Tour of Colorado - Stage 6
Mresuperstar
i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/Profile.jpg

After the sprinters struggled to preform on stages 1 and 2 they will get two more chances at it. Today marks the first chance and the finale on stage 8 will be their last. But the breakaway win yesterday has everyone a little nervous for today's stage. None the less the book makers still favor the sprinters,

Corrales, Zaballa, and Criel breakaway from the other riders after the climb. And eventually the other attackers are reeled back in by the peloton. Leading to three more riders trying to press their luck and get across the gap to join the Corrales group.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Beyer
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Girardi
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Bol

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/4.jpg

And they make the connection with 86kms to go, and quick get a lead of 4'16". So this will be the breakaway of the day. Pretty small compared to ones the have been formed early in the tour, so that should make the chasers happy.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/5.jpg

The riders just roll through the sprint point since it really has no effect on them. But for those that wanted to know, the order was Beyer, Bol, and then Criel.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/6.jpg

With 72kms to go and the gap at 5'37", we see our first snowflakes of the tour. Most of the riders didn't see that coming today as most are in short sleeves. The weatherman also predicts more snow for tomorrow's stage as well. Not like the climbers needed any more challenges to deal with.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/7.jpg

Zaballa, Criel, and Girardi are the order through the second sprint point. But more importantly they just have a 4'45" lead with 52kms to go. The sprinters are really keeping tabs on the breakaway today.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/8.jpg

Speaking of which i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/oz-1.png Oz and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wwe.png WWE are the ones taking up the chase.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/9.jpg

The peloton is cutting it a little close as the lead is still 3 minutes with 30kms to go at the next sprint point, but they are stilling chasing hard.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/10.jpg

Don't get fooled by all the banners as i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/c2.png Mangel decides to attack out of the peloton with 30kms to go. But he is quickly brought back, you can't say the D2 hasn't been trying. They really have brought a lot of energy with them here in Colorado.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/11.jpg

13kms to go and the breakaway is through the final sprint point. Their lead you ask, just 1 minute. Time is running out for them.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/12.jpg

And just before the 5kms to go banner the breakaway is caught. Some great work by WWE and Oz will allow the sprinters to finally contest a bunch sprint.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/13.jpg

The sprinters line themselves up for the sprint,

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/14.jpg

Leadout man Keukeleire peels off with 1800 meters to go. That's a long ways for Vingerling to hold off his rivals behind. Di Nucci without help on the right quickly fades.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/15.jpg

Benoît Sinner and Alberto Loddo dart out of Vingerling slipstream with 1200 meters to go. Jonas Aaen Jørgensen follows Sinner as Clarke stays put on Vingerling's wheel. Falling off the pace is Khayabkhyrvaa Uugunbayar.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/16.jpg

Clarke struggles to hang onto the fading Vingerling, while Sinner takes the lead. But Loddo is coming on strong.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/17.jpg

And it goes right to wire!

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/2012/Reports/Colorado/Stage%206/18.jpg

Sinner nips a charging Loddo on the line. Jørgensen waited to long on Sinner's wheel and finishes 3rd. Michael Vingerling, Simon Clarke, Khayabkhyrvaa Uugunbayar, Crescenzo D'Amore, Daniele Di Nucci, Mattia Gavazzi, and Evan Oliphant are your top 10. So now that the sprinters finally had their fun, we go back to the mountains for one last time tomorrow.
