Tour of Colorado - Stage 8
Mresuperstar
i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/Profile.jpg

After a majority of the top sprinters had to abandon after the hard mountain stage yesterday a few of the average sprinters that gutted it out over the last 7 stages get to shine. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png D'Amore, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/siemens.png Loddo, and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pirelli.png Di Nucci are the top favourites as we head out into this chilly flat stage with snow on the radar.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/1.jpg

The breakaway today gets away on the first attacks.

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/oz-1.png Khalmuratov
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Aker.png Jaramillo
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/csc.png Armstrong
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wwe.png Mayo
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Vespa.png Passalacqua & Cattaneo
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/proximus.png Shatskikh
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Domoulin
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Walsleben

The king of mountains goes untested as the points don't matter as i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/csc.png Zaballa doesn't get in the breakaway meaning i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/siemens.png Marzano will at least win that competition although he is still probably mad at himself for what happened with the general classification.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/2.jpg

The sprint point has no meaning as well except to point out their gap is 5'45" over the peloton at this point, 68kms to go.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/3.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Vespa.png Vespa and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Ferrari do all the pace making today and are keeping the breakaway under control quite nicely. They gap gets a maximum of 6 minutes before it starts to shrink.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/4.jpg

28kms to go and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/c2.png Mangel gives the D2 team one last attack to cheer for,
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Rabou follows the move. Is the chase not fast enough for them?

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/5.jpg

Both attacks get nowhere and instead brings the peloton closer to the breakaway.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/6.jpg

10kms to go and the breakaway is down to just a 30 second lead,
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Walsleben goes on a last ditch attack.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/7.jpg

Disaster strikes for i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/hollister.png Richard Ochoa Quintero as he crashes with 9kms to go, no question he is going to lose his 8th overall. That's some really bad luck for Hollister.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/8.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/calgiant.png Jeannesson tries to get away with 7kms to go thinking the peloton is going to slow down for Quintero. This a great move for California Giant as they lost their sprinter Sinner yesterday.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/9.jpg

Jeannesson goes right past Walsleben while the peloton gets organized into one big train with just 4,100 meters left in this hectic tour. The order:
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Pirazzi
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Marcato
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png D'Amore
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/proximus.png Uugunbayar
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pirelli.png Di Nucci
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Vespa.png Speirs
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/hollister.png Martinez
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wwe.png Keukeleire
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Oliphant
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Sousa
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Bar

Notably missing is stage favourite i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/siemens.png Loddo, who is still trying to make his way through the peloton to reach the front. Bad positioning on his part, surely their manager won't be happy with his efforts today.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/10.jpg

They pick up Walsleben with 2,700 meters to go. Jeannesson is still holding on to a 15 second advantage.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/11.jpg

But that doesn't last long. The final stage will come down to a bunch sprint. Martinez makes the first move out of the train going to the left.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/12.jpg

Keukkeleire follows Martinez on the left while Oliphant takes the right. Leaving D'Amore with Uugunbayar, Di Nucci, and Speirs on his wheel as he starting his sprint with 1.3kms to go. Is that to far out?

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/13.jpg

The helicopter gets a nice overview. Loddo is still missing from the action.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/14.jpg

The middle train gets a burst of speed and starts to pull ahead!

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/15.jpg

D'Amore and Uugunbayar start to run out of steam while Di Nucci and Speirs keep pushing towards the line.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/16.jpg

Daniele Di Nucci with a perfect sprint to capture the stage win. Uugunbayar gets 2nd, Isaac Speirs 3rd. Crescenzo D'Amore, Jocelyn Bar, Jens Keukeleire, Sérgio Sousa, Damian Martínez, Johan Coenen, and Evan Oliphant round out the top 10. Loddo is the odd man out today finishing 14th, due to lack of effort?

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/17.jpg

The GC goes unchanged so Saul Raisin completes the upset!
Well not totally true, I should say the majority of the GC goes unchanged ...

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%208/18.jpg

Richard Ochoa Quintero drops 8 places to 16th overall after his unlucky crash that costed him 4 minutes even with the help of teammate Hicks trying to pace him back.

Well that will do it for the crazy race they call the Tour of Colorado.
