Tour of Colorado - Stage 2
Mresuperstar
i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/Profile.jpg

The sprinters are list as the favourites again but after what happened on stage 1 anybody could win today's stage, so don't count out the climbers.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/1.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/c2.png Wegelius brings us the first attack today, the D2 Team surely has to be happy with how aggressive their riders have been so far.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/2.jpg

He is joined by,
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/csc.png Zaballa
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Beyer
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Pirazzi

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/3.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Bol
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pirelli.png Diaz Corrales

Come across the gap as well.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/4.jpg

Then,
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/proximus.png Zenagui
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Zepunkte

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/5.jpg

Plus two more,
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/proximus.png Weert
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Aker.png Nevado

The peloton decides to pick up the tempo after these two get away.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/6.jpg

It's Beyer that leads Zaballa and Pirazzi over the first climb.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/7.jpg

On the downhill Zengagui, Zepunkte, Weert, and Nevado join the other breakaway riders. And for now the peloton has stopped chasing again.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/8.jpg

The breakaway starts the next major climb with a 4'12" gap over the peloton.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/9.jpg

The climb is to much for Zepunkte and eventually Zenagui as they watch the breakaway ride away.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/10.jpg

At the top it's Nevado taking the max points followed by Weert and then Zaballa.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/11.jpg

Back in the peloton the climb was to much for all of the sprinters! All the pre-race favourites have been dropped. The best sprinters left in the peloton are
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/hollister.png Martinez
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/proximus.png Nassar

But there is still 63kms left to race, can they rejoin the peloton?

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/12.jpg

At the bottom of the downhill Pirazzi wins the sprint in front of Beyer and Nevado.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/13.jpg

With nothing else happening we fast forward to the final sprint point. Zaballa out sprints Beyer and Pirazzi. The bonus seconds should move these guys up the overall leader board if they do happen to get caught.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/14.jpg

With 38kms to go Zepunkte and Zenagui are meet by the peloton. The sprinter's group is still chasing 2 minutes behind, while the other breakaway riders still hold a 3 minute gap.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/15.jpg

As we approach the third classified climb a few attacks go free.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Criel
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/hollister.png Hicks
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/c2.png Mangel

Having the best sprinter left in the field isn't enough for Hollister. And it's great to see the D2 team continue their attacking mentality.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/16.jpg

The steep incline has allowed the sprinters to connect back up with the peloton!

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/17.jpg

At the top it's Corrales, Nevado, and then Wegelius. The breakaway is starting to lose hope of winning today with the peloton just 1'40" back with 25kms to go.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/18.jpg

The sprinters were given false hope, they are no where to be found after the climb. They are now 3 minutes back and won't be seeing the peloton again today. So now who is going to win the stage?

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/19.jpg

7.5kms to go as the peloton now has the front of the race in sight, a few of the major GC favourites try to get away.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/calgiant.png Stetina
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Aker.png Agudelo
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/siemens.png Marzano

So with the sprinters missing it looks like today will be decided by the GC contenders.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/20.jpg

However with 5kms to go everyone is back together including the morning breakaway. It's all up for grabs now, just like stage 1 was.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/21.jpg

The final climb of the day is just 3kms out from the finish. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/siemens.png Marzano is first over and creates a gap as he heads for the finish! Behind i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/emu.png Nazaret is 2nd over followed by i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/calgiant.png Brandt. Then the rest of the GC favourites are all there chasing them down.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/22.jpg

Marzano has a 20 seconds gap with 1km to go but still hasn't started his sprint, while behind it's a mad chase to pull him back. The yellow jersey of Nazaret is closing fast with Brandt, Colorado, Agudelo, Krasnoperov, and Martinez aren't far behind.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/23.jpg

Marzano wins the stage in convincing fashion after he dominated the final climb. Nazaret closes down the gap for 2nd and will get to keep the yellow jersey for the mountain stage tomorrow.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%202/24.jpg

The sprint for 3rd is also given the same time as Marzano, in fact the entire remaining peloton doesn't lose time today. Mikayil Krasnoperov makes it 2nd and 3rd for Emu Export, Tyler Brandt, Francisco Colorado, Yasmani Martinez, Jairo Agudelo, Peter Stetina, Ricardo Van der Velde, and Saul Raisin round out the top 10.
