Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) entered the world of professional cycling in 2001 with telecom giant Tiscali. In there first year in the sport they were able to win the Tour de France king of the mountains classification with Laurent Jalabert. And then in 2002, Team CSC-Tiscali went to Italy and finish 2nd overall in the Giro with American Tyler Hamilton. Losing to Paolo Savoldelli by 1'41''. Tiscali unhappy with new ownership moving the team to Denmark in 2003, so they left the world of cycling. Leaving Team CSC is the head sponsor for the next 5 years.

With CSC as the top primary sponsor for the 2003 season, Hamilton was named team leader with one goal in mind, win the Tour de France. But that goal was short lived, Hamilton crashed on Stage 1 and lost a bunch of time. Even after a strong come back through the mountains, Hamilton just couldn't earn enough time and finish 4th overall. And at the end of the season Hamilton transfered teams, leaving a huge gap for a new leader.

Long time team manager, Bjarne Riis, needed another superstar to take Hamilton's place. The team brought on Ivan Basso to join Carlos Sastre in competing for Grand Tour wins. In the 2004 Tour de France, Team CSC had a very successful Tour, with Basso winning a mountain stage and reaching the podium in Paris with his third place finish. Bjarn Riis and Team CSC's efforts in the 2004 Tour were even made into the cycling movie Overcoming.

At the start of 2005 season financial problems hit the team hard, forcing many of their riders to take pay-cuts. But this was the strongest year yet for CSC. They won three team stage wins in the Giro d'Italia, one by David Zabriskie and two by Basso, though the overall victory escaped from Basso when he was beset by a stomach ailment. Midway through the 2005 Tour de France, CSC extended sponsorship until 2008. enabling Riis to renew the contract with Basso for an additional three years. Basso got second place in the tour and Zabriskie won in the prologue. Nicki Sørensen won a stage of the Vuelta a España. Team CSC won the 2005 ProTour.

In 2006, with sponsorship for several years, the focus was to win all three Grand Tours, with Ivan Basso riding both Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France, and Carlos Sastre the Vuelta a España. Team CSC surprised by announcing that Sastre would ride the Giro as helper for Basso, that he would ride all three Grand Tours. 2005's winner Paolo Savoldelli was strongest in the first stages, and Jan Ullrich took a surprise win in the time trial ahead of Basso, but Basso dominated with three wins on mountain finishes and in the team time trial. Basso won by 9'18''. The Tour de France announced that Basso would not ride the 2006 Tour after apparent involvement in the Operación Puerto doping scandal. Sastre took over as captain and was the strongest in the favorite group on the last mountain stages, but a poor last time trial placed him fourth overall. Basso still under dopping restrictions when the Vuelta came around meant the new team leader would be Carlos Sastre. Sastre came fourth in the Vuelta after starting in the lead when CSC won the initial team time trial. Carlos Sastre had now raced in the past 5 Grand Tours. Team CSC is comes away with the Pro Tour Championship again, back to back.

In 2007, Riis had no choice but to leave the team because of leaked doping scandals broke out around him. Ownership now went into hands of Balaverde, a new and upcoming manager. But very unexperience, and unorganized. He evenually transformed the team into a young squad from 2007 Cycling Draft. Pushing out old faces like Sastre and Julich. His plan for the new future put the old Team CSC up in smoke. After failing to get close to Grand Tour win, Team CSC finish 16th overall in Team Standings. After 2 great seasons (2005 and 2006), CSC hit rock bottom. Eventaully dropping their sponsorship and were replaced by Ferrari.

Now in 2012, Team CSC is back. Hoping to complete what they started in 2005, to win all 3 Grand Tour in 1 year. To help them with there goal, they have brought along Orbea. Orbea is know for their great bikes in Spain. Also CSC is very pleased to have Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) pledge their support and money to the team as well. CGD is a very trusted Portuguese state-owned banking corporation and the largest bank in Portugal. And last but not least, Carvalho Customs are glading in charge of putting our team in a quality custom made jersey for this year. Team CSC-Orbea is ready to take on the CT is year with the hope of promotion in the years to follow. But more importanly finish CSC's real goal ...

Win the Giro de Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta Espana, in 1 Year.

Entry #20

2012 Finished!

With National Championships closing out the season still,
I would now like to take the time to evaluate the past season,
along with looking towards the future of the CSC-Orbea program for 2013.

CT 22th Overall : 0/5 Goals : 5 Wins

That heading pretty much says it all.
In CSC standards, "A F***'n Awful Season."
And no I'm not paraphrasing, that's what the CSC president
had to say when asked about our performance.

i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/tachirattt-6.png

The Orbea bikes didn't even make it to our first few races of the season
because management put them on the wrong flight. Rookie mistake...

Rui Costa : Igor Antón : Julian Rodas

Our top 3 scorers for the team, contributing 57% of our total points.
Costa was the highest paid rider and also finished as our best rider.
While Antón never found a grove and didn't record a single win all season, but his 2nd at the Tour of America should be noted.
Then the early season underdog Rodas almost upset eventually
CT Champion Alarcon in his home tour but fell apart on the final stage.
And so did the rest of his season.

i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Strade/Strade50.jpg

One of the few bright spots on the season;
Rui Costa winning the Strade Bianche!

Youth : Retirees : Loanees

We saw a lot of promise from our youngsters,
Serafin José Blanco and Carlos Verona
could be found in numerous breakaways and have the potential to become key riders in the near future here with our team.

On the other side of the spectrum is Carlos Sastre,
he hangs his wheel ups after a rather disappointing final season.
However we are trying to work out a deal to keep him on board as a trainer or marketing executive for next season, he is figurehead for CSC Cycling.

And lastly the guys we just have to let return to dave92 at Wikipedia,
Andrew Talansky has a bright future ahead of him and we are glad he enjoyed his rookie season with our program.
He wish him the best of luck, if he even needs it, going forward.
And we also have to give thanks to Ivan Kovalev,
who helped us dramatically in the TT department
(and also kept fellow russian Romain Maksimov from going ballistic).

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Japan/mg_japan_4_2.jpg

Hats off for the legend Carlos Sastre as he completes his final season.

Romain Maksimov : Bruno Lima : Eloy Teruel

AKA the sprinters, didn't accomplishment much.
Maksimov managed just a few thirds for what was
as highly expected season from him.
And he didn't get much help from his sprint train Lima and Teruel.
Overall the sprinters didn't perform at all.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game/America1-19.jpg

Maksimov disappoints finishing the season without a win.

>The Future<

Before we start contract renewals I would like to give the riders a sense of where the stand with the team and allow the other managers to get a sneak peek at the direction I want to lead the team going forward.

Stage 5: Wait I Forgot I Had A Blog

It's been a rough year for the team and myself as we now enter September. With the team near the bottom of the table and since I really haven't preformed all year, it looks like I won't be given a contract renewal for next season. It's a part of cycling and hopefully I can find a job for next season even if it's in Division 2.

With that being said I get one last chance to impress the team during the Tour of America. The 21 stage CT GT is a beast and takes place right here in the United States. In fact the route this year rides right past my house!

After competing in the Tour of Colorado a few days ago I feel great and in top form, plus I didn't have to travel very far which is always a plus. And I was pleasantly surprised to hear that I would get to wear the #2. (#1 went to our leader Anton). I can't wait to get started and hopefully everything goes well for me and the team.

Sorry that I haven't blogged much over the year, they weren't paying me enough money to put that much effort into it. So this might be my last blog, unless I do something amazing or if CSC gives me a raise.

CSC is Back

Cycling just can't be cycling without CSC in the peloton. After dropping out of the sport at its highest in 2008, they have returned with co-sponsor Orbea. CSC has agreed to support the team's new HQ location in western Spain, and have brought the support of Caixa Gernal de Deposition (CGD) Bank, and Carvalho Customs. All 4 sponsors are ready to face the tough challenges for promotion to the ProTour. As this is the ultimate goal for CSC to reach the highest point of the sport again. And win a few Grand Tours before their sponsors bail from underneath them. It's going to be a long road that may require many seasons to achieve, but CSC has all faith in their new manager Mresuperstar to take their team back to the top.

Nice to have CSC back in the game!

The man-game actually started in the 2007 season, and Team CSC came 16th - before dropping sponsorship (replaced by Ferrari).

So is it alright if I keep my video or should I edit it?

Well, up to you - but if you can edit it, then yeh, go ahead. Considering how 'badly' CSC did in 2007 in the man-game, the theme of 'unfinished business' with the sponsor and the sport, springs to mind.

Well, up to you - but if you can edit it, then yeh, go ahead. Considering how 'badly' CSC did in 2007 in the man-game, the theme of 'unfinished business' with the sponsor and the sport, springs to mind.

Ok, video will be taken down until fixed.

Okay, now the big question is... how did you embed a video into the post? Mine just wouldn't work.

Good job by the way. Definitely got that new team, look at us! feeling about it.

Very unrealistic long term goal, but otherwise, a good team presentation

Well, you have to have a Dream. With hard work, a strong team, and teamwork anything is possible. I hope I can look back on this comment years from now, and hopefully say CSC finally achieved the ultimate goal.

Preparation Has Begun

Early today the new 2012 race calendar was released, and managers all across the man-game have just started to plan team goals. Just like any other team we hope to plan accordingly otherwise its going to be a long season. Now that Team CSC-Orbea is in the CT we will have to face new races that viewers aren't accustomed to see the CSC logo race in. It's going to be a long road before CSC is able to break into the ProTour again, and have any chance to challenge in the Grand Tours. But the road to get there starts today. We hope to base our schedule on European stage races. With the hopes of building a strong climbing squad, many mountains are likely to appear within our race selection choices. But the hard part about managing a fresh squad is not knowing what riders you will have to complete your team goals. The hard the goals the more salary, equals better riders. With that in mind our goals will be set around medium-hard. Because CSC likes challenges, but more importantly great riders.
