The Tour of Britain has a lot to offer here. 5 hill stages of which 2 are clear hill top finishes and another 2 are having a short but steep wall to climb in the end. Then 2 sprinter stages and a 16km time trial for some further selection.
Obviously being able to time trial will help you but it`s in the end a pure puncheur race as 16km clearly is not enough with 5 hill stages. But it`s long enough for some close decisions of similar strong puncheurs always finishing together.
Bellis (11/12) and Ben Nasser (15) have won in the past and are back at the start but the competition became a lot tougher since and hence they are no longer the very highest favourites. That said Ben Nasser dominated last year in a similar field, so why not again?
Froome as another home rider alongside Bellis might be biggest favourite here, while McCarthy was strong already in 2015.
Costa and LLS have the advantage of a good TT but lack the power on the uphill sections while Ulissi might grab bonus seconds on his way to glory.
Pretty open race here with such variety really.

The list of sprinters clearly not that impressive. Kupfernagel, Modolo and Lavoine might have won the most in their career. Rowe and Harrison clearly want to show something at home.
Pelucchi, Hayakawa and Gatto might challenge them while Reimer might have chances on hillier terrain even.
The time trial is wide open as well. Dillier, Salas and Van Winden equally strong. Van Winden probably with biggest palmares so far, while Stannard as home rider should have extra motivation to show something.

This is it! Tour of Britain is the home race of the season for Froome and fingers crossed, will be our possible way back to the Top 10! Quite satisfied with the opposition, as it is still 8 race days long. Will be key to get an early lead or Froome will do as he has done, from the start of this season to now. Losing momentum will be key here, so hope for the best and will only accept a win as a good result

Froome desperately needs a win here, if Arrinera somehow wants to come back into contension. And I see that very much possible.

In hindsight, I could've, should've sent Sanchez to many classics in place of this, and after Grand Prix Cyclistes, my expectations are low - he'll need a good minute at least in the TT I reckon just to make up for the stage 6 time loss and points are going to matter a lot lest we end up in the relegation battle now.
Kinoshita is my pick for the win given all he's great form. Thanks Roturn!

This is a race where I only want Ulissi to beat Gautier to remain above those Ayubowan whippersnappers, at least as long as possible, his TT is too low to expect a top 5 I'm afraid.
Hard to make predictions here, but if there's someone who can gain time outside of the TT, that's Kinoshita imo.

Dowsett's home race, and we have the team that can really help him out and have him aim high in the GC. The TT is a worry, but at 16km, shouldn't been too much of a problem.
Hopes for a Top 10, but a stage win and a day or two in yellow at PCT level would be the dream! Alex needs to channel his form similar to ToSA

Ulissi may beat Gautier. Bellis will make sure that it means nothing 
The aim here has to either be getting both our leaders into the Top 10, or getting Gautier a Top 10 and Bellis going for stage results. No doubt the TT will hurt our leaders, but it's a short one and the time lost can easily be made up on the hilly stages.
I can't be too optimistic however, after seeing what happened when I sent Gautier and Reus here two seasons ago while in the promotion hunt and had an absolute nightmare race in terms of GC. Saying that, we still promoted - so I suppose a repeat may not be all that bad |

Thanks for the preview, roturn!
We definitely need some luck to justify our stay in Britain pointswise. If there is asked for climbing power in the later stages it might be a opportunity for Zardini to make a jump in GC. Otherwise stage results by Gatto and a fight for the KOM-jersey by Kohler are our best hopes in a talent-packed field like that.

This is one of the biggest races left for us automatically as its one of Kinoshita's last couple. Looks like it will be a very tough race, but Im hoping for podium by the end of it. The TT will probably be the decider. And yenno if im being optimistic maybe a stage win from Hayakawa.

10th in nice and no loss aside from the time bonuses, good protective work by Stachowiak too.
Little bit worried by PCM treating LLS as more of an outsider than usual, I guess we'll see after the ITT.

All right that's more like it! Who would've thought that Froome would win a sprint finish DDDDDD
Good start off the bat for the team and hopefully we can limit our losses to none except for the Time Trial and take that momentum into a GC win. I will probably only be disappointed saying that, but I will go for it

That stage always looked like a "bunch sprint" type day. Would have liked Kinoshita to be a bit higher up, but I didn't expect him to win with other riders having a bit better sprint.

Well that was pretty meh, Gautier and Bellis normally do well in big group sprints. Still, no time loss is always a good thing - and most of the good TTers looked to have lost time. |
