Second chance for the sprinter teams to get a stage win after yesterdays fail, that gave Ferrari`s Santambrogio the leader jersey after a long solo ride.
Main favourite once again Davis
and
Haedo
4 riders in an early break.
Sestili McCarthy Mazur Rovira
Some kilometers later they are joined by some more riders.
Aramendia Rutkiewitz Schädlich Reis Visconti
California Giant is doing lots of the work in the peloton and again Ryan Eastman spends his energy for Haedo instead of saving it for the next hard mountain top finish.
Also Ferrari is doing their task to defend the leader shirt.
Only KoM of the day and except of the two Bianchi riders they are all fighting for the points.
Rutkiewitz already collected some points yesterday and could equal with Dieteren here.
But it`s Schädlich winning the sprint ahead of Sestili and the Emu rider.
This means, Dieteren will wear the jersey for another day.
With 100km to go the advance is at 7'30. Especially Eastman, Brandt, Koren and Peterson for Cal Giant and Ochoa Quintero/Caminiti for Hollister are doing the pace here. So some decent climbers, that could do well in the overall.
The group is still working well together and so they still have a gap of 2'30 with 30km to go. It will be close but they surely have a chance.
Bad news for Ferrari. 15km to the finish Capecchi crashed and no one else but race leader Mauro Santambrogio rides into his team mate. Also the young rider jersey is on the asphalt. It`s Vingerling, who was already looking for a good sprint position.
As the crash happened in the first part of the peloton many riders got blocked or felt, too.
Bad news for many team leaders. Big names being on the ground:
Duarte, Krasnoperov, Ortega, Anton or Vanendert.
Even worse for some teams that first three had to abandon the race due to heavy injuries.
Krasnoperov just won the Tour of Taiwan and now the race is already over for him.
Quite a huge group got blocked including many big names.
These blocked riders are Ratiy, Cobo, Larsson, Efimkin or Sörensen.
All of them will surely lose time today.
Hollister and Cal Giant do not stop the pace making as their two sprinters are still within this group like most other sprinters.
Also in this first group are big favourites Rujano, Castano, Pellizotti, Eastman, Lövkvist, Nicacio, Lloret, Txurruka and Martinez.
This could also be a chance for the breakaway. At least they try everything.
2nd group is lead by several teams now hoping for reducing the time loss. Some teams had two leaders like Venchi with Duarte/Pellizotti but teams like Volkswagen or Emu Export with just one GC man can almost stop all ambitions with Krasnoperov out and Ratiy losing some time today.
With 5km to go Rovira is not giving up as last rider.
More attacks out of the peloton. Some riders really want to use the new situation today, although Cal Giant and Hollister still do a good work.
It`s Sutherland, Elijzen, Van Aelbroeck, Ligthard and Visconti with another try.
Cal Giant is preparing a perfect sprint for Haedo, while Hollister is nowhere in a good position.
Eastman still working hard is ahead of Reijnen, Tolleson and Haedo and just Guillen is able to follow the 4 Cal Giant riders with Sabatini, Santos, Marinangeli and Dall`Antonia being a bit behind.
Also a bit behind the 3 men Hollister train for Davis. They really missed the right moment to find the best wheels. This might be too late now as the actual sprint already starts.
Tolleson as last helper is accelerating now with Ligthard still being ahead. Also Davis is coming fast from behind.
With 600m Haedo is in the wind while Marinangeli and Sabatini really challenge him.
Ligthard had no chance and is caught inside the final km.
JJ Haedo wins the stage after a perfect leadout by his team mates.
But now they must hope for a relaxed Eastman on the mountain stage as he surely worked the most from all GC riders on the flat stages.
Italians Marinangeli and Dall`Antonia follow on the next places with top favourite Davis just being 8th due to his bad positioning.
More riders had problems to follow the high pace and lose 1'01 today. Biggest names Ochoa Quintero and Schwab. So Bianchi just has their main leader Lloret without time lost.
The next riders finish more than 3min behind including some big GC names and the yellow jersey of Santambrogio.
