but the most important thing will be to shake off weaker puncheurs as early as possible. Lienhard, Saggiorato and Brüngger should be able to do that, if we actually take some responsibilities.
It won't be possible to get past Izagirre I guess, but all others from the allrounders list could be beatable. Let's see!

Thanks for the preview, and good luck everyone!

On paper, Izagirre should win here. With such unpredictable PCM 18 AI, GC podium will be good I guess. I need selective hill stages to shake off Paillot or 75/76 hybrids, but not too selective when huge time loss to riders like Borges, Slagter, Yates or Turgis might be a real threat Grin

Thanks for the preview!

Looking to get some stage results and maybe a top5-10 with Borges. Golden opportunity for Izagirre here.

Thanks for another race Nemo!

Zamri and LUCAS HAMILTON beating Siskevicius. that boy needs to RETIRE.

Zamri just needs to hold on and not get dropped somehow and he's gonna pop the f off

De Plus on the right side of the split, guess that's all that matters now. Congrats GCN!

Nepomnyachsniy didn't lose any time which has to be a successful day for us. Tomorrow should be calm, maybe we can send someone in the breakaway. The TT on stage 3 is where we have to do well.

Congrats on the win hoyle Smile

Oh so close, crazy photo finish there. Yates needed a few more centimeters to take the win and leader's jersey.

In the front group is a good start for Edmondson. Hopefully he can stick with the front runners and get a high GC position.

jph27
Paillot and Figueiredo in the front group is a promising start, and should hopefully put the former into the GC lead after the TT. Stage 4 looks likely to be the most selective one so if he can gain 2-3 minutes on the top puncheurs (bar Izagirre of course) he should be able to get a good GC even with time loss there.

Nice to see GVK active in the break, sadly no KoM jersey for now. Faiers not losing any time here is also a positive sign for a potential GC result! Thanks for the report and a fantastic start for home team GCN!

Sykkel_Freak
Good start for Gallopin! Now it's all about putting in a good TT performance on stage 3.

Nice to see our former rider Schreurs win the stage. Congrats to GCN! Smile

Fabianski
Great start by Moscon! Always hurts to miss out on the win by just a few inches, but it's still a good result in a C1 race. What is much more of an issue is that so many strong TTers couldn't be distanced, so now we need to race really hard on stage 4 right from the start. Lienhard has proven today that he can set quite a fast pace, so let's get more from that!

Congrats to GCN, and thanks for the report!

Average start with surprisingly strong Betancourt. I´m not sure, maybe his best result this season so far.

Thanks for the report!
