Stage 2 in Barbados, and plenty of sprinters with something to prove after Stage 1 went well for some, and not so well for others.

Centovalli - Fiat
This is also a big day for the breakaway. The two highest categorised climbs of the race means there is potential to both take the King of the Mountains lead, and all but put it out of reach. There's two intermediate sprints for the bonus seconds too, after just the one yesterday.
We saw plenty of riders at the front early on, either attacking, or looking to track and prevent moves from getting away. These riders were sighted in the centre of the action:
Eekhoff
Richardson
Acosta
Alba
Cepeda
Florez
Garcia
Garrison
Hindley
Nooytens
Juodvalkis
Goldstein
Rumac
Soulious
Affini
Schädlich
Covi
McNulty
Mostov
Dina
Welten
Mullen
Nych
Stenersen
Mas
Penko
At one point featuring the bizarre sight of Polar, and almost the entire Azteca team, all side by side attacking, across the width of the road.
The three riders who had attacked first, clung on to their small gap in time for the first intermediate sprint. Mas wins from Hindley and Richardson.
Could be a couple of important seconds for Hindley - he's part of the U25 competition.
The sprint also proved to be the straw that broke the camel's back, and the attacking ceased. These three riders rode clear, while Soulious dragged himself across to reach them. No luck for Polar or Azteca then.
Hindley is the best climber in the move, but evidently we shouldn't underestimate how hard it was for this group to stay clear on the flat opening, with the company of two strong flat beats in Mas and Richardson.
Mas is able to win the climb!

Berg's Venezuelan domestique was leading the peloton as the climb summitted.
Climbs do have gradients, but perhaps the exact gradient is just a matter of perspective. Mas and Richardson, specialists on the flat, drop the other two on the second climb - and again it is Mas taking full points.

Completing the set, Mas picks up 3 more seconds at the sprint - a potential KoM win and reasonable GC placing, seems like a grand day out! Two seconds added for Richardson too.
In the meantime, the other two have been caught by the peloton. No sprint behind, and it is Beniusis who crosses in 3rd. He is U25, so a very handy second gained!
It's not just about clever bonus seconds though for the Zalgiris rider. Together with Hamilton, he proceeds to bury himself to look to pull the breakaway back - with Guerao in mind. When they can do no more, Minions take over, led by Hacecky, Martinez and Rekita.
And eventually it is Veyhe for Bakkafrost who closes the last gap of the breakaway - and still with 24km remaining.
There's a little uncertainty over what to do next, but eventually MOL, Lierse and Podium Ambition takeover. Three teams not happy with Stage 1 played out, looks like they're all preparing leadout trains today.
Yes, inside the final 5 kilometres, and here we go!

Alaphilippe
Bille
Mareczko
Aberasturi
Lo Cicero
Gaviria
Ewan
Boeckmans
Cavendish

And just like in Stage 1, this front selection of leadouts and sprinters starts to pull away!
Already the stage hopes are over for yesterday's top 2 Swift and Manninen. Vesely, Guarnieri too - and despite his team's work earlier, Guerao is going to miss the final sprint again.
It could be the GC riding away as well, the size of that gap opening up. Manninen realizes it is damage limitation now and starts to chase after it, a snake of sprinters following. Swift actually has Kupfernagel with him this time, not that it's helped much!
It is final leadout time, Mareczko leads the race, competing against Aberasturi. Pons faces a tough battle to keep up with that.
And we do see Mareczko opening an advantage. While Reinhardt looks like he is going to go for a long sprint, and is the first to make a move.
Final kilometre and the time for leadouts is over. It is advantage Gaviria, and now Ewan and Cavendish lead the chase. Lo Cicero has work to do.
Gaviria, Ewan, Cavendish, Avelino.
Just like yesterday, Avelino's promise starts to fade.
Just like yesterday, Boeckmans is finishing fast.
And wow is he finishing fast. Kris Boeckmans storms through to take the stage! He had been able to use Lo Cicero as a leadout man, and start his sprint later than everybody else.
Ewan edges out Gaviria for 2nd place.
From 5th to 4th for Cavendish. Then Avelino, Lo Cicero, Reinhardt.
Swift leads the charge behind, but it is only going to be for 11th place - leadouts Aberasturi, Mareczko and Pons hold on for the last bonus seconds.
Points classification scoring finishes for Lay, Vesely, Rowe and Van der Sande.
Hello, what's this.
With Hänninen, Mudarra and Omarsson finishing in positions 62-64, there's a clear gap behind!
Granigan rushes over the line for 65th, but it's too late. There was a gap of over 20 seconds, and this is going to shake things up - both for breakaway time bonus options, and for the teams classification!
First, let's settle the question of the top of the general classification. With 3rd then 1st, Boeckmans of course moves into the race lead. Swift is down to 2nd, at a 15 second deficit. The consistency of Cavendish places him in 3rd, with stage runner-ups Ewan and Manninen now completing the Top 5. It's a similar order in the Points competition.
Cherkasov kept himself well placed and retains the U25 lead. Neither Hindley nor Beniusis made the front split so it is a 3 second lead over the remaining younger sprinters. Hodeg now 2nd, Steimle 3rd.
As well as Hindley, our other time bonus gainers today - Mas and Richardson - were also in the second group, so no gains to be found there.
Ten teams were able to get three or more riders into that front split. Podium Ambition retain their classification lead, with a points total now of 79. Aramco DP are in 2nd but back on 129, with MOL on 156, then both Desigual and Lierse on 190.
