Clasica San Sebastian Discussion

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/profiles/hc_sans.jpg

The HC Clasica San Sebastian has a long history as a Man-Game race. From 2007 to 2009 it was ranked as a PT race, and since 2010 it’s now an HC race.

Many top punchers have written their names on the winners’ book, last being pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vtb.png Cesare Di Maggio, who comes back here as the main favorite once again.

San Sebastian has the merit of being an open and difficult to predict race, which can be won by many kinds of riders. This year’s startlist features several names that can grab the first place on the podium.

One name is clearly above all: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vtb.png Di Maggio. Nonetheless, he’ll have a hard time repeating last year’s win thanks to the combative field he’ll have to face.

Right behind him, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/prp.png Rui Costa and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tom.png van der Hugenhaben are the other top punchers to watch out for. Also take a look at pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ken.png Ben Nasser, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rge.png Meyer and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbc.png Bellis in case of a tight sprint!

Talking about sprints and sprinters, should the weaker punchers survive to the steep slopes of the Basque Country’s ascents, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gzl.png Pozzato, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ken.png Impey and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vtb.png Gatto are going to be the main favorites.

But let’s make sure we don’t forget about the potential late attackers. Riders like pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rge.png Haas, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gzl.png Hofland and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/akm.png Bystrom should be the most likely to attack in the final kilometers.

I'd say Bellis would have to be the favourite for this race given his STA, HI, SP and ACC combo, however I'm very interested to see how well Prevar can do on his own, without having A Efimkin with a higher HI stat but worthless ACC.

Also like the face old-loanee Tanovitchii and former rider Konovalovas are mentioned here. Smile

This is a race that should suit Meyer perfectly. Hopefully Levarlet, Haas, Ziesler and Trentin can make it in to, or around, scoring positions.

Even though the profile is kind of dull, it should be an very open race. Hopefully it will be a good one.

Putting my money on Reimer, actually.

Ready for another disappointment by Geschke....

You know, when planning the season I actually expected Mikel Landa to be worth any thing.. Now I just gotta be pleased if he finishes inside top 15.

Hoping for a break-away result here althoug its extremly unlikely since the stage is too long for breaks to succeed.

Some top puncheurs missing here, especially weird to see LLS missing here on home soil, his overall skills would make him a favourite here.

Can Roy keep up his challenge for worst rider of the season by finishing outside the top 30?

Great preview, hoping to get into the break in this one.

It was a difficult decision and i think i had this in his schedule in a first draft but unfortunatelly, LLS has very limited RDs so I had to make a choice.

During planning I somehow thought that Geschke / Siskevicius would make an interesting duo due to their strong finish in these kind of races. I speculated on large groups and that they could outsprint most inside these groups. That's why LLS does not race many of these hilly with flat finish classics. But the way G/S perform I gave up my hopes. Let's see if they at least finish ahead of Roy Rolling Eyes

But seeing that this decision let me pick another stage race for LLS (i think it was Ukraine which wasnt in the first draft) i could have chosen worse Pfft

Win goal... Ben Nasser or Impey must produce here, or it will be 0/4 goals for us. I know it's improbable, but just got to hope they pull off the miracle Grin

I hope to see Bystrøm, Dyrnes, Robinson Bugge or Hoelgaard in some kind of move, especially after our (no) showing on Isle of Man. That probably means we won't do anything, which admittedly is to be expected seeing their quality, but I guess you always have to hope Pfft

Looking forward to the racing!

Thanks for the nice preview, matt!
Hope Di Maggio can achieve his first Classic top5 this season, it's never too late to earn his wage.
Realistically, yeah... Bellis sounds like a good bet. Maybe Pozzato, Craven... not to forget Monfort.
Looking forward!

Only chance of success is a coming together so that the sprint from McEvoy and Vakoc can make a difference

Our second visit to PCT this year, but we dont expect anything great really, maybe Tanovitchii can do something with his always agressive racing or Grosu/Popkov for top15 if the race should be non-selective, but i would not bet on that. Smile

Cool to have a chance again and compete with some of our old rivals and friendly teams like COC- Nemiroff, i am keen to see what best ukrainian puncheur can do.

Great preview Matt!
I'll be back

Our last racing goal failed then, and a horrible result as well. Really disappointed neither of our leaders could even get in the top 20, even if Ben Nasser did try an attack.

Anyway, congrats to Chernobyl on a great win for Prevar.

FINALLY! Was about time we won something, and this is just perfect. Prevar has spent 2 seasons at different teams gaining valuable experience, thanks Metinvest and Red Bull! Brilliant way of winning, and it actually reminds me of Vorganov's win in Yekaterinburg back in 2013. Just like Prevar now he attacked early and refused to let anyone pass him again.

140 points too! These will be very valuable in the fight against relegation, but unless Nepomnyachnsiy rides a good Volta a Portugal I'm still not too optimistic.

Chernobyl! That win really does stir up some stuff down in the relegation battle.

Green circles aside, wonderful report Matt. Definitely provoked some emotions from me, and twas a nice flowing style. Wink

Really pleased with Maldonado in the break, that makes it a great race for us. Happy with that show.
