Vuelta a Mallorca - Stage 5
SportingNonsense
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-1.jpg

Samuel Sanchez leads Valverde by 12 seconds. If no gaps, it could all come down to the finish - 20 seconds on the line for victory, and Valverde should excel on a stage finish like this.

KoM 1: Santambrogio, Lloret, Valjavec
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-2.jpg

Breakaway: Santambrogio, Lloret, Valjavec, Hansen, Landa
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-3.jpg

4 more: Arndt, Gottfried, Passeron, Marinangeli
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-4.jpg

KoM 2: Hansen, Valjavec, Arndt
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-5.jpg

KoM 3: Gottfried, Arndt, Hansen
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-6.jpg

Having been in a great position to secure KoM jersey, laziness from Lloret has opened the door to Santambrogio, Valjavec, Hansen and Arndt. But Lloret wakes up and wins the 4th climb, from Valjavec and Santambrogio - thus securing the jersey. (Lloret also won the sprint just before this KoM)
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-7.jpg

Also on KoM 4: Roche, Weening, Di Maggio, Augustyn attack
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-8.jpg

They are caught on the descent though
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-9.jpg

Di Maggio and Weening try again, failing. Roche has more success, with Augustyn, De la Fuente, Marzano and Calzati
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-10.jpg

Hesjedal also involved as they close in on the break
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-11.jpg

More attacks come, and Valjavec tries to stay clear of the main climbers
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-12.jpg

But by the top, its breaks and attacks over. LL Sanchez ahead of Cobo and Roche
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-13.jpg

Cobo launches himself into the descent. S Sanchez follows
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-14.jpg

And the race leader goes solo in the final 10km
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-15.jpg

Heres the counter move. Valverde leading De la Fuente and Marzano
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-16.jpg

Valverde and De la Fuente stop. But Marzano takes advantage, gets a gap
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-17.jpg

Cobo, Calzati, Salerno, Hesjedal and Kolobnev all attack at 3.5km to go
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-18.jpg

Marzano still leads as the sprint begins
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-19.jpg

But Kolobnev moves past him
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-20.jpg

No sign of Valverde or S Sanchez - which is great news for the latter
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-21.jpg

Line in sight, Kolobnev still leads but LL Sanchez is fast
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-22.jpg

Luis Leon Sanchez wins the stage! Then Kolobnev, Grau, Weening and Costa.
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/mallorcas5-23.jpg

No gaps amongst first 43 finishers, so Samuel Sanchez wins the Vuelta a Mallorca!
