Tour de San Luis Discussion
roturn
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/profiles/hc/hc_tsl.png

The Tour de San Luis has a long history in the Man Game being held since 2010. Though the profiles and divisions changed a lot. So the winner list goes from popular names such as Rein Taaramae in the first two editions or Alejandro Valverde in 2012 over Dave Zabriskie to Pedro Nicacio or Mauricio Soler in the latest editions. Though the profile used to be a lot more mountaineous back then.

The 2016 edition sees an additional stage but got rid of all mountains being more a hilly race with a 20km time trial. So while the puncheurs might be favoured due to 4 hilly stages of which 3 end uphill, the time trial is only 20km, which though might still have a big impact. The opening prologue of 4,3km in addition could already see an early selection of the better time trialist.

In the end the startlist has a nice spread over pure puncheurs and puncheurs with good time trial skills. So which are favoured?

On the left the puncheurs of which some are not too bad against the clock but surely no specialists. Standout rider there definitely pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/alm.png Froome, who is the best puncheur in the race and surely hopes to win. His TT skills are mediocre, so he needs to gain time in the hills for sure.
On the right the better time trialists, that still are solid puncheurs. Quite a few riders could be named here such as Schumacher, Sanchez Gil or Bibby. But the standout rider in that list is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Costa, who is not that much weaker as Froome uphill but a much better time trialist. Might even be the top favourite.
Other riders to point out are Reus as one of the strongest time trialists, who did well on similar courses already, though the hill skills by him are already quite a bit lower. Similar for Nepomnyachsniy, Oliveira or Paillot.

I really appreciate the time you have taken to fill out all those favourites. It's a pleasure to go through each single rider and see their highlighted stat. Thanks!

Compal sending their B/C/D-team here as this race is clashing, but let's hope that means we finally will be active in breaks like the good old Armavia times Smile

I still think this is the race we have the best GC chance considering the lineup. Obviously Costa is the favorite, but is the only one I am afraid of. Hope former rider Durasek has a good race. Also Bialoblocki might be lucky here Smile

My only rider in any of these tables is Quaade and he is a joke. Grin
Wang with 75 Hill only just missing out though. I'll be happy with every point in this race. The most likely way to score any is through breaks so I hope my team has the right attacking spirit.

Finally get to see Sanchez in action, he should be pretty good here, could get a podium or top 5 but don't see him winning as Costa is better in the hills and TTs, perhaps if stage 6 counts the mountain stat, but that would favour Bibby more. Pfft Who knows what will happen though, going to keep my hopes up for now. Smile

Betting on Costa though. Pfft

Thanks for the preview Roturn!

Nice preview!

Expecting a couple of good TT's from Paillot and hoping that the rest of the team will be active in the chase of glory.

If I get out of this race without any stage victory will be a big disappointment, Kupfernagel It has everything to win at least one stage. From Vogt did not expect much from what I see so far, even more when you have ahead 24.5Km of TT.
For me Costa will take this one

Let's see what surprises the PCM AI will bring me here. Will Nepom lead the team and put in a similar show as the last Tour of Ukraine, or will Konovalovas be favoured with a better HI stat, or even Prevar who is quite shit at TTing?

The aim here is to get Bibby on the podium, and to see Bellis to rack up points in the flat and hilly stages - with the exception of Stage 2 they all look good chances for him to perform.

I'll take Froome for this one. I think his advantage in the hills outweighs the relatively short TT's. My hope is that Schumacher can finish somewhere around 5th, and Reichenbach in the top 15 maybe. It should be a fun race.

Thank you for the awesome reporting, previews, and pace roturn.

One of the two big races Zardini is leading us. Stages 3 & 6 are the main targets as his climbing talent can expected to come in handy.
Marcel Aregger is trying to give us a headstart. Staying within five seconds in the prologue may give him the chance to grab the leader jersey sprinting on the podium of stage 2.
Otherwise (or in addition) we try to find our share in the breakaways. It's a low pressure race as we didn't send a big leader to Argentina.

Since Costa isnt racing Ukraine, this will perhaps be his biggest chance of winning something throughout the whole season. so would be really nice if he delivers!

Exciting to finally see him race. If we should get a top 10 in the rankings we definetely need him to perform in the few important races hes participating in

Will be interesting too see how much Froome will gain in the hilly stages here, he could rack up quite some points here even if he shouldnt win

My only aim is a stage win here, Van Winden can make or break our race. Our team is pretty weak anywhere else so not many expectations.

Not a tip top opposition for Froome, who I think will only have to fear about Costa here.

Thanks for the legendary efforts roturn.

Hoping AKA can be a good domestique here for In n' Out. And hey, maybe he can even get into a break and sprint from it. He's usually pretty decent at that sort of thing.

Gotta cheer for LLS for reasons. Let's hope his declines don't hurt his performance too much.

Thanks roturn for reporting another race. Pace is awesome so far!

Ah, okay. My squad here is so shit

Got a decent hilly trio in Betancourt, Acevedo and Weber so hoping for something from this race, although Betancourt's abysmal TT will need to be assuaged by some good climbing if he is to make a good GC place. Will be interesting to see how the balance between hill and TT amongst the favourites plays out: I think Froome will struggle to sufficiently drop Costa to exceed his losses over the (albeit very short) TTs.

Lovely preview, thanks!

Well we face our most unpredictable season goal here: KoM.
We are riding for our home crowd so we'd love a stage win here. We're going to do our stinking best, either way!

Smowz
In paper you would imagine it is about Froome dropping Costa, but of course who knows what kind of shananighans the AL will play on us. I think if a longish chrono AL likes to protect the chrono beasts so Bibby, Reus, Nepo and Costa could do okay. Then again we have just seen a massive hill stage in East Africa so perhaps similar carnage in Argentina?

Froome bot FTW

Hoping that this is a good race for my team! Got Caruso in here for the GC and the hilly sprint stages. Roy hopefully will also get a decent GC with his decent TT ability. Let's see if duo leadership can work here for me.
