Tour of Luxembourg - Stage 5
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_118.jpg
Last stage in Luxembourg. It seems like a typical sprinter stage with some hilly terrain on the first 2 third before 7 laps on the final circuit.
Experts expect a fight between the few sprinters in this race starting with the strong i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Pokerstars duo Guillen and Dumoulin, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/proximus.png Kip and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/redbull.png Brown.

7 riders in the group of the day. The first three in the KoM ranking are missing, so the decision might already have been fallen to the favour of Sandy Casar.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_119.jpg
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bianchi.png Aramendia
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Rabou
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/koppert.png Van Zandbeck
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Passeron
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/csc.png Duenas
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Weissinger
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cerne.png Oliveira

Pokerstars immediately takes control of the peloton. Guillen might be one of the best sprinters here. Especially after Dumoulin was two days in the breakaway he might have been the man with more energy left.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_121.jpg

Soon they are joined by the disappointing Jayco RedBull squad for Brown and also Proximus Trek with one rider for Kip. First ones had good GC ambitions with several riders. In the end they are one of a few teams with mainly high disappointings over the race.
With 75km and 5'42 for the group they are increasing the pace now.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_122.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bianchi.png Aramendia won the first three KoM sprints but was beaten by Duenas at the last. This avoids him jumping on the 3rd in the ranking.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Sandy Casar wins the KoM jersey with two points ahead of i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Kunitski and a shared 3rd for Ovechkin and Aramendia.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_124.jpg

Calm day for the GC teams as the sprinter teams really want this stage and do all the work alone.
3'30 later they enter the final circuit. 45km left.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_126.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pirelli.png Kinney has other plans and attacks. His leader Roche is sitting calmly in the peloton looking to finish in the top5 here, so he is allowed to go for his own with 26km to go.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_128.jpg

Bad luck for Pokerstars. With Maaskant one of the most important helper punctures and falls back.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_130.jpg

With 20km left and a closer coming peloton Passeron attacks out of the group. The Frenchman showed this season how to have success in these breakaways and so the other riders try to follow his move.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_132.jpg

But no chance. With 10km left all riders are caught by Pokerstars. This looks like a sprint finish now.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_134.jpg

Pokerstars with 3 riders forming a train with many decent sprinters behind this one while Jayco RedBull somehow tries to do their own train with arguable success. It`s easy to recognize that the Pokerstars squad is far more experienced in this kind of finishing.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_136.jpg
Clement takes Maaskants job and powers into the last kilometers with Dumoulin and Guillen behind him. Vigano obviously found the best position ahead of Kip, Poulhies and Van Heerden, while Veloso tries to leadout Brown.

With 3km to go Kip decides to change the train and is behind Brown now bringing all later sprinters as also Ignatiev and Roche with him.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_143.jpg

With the sprinter trains waiting for the final punch, it`s Jelloul coming fast on the left with Biondo and Hopman behind him with a long sprint.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_144.jpg

Time for Pokerstars to do their part. Dumoulin accelerates and creates a big gap. Not even his team mate Guillen can follow with Vigano and Smukulis being also in the first rows, while the Brown train totally missed the acceleration.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_145.jpg

Dumoulin obviously started too early, so did the three on the left side. It`s Smukulis and Pineau being the fastest now and also Ignatiev, Roche and Van Heerden come after leaving the Jayco train.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_146.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Smukulis takes a surprising win ahead of Poulhies and Pineau while the real sprinters missed the support or started their move too early.
Ignatiev as 4th ahead of Dumoulin, Roche, Rovny and Van Heerden.
Jelloul and Arndt complete the top 10. Nothing to see from Guillen, Kip or Brown here.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Luxembourg/mg_lux_5_147.jpg

Ginanni takes the overall win. Not undeserved ahead of Claeys leading a very strong Bianchi squad and Di Maggio in third. Roche and Sanchez follow next completing the top 5.

Big winner next to the high GC teams obviously Team WWE, who have 3 riders in the top11 and winner of the team ranking. Also Ginnani must named as big winner as he might have convinced his team manager that he is worth his money.

Therefore a disappointing tour for Jayco RedBull failing in the GC and also in the sprint today, Rothaus failing their high GC ambition due to tactical mistakes but at least winning a stage and 2nd in the KoM ranking and Bpost with Vanendert and Gautier not getting the expected results.
