Here we are to the first hilly stage of the race. The GC contenders should make their first moves today.
In this rainy day, 9 riders go to the breakaway.
Jelloul (Red Bull)
Dieteren (Koppert)
Vink (Oz)
Novak (Rothaus)
Elissonde (Focus)
Keldermann (Puma)
Beppu and Shikai (Meiji)
Agostini (Ferrari)
Jelloul is the first by the first KOM sprint. Dieteren, Vink and Elissonde also fought for the mountain points, passing by this order in the mark.
We have to mention the wonderful work performed by Anguilet (Rapha Condor). He has been leading the pack since the start of the stage and he is keeping the break in control. 2 minutes and a half is the gap, with 60km left to ride.
With 27kms to go, the breakaway is now over, thanks to Rapha Condor's effort.
There is no fight for the second mountain sprint. Trilux's guys are relaying in the peloton and Barta is in the front by this point.
As we can see, the yellow jersey is well placed. There is wind, lots of riders are behind, but all the favourites are in the peloton. 20kms to go now!
Admira Hill starts now in these steep and narrow roads! Trilux and Rapha Control are in control. 8,5kms to the finish.
Attacks! 500 meters to the end of the climb (4,5kms to the end of the stage), Flugel accelerates and he is followed by Froome.
Kennaugh gave it all but couldn't keep in the climb. In the descent he tries to recover, but it seems pointless. Behind him, among others, is Langeveld. Even further behind, Gasparotto, Puma's leader.
Froome followed Flugel in the downhill and now the German enters with some advantage in the last climb. Will it be enough to hold off Froome and the peloton, led by Trilux?
It sure is! Neither Froome or the peloton could get close of Flugel, today's winner!
Kirchen is the first in the peloton beating Wegmann and Mori. With the bonus seconds plus today's advantage Flugel and Froome are now in a very nice position in this race.
