A 55 kms stage ends this race. Some sprinters may have dificulties in the hill that will be passed several times today. Let's see what happens.
McCarthy (Koppert), Bennett (Oz), Miyazawa (Meiji), McLay (Cyclevox), Jungels (Focus) and Agostini (Ferrari) attacked to form the BOTD.
There are more riders trying to escape. One is Kirsch (Focus) and the other two are Bpost riders, Van Den Enyde and their sprinter, Van Loocke. The two groups would immediately merge.
Puma, Rapha Condor and Trilux accelerate in the peloton and catch the break with 20kms to go.
The high pace in the pack doesn't seem to bother Meyer (Focus) and Westphal (Rothaus) as they attack in the last 13kms.
Westphal rides away from Meyer and he is able to keep a nice pace. He has a 36 seconds gap to the pack with 5 kilometers to go.
In the peloton, nobody wants to relay!
In two kilometers, the peloton lost 40 seconds. Meyer used the small ascents to catch Westphal and now, with 3kms to go, one of them will surely win.
Despite being a worse sprinter, Westphal is still in the front and Meyer has not reached his wheel yet.
We're already inside the last kilometer and Meyer can't close the gap!
Westphal wins! A late attack disorganized the pack and the sprinters' teams wasted a nice opportunity. Rothaus likes that, though!
Bennett rode away from the peloton and that was enough to get a third place.
Flugel didn't want to be surprised and so he sprinted in order to make sure there are no gaps to Froome. There aren't and he is the winner of this year's Tour of Wellington!
