Circuit Franco-Belge - Stage 3
Pellizotti2
i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_P_zpsaa7035e9.png

The sprinters will continue to enjoy their visit in Belgium with another flat stage. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Bennati is obviously the huge favourite after a dominant victory yesterday. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Napolitano may be his biggest opponent, as the Italian is probably eager to defend his yellow jersey. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Vantomme shouldn't be discounted either.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_01_zpsff539376.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/calgiant.png Pasamontes clearly really wants to be crowned king of the hills, as he follows an early attack from i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cerne.png Marco Cunha, together with i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/hollister.png Ruslan Sambris.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_02_zps501186d8.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Vespa.png Mark Scanlon jumps across in the following kilometres and the day's primary breakaway is formed. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/calgiant.png Pasamontes strengthens his beloved KoM lead by winning all three early sprints. The other three show little interest.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_03_zpsba165ba8.jpg

The massive cobbled section a while later doesn't provide much difficulty for the four leaders. Their lead has meanwhile bursted out to over nine minutes.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_04_zpsaa016fa1.jpg

The main field also pass over the cobbles with ease, to a lot of managers' delight. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Pokerstars and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png UniCredit are pacing at the front of the group.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_05_zpsa049e286.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png UniCredit intensifies the chase as they reach the final circuit. With just under fifty kilometres remaining, they've cut down the breakaway's advantage to around five minutes.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_06_zpsfa53ca93.jpg

Twenty kilometres later, the gap between the two groups has been reduced even more, to no more than 2'15. Mainly thanks to i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Puma and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Rothaus helping out i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png UniCredit with the work.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_07_zps7f6ddd91.jpg

The high speed becomes a problem for some nervous riders, and the inavitable happens. A couple of riders get tangled up, and a massive crash is created. The peloton splits near the front, with only around 60 riders making it through!

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Vantomme, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/redbull.png Giaux, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/saab.png Hushovd, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Vaitkus, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Docker, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/BPost.png Van Loocke, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/csc.png Maksimov, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Meiji.png Park and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/koppert.png Dekkers are caught behind. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/saab.png Hushovd is the most unlucky one in this chaos, as he has to abandon.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_08_zps57e5a75a.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Frederik Nolf and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Arnaud Coyot see this a good opportunity to attack. The breakaway is just half a minute ahead, still with around 15 kilometres left to go.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_09_zps20cf1fd1.jpg

The attack forces i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Puma to keep pushing instead of waiting for the crash victims. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png UniCredit somehow also made it through with all of their riders.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_10_zps9e4a5b0a.jpg

All members of the early breakaway are gobbled up just before the ten kilometer to go sign, but the two late opportunists are still pushing on to stretch out the gap between themselves and the peloton.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_11_zps96ee2495.jpg

It's soon all over for them too though. At six kilometres to go, it's certain that this'll end up being another stage for the sprinters. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Puma and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png UniCredit are setting things up, while the second peloton follows, over two minutes behind, with i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Rothaus chasing hard.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_13_zpsa198b67b.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Puma and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png UniCredit moves to the front with their respective three-man trains inside the final five ks. The few sprinters that are left in the group all choose to follow these two strong leadouts.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_14_zps37f13918.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Bennati jumps into a kilometer and a half out from the line. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Haussler seems content just to follow the Italian's wheel, while i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Napolitano tries to react to the danger as well, from further back.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_15_zps6be3cf1b.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Bennati leaves everyone except for i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Haussler in the dust with an amazing kick though! It's clearly a battle between the two German teams for the stage win.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_16_zps8350bc47.png

Also i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Haussler has to let go of i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Bennati's wheel in the final metres, so the Italian has plenty of time to celebrate his second consecutive stage win. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Napolitano beats i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Mohs for third place.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_17_zps0df34ebc.jpg

A strong i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/saab.png Breschel comes in for a clear fifth, trailed by i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Van Impe and the white jersey of i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Blythe.

i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l614/adamsellling/ManGame%20Reports/franco_03_18_zps6511f8b2.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Meiji.png Doi leads the crash victims' group to the finish, but they're a long way behind. The clock stops at 4'11, ending all GC hopes for many team leaders. Really bad luck for several teams.

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Bennati pulls on the yellow jersey at the podium, with i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Napolitano trailing twelve seconds back. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Mohs is now third at 32 seconds, followed by 18 riders another eigth seconds back. Still an open race.
