Copenhagen-Malmo TTT Discussion

Copenhagen-Malmo TTT

København – Malmö 58.6 km

Welcome to the Copenhagen-Malmo TTT, we are here to test the debt of Pro Tour teams with regards to tempo rider debt and team organization.

The route takes us from Copenhagen to Malmö, passing Öresund Bridge, a Cable-stayed bridge over Øresund strait between Denmark and Sweden, with intermediate time check on each side of the bridge. A race like this could easily be extra hard if we get wind on the long open section passing the bridge.

The local spectators will most likely cheer for Søren Kragh Andersen, Michael Valgren Andersen and Magnus Cort Nielsen on the Danish side, Johan Lindgren, Tobias Ludvigsson, Thomas Lövkvist and Alexander Wetterhall on the Swedish side, maybe giving Volvo, Grieg – Eftel, Air France and RBC a little extra motivation.

It is very hard to predict this kind of race, how to value the top 2-3 riders against the fourth or fifth or sixth etc., while also considering tempo against resistance.
I will give it a go, trying to take it all into consideration, this is my estimate:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_tti.png Team Tinkoff in my view the strongest team, having 5 top tempo riders with Kritskiy as the star besides being a brilliant tempo rider also very resistant.

PCT team pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png cycleYorkshire also amongst the very strongest, also with a very strong best 5 riders, setting them next best is very marginal, they are almost equal.

Same goes for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bnm.png Bennelong – Mitchelton, clearly the team with the best debt, but I believe the lack of someone like Kritskiy, might be the Achilles' heel not to make them the absolute favorite team.

Then a small strength gap down to the next three teams, but small and we are still in absolute race favorite territory.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_tmo.png T-Mobile, stands out with Fiedler as a super strong leader, combined with a perfect top four.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ubs.png Team UBS a team similar to Bennelong with only god riders, a stronger top rider in Dillier, but with a little less debt.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gzl.png Gazelle, Madrazo a star with good tempo/resistance combo, fine debt, but just overall a little bit weaker than those above.

Beneath those six teams we again have a gap to the next three:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_akm.png Aker – MOT with a strong leader in Paillot, but lacking some debt below the 3rd riders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_vlv.png Volvo acc. by Spotify, good leader in Haugard, fine debt, but somewhat weak in resistance below Haugard

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_aeg.png Aegon – Lavazza, fine top four, good overall resistance, but critical lack of debt that may lose them riders early.

The last team in my top ten is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_prp.png Porto – Prio, again a team with some debt, lacking a little bit in resistance, but not too bad.

The remaining teams were also analyzed came out on this order:
Desigual; Team Puma – SAP; RBC Pro Cycling
Hugo Boss; Grieg – Eftel; Team Reddit
Moser – Sygic; Berg Cycles; eBuddy
EA Vesuvio; Air France – KLM; Isostar Slovenija
Festina – Dexia; Evonik – ELKO

Combined TT strength of top 5 riders / team, the list may be different than the above, as more parameters was included in that analyze:

Oh no. Not this race... Pfft

Well, if we don't end up last it will be a huge succes.

Top 10 is absolute our goal here!

Surely not ideal to have those later 3-4 in. But anyway think the "climb" is playing a huge role and hence Dumoulin and Frison are also not hte most ideal while 5 riders with 70+ hill at least should come handy there.

Top10 my aim but might be close.

Favourite wise I feel Bennelong might be surprised in the end. Great TT riders but weak on that uphill, where they lose a lot I think. Berg and Aker a lot more balanced there.

Gazelle, RBC on the podium with Tinkoff, Aker, Bennelong, Berg also in the fight for top5 though.

Yap, might come short this time, but looking at the total TT score, podium must be the goal. We also had just Durbridge as a 80+ rider last season, where I believe our depth paid off. At least you can compensate any bad daily form, if you're worst TT rider comes at 76 TT.

Not sure whether to go for the "complain until you win" strategy (which never really worked for me) or the positive approach... I'll pick the positive! Go and get us title #4 here Smile

Would settle for 20th Pfft Kittel and Jungels to guide around those with spare RD or XP needs.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out at the front.

Apologies to the MGUCI, but I had to use this race to level up my riders. Zmorka and some other TTers will still be here though, so I hope to finish my first ever wildcard race far away from last place.

If we somehow could steal a top 5 that would be awesome, but no big expectations here. I get to hope that my climbers can drag the team up the little hill and Fiedler drag the rest of the way

fintas
I would very much like to get at least a top 10 in this race, my fear is that the difference between the two best and the rest of the team is a lot and that it has negative influence.

I think you're being too generous as far as my team is concerned, if I really got a top5 it would be like a win for me

Admittedly we have improved our TTT squad, but that doesn't say anything, really Pfft

No expectations here, as my team is far too varied, as the key in TTT often is to have an even team. Top 15 might be realistic, but much more than that will surprise me, eventhough we're expected to be in the bunch behind the top 6 teams.

Looking forward to the race, difficult to name a favourite, but surely interesting to see Madrazo join the TTT fun!

tastasol
Sold our three best TT guys, lost Dempster in renewals and loaned out Wurtz. Fair to say that we are much weaker than previous seasons, so a top 15 should be our goal here.

The profile looks like a typical short sprint stage but Horton actually looks like one of the strongest sprinters attending. Not gonna complain though. Maximov is obviously the big favourite here.

Maybe offtopic but what does TTT in the race name stand for? I searched for the abbreviation but nothing really made sense:

Team TomTom

Things Take Time
Table Tennis Tournament
Tinkoff Trails Tsmoha

For your team Things Take Time fits well ;-)

To be honest, I did not take the "climb" into consideration when making the preview, only ingame realised how steep it was.

Never even had a TT rider in MG last season, no idear what they do ?

Does the PCM version include the long tunnel section then island of the Oresund Crossing, or is it 'just' depicted as a very long bridge?

Each season the appearance of this race on the calendar brings back happy memories, reminding me of my summer internship in Copenhagen working on designs of the double-decker cable-stayed bridge section too many years ago now to want to say Embarassed. Still looks spectacular whenever you fly into Copehagen, and often the flight path as you come in to land is also right over one of the original offshore wind farms at Middelgrunden completed a couple of years after the bridge which also looks suitably majestic with it's long curved sweep of turbines all in one row.

As far as the race goes, I'm going to tip Tinkoff for victory in the hope that this result helps them get an early buffer to the relegation zone, as perceive them struggling at a lot of other outings during the season. Other perennial TTT favourites like Bennelong also will be looking for a similar outcome. After an underwhelming contribution in Qatar, hoping our loan-out Mraouni can be of decent assistance to EA Vesuvio here, and may even be competent enough to be among their 5 'counters' at the finish?

I would say Team TimeTrial but The Tinkoff Train is also correct, we need to win this to discredit all those crazy Tinkoff relegating predictions.

I think we can top-5 it, but maybe I'm crazy. We've got a solid lineup here and a lot of my guys can handle the hill. Thanks for the preview Tamijo.

Our first race with the big boys! Pfft

Don't think we'll do as well as the prediction makes out but I'd take a top 10 result here, don't think that is too unreasonable! Grin
