Its about time to announce the new British team from Yorkshire. They are Team ASDA-Savers and they aim to take the Continental Tour by storm before hopefully becoming one of the more well-known teams in the world.
So heres some information on them:
ASDA
Savers
These are of course the named sponsors and will have the highest input in terms of money and riders we'll look at attracting to the team.
We'll be aided by UK Youth who have in the past had a cycling team so we'll get to pool the knowledge from them while, in return feature on our jersey and be part of our initiative.

The idea of starting team on the professional circuit started a few months ago on the boards of both ASDA and Savers. Both companies are common on the high street and both were interested in headlining a cycling team in Britain but it was clear to both companies that 'going it alone' would be a bad idea with both companies not looking to pay out for the running of the team. I had been in contact with both companies and with negotiations running to a standstill, I recommended to them if they would become partners, they both snapped up at the offer and the Team has become known as Team ASDA-Savers.
Richard Maynard (CFO of ASDA) said:
"Seeing the popularity of cycling grow in recent years in Britain has certainly become an area which we have been looking to tap into for some time so becoming a sponsor of a team is certainly going to be good for the team. We hope that this will be a good form of advertising for us and with the growth of the team, maybe we could sponsor a few races in the UK as well..."
An Asian Flavour?
The team will hopefully have a focus on the British Isles but will broaden its horizons to other English speaking nations if need be. A.S. Watson Group, owners of Savers is based in Hong Kong and has also expressed interest in the team, so maybe we'll see a few asian signings, who knows?

Here are the goals for the 2014 season:
Top 10 CT Rankings
Top 3 Selkin Classic
15 Stage wins in season
Win Lincoln GP
Stage Wins Tour de Beuace
Hopefully these will be achievable for the team, transfer targets will obviously be made to satisfy these goals

A press conference was announced earlier today so the press could get a glimpse of what the new Team ASDA-Savers team would look like in the new season.
The management unveiled the team bikes but the jersey was still put on hold for another day, we'd like to thank fintas for making these as well!
so here it is:

With the transfer season still going strong, Team ASDA-Savers can now announce their first signings for the season, they are:
Simon Richardson
Flat | Mtn | Hill | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Sprint | Acc | Fght | Downhl | Prl | 67 | 74 | 73 | 62 | 71 | 68 | 72 | 63 | 58 | 62 | 60 | 72 | 62 |
He is a decent climber and a good domestique for the other leaders of the team. He may get a free role in the mountainous races depending on how the team pans out.
and
Matthew Brammeier
Flat | Mtn | Hill | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Sprint | Acc | Fght | Downhl | Prl | 72 | 52 | 63 | 71 | 70 | 66 | 67 | 61 | 74 | 77 | 72 | 56 | 71 |
Matthew is a solid rider with abilities in time trialling and as a sprinter. He will be a key member of our leadout train and could find himself as a leader depending on the race.
Both are on a low wage, Richardson from the Free Agency and Brammeier will come Team Kenya Airways, with the final paperwork still being gone through
There will be more updates on who we sign later in the window

3 Asians join ASDA-Savers
With some discrete advise coming from some influential backers in the hierarchy of the team, we have announced the signings of 3 Asian riders, which will surely please the A.S. Watson Group, who we believe are interested in the project.
They are:
Yu Takenouchi
Flat | Mtn | Hill | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Sprint | Acc | Fght | Downhl | Prl | 73 | 58 | 64 | 61 | 72 | 70 | 68 | 74 | 65 | 70 | 67 | 68 | 61 |
Yu will likely lead the team on the all important cobble races that we will race but he is a strong rider who can possibly be seen in breaks throughout the season.
Chun Hing Chan
Flat | Mtn | Hill | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Sprint | Acc | Fght | Downhl | Prl | 66 | 62 | 70 | 64 | 69 | 67 | 64 | 53 | 56 | 61 | 72 | 51 | 64 |
The weaker of the 2 Hong Kong riders brought in to satisfy the secondary sponsor nationality, he will support the leaders on the hills but he will also get the free reign of attempting break aways as well.
Wang-yip Tang
Flat | Mtn | Hill | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Sprint | Acc | Fght | Downhl | Prl | 68 | 67 | 71 | 64 | 70 | 69 | 69 | 50 | 69 | 69 | 67 | 64 | 64 |
He is stronger than Chan but he will be useful as a team mate throughout the season. Who knows what he can do?
They are all signed on a £50,000 wage so they wont hurt us financially either.

Some nice signings so far. Mostly look like support riders but Brammeier will be good in the right races and Takenouchi looks like he can grab some top 10s in cobbled races as well. Richardson is a nice rider as well.
Anyway off to a solid start, I look forward to seeing what you do with the rest of your cap space!

Takenouchi could prove to be a really good signing for the cobbled races at 50k, and Tang is one of those riders who is great if he gets in the break.
An incoming signing from Jaguar could be useful for your stage wins goal as well.

Thanks, yes that incoming rider from Jaguar will certainly be helpful @SportingNonsense, he will be announced later.
I will be hoping the majority of my stage wins will come from him and 2 other riders that I am completely blowing my budget for

I'd thought of signing Takenouchi but in the end I decided against it, since Im going to avoid cobbles as much as I can anyway

With the transfer season almost being called a day at the Team ASDA-Savers headquarters, its about time that we can reveal our leaders for our season, who will 'fly the flag' for our team and hopefully bring us many results as well.
They are:
Jonathan Tiernan-Locke
Flat | Mtn | Hill | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Sprint | Acc | Fght | Downhl | Prl | 67 | 68 | 76 | 61 | 73 | 68 | 70 | 53 | 63 | 74 | 73 | 65 | 61 |
Jonathan is a strong puncher, ideal for the continental tour. We are glad that we can announce his signature as he generated a lot of interest from other teams.
Matt Rowe
Flat | Mtn | Hill | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Sprint | Acc | Fght | Downhl | Prl | 72 | 50 | 62 | 67 | 80 | 58 | 79 | 67 | 80 | 70 | 61 | 66 | 67 |
Rowe is a top quality sprinter who can hopefully be a top rider for our team and hopefully he can be a top scorer for us this season
And finally our last rider is:
Ian Stannard
Flat | Mtn | Hill | TT | Sta | Res | Rec | Cob | Sprint | Acc | Fght | Downhl | Prl | 75 | 53 | 55 | 79 | 69 | 70 | 67 | 66 | 57 | 72 | 69 | 61 | 79 |
Our final leader will be Ian Stannard. Brought in from Jaguar-Eritel, he is a very good time trial-list who will lead the team in smaller flat tours with time trials, he will obviously be a key member of the team and he will be the main source of stage wins
We are obviously very pleased that we have all 3 of our leaders who are British leading the team as it is an area that we are focussed on. We hope that although these riders have taken a large chunk of our budget, it will be justified by the results they achieve.
Good Luck!
