Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne Discussion

Kuurne – Bruxelles - Kruune
ProTour Race

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/profiles/pt/pt_kbx.png

Coming straight after the Omloop Het Niewsblad, the Kuurne – Bruxelles – Kuurne gives the Cobbled Stars for the PT peleton another shot at glory in Belgium. However, with less cobbled sections, the last of which comes with a quarter of the race still to go. Could one of the fast men pick up the win on what has been historically a race for a Northern Classics rider?

The Favourites - Cobblers

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vsa.png Vanmarcke807072

You could take that list of favourites directly from the Omloop Het Niewsblad preview. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bec.png Sam Bewley, fresh from his victory in Ghent, will be the bookie’s favourite to take the double, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Marcus Burghardt and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/evo.png Greg van Avermaet, will be looking for revenge after having to settle for a podium on the day. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/azt.png Danny Summerhill, who was disappointing in Omloop, will be looking to make up for his ride to Ghent, and the same can be said for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Adam Blythe, who was also unable to follow the moves of the favourites.

Despite missing out on a podium, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pnd.png Florian Senechel rode with a high level of credibility and will no doubt give his Pendleton’s team some confidence of a repeat performance. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vsa.png Sep Vanmarcke ended the race strongly and left questions of where he would have finished if he had followed the moves, and the same can be said for the likes of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kdd.png Stijn Vandenbergh and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lpu.png Kenneth Vanbilsen.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/evo.png Dakterris777772
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Stepniak777766

As mentioned, the low number of cobbled sections could give the peleton’s sprinters a chance of hanging on and being able to contest the sprint at the end. Many managers appear to think the same, and the big names are here in anticipation of that scenario.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbh.png Mark Cavendish, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Peter Kennaugh and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kdd.png Cameron Meyer are all stand-out names, but I wouldn’t go ruling out pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Lahcen Saber, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bpv.png Joeri Stallaert and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Luke Rowe, as they all have the Cobbled skills to come into the finish with a bit more freshness.

Elsewhere, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mus.png Tyler Farrar, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lpu.png Kevin Peeters, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tsa.png Pavel Korzh and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Michel Kreder are just a handful that could cause a shock if they get their positioning correctly.

And another race Bewley never won. Time to change this. Pfft

@ollfardh: Updated now - thanks for that!

@roturn: only Belgian winners, so a non-Belgian would be something new as well Wink

Omloop went well.. can't expect Burghardt to repeat a podium, I fear. But of course we need to score well on cobbles no matter what. Saber will hopefully save his energy instead of joining our support team in the chase of the bunch .

lol how did Stepniak find his way to the preview GrinDDDDDDDD

It fits Bewley perfectly, so of course he will take the win here Smile

As mentioned in the Omloop-thread, this will hopefully be a less selective race. A 30-40 man sprint with Trentin and Rowe surely the scenario I'm hoping for here. Anyway, hard to look past Bewley here, especially after his performance in Omloop.

Another cobbled Classic and i hope for another podium from Greg. Bewley once again top favourite but Greg should be again one of the closest challengers.

Maybe if all the other favourites work together they could tire Bewley?

Stallaert has to do something special here, but Bewley will of course win.

Bewley has to be the clear favorite here, though I wouldn't put it past Cav to give him a legit run. Don't see this being a breakaway type win, expect a bunch of 30-40 to contest with most of the major sprinters protected well enough to still be around in decent shape. Not really a good prediction for my man Danny, but hope for the best.

Hmm I get the feeling if the race ahd one metre of cobblestones, CO stat would be king so I will be highly surprised if Cav can make the final group. Would like to see Kristoff though make it, though I have my doubts.

Bewley can be beaten in this one though as you would like to think there will be a few more around at the finish.

Bewley is obviously the favourite again, but it will be interesting to see how AI handles this one, with not much cobbles. Obviously I hope it won't be very selective, so Kristoff can fight for a top 5, either in a sprint with no one in front, or behind Bewley/GVA/anyone strong enough to stay away from the peloton in the final kilometers with no cobbles.

Though, the pressure really is on Summerhill and Burghardt, as Bewley will be the favourite in a sprint as well. If those two can't make a difference on the cobbles, I'll be hopeful for a sprint with Kristoff involved.

Avin Wargunnson
There is a bigger chance to beat Bewley here i think, as more guys can arive in leading group maybe and surprise him with early kick, lets see.

We again aim for two in the top20, Nolf does not have a sprint, so it will be nearly impossible to crack top10 with him i guess.

Good luck to all! Smile
I'll be back

Again fingers crossed for a top-10

I hope for somewhat of a selection so that both Blythe and Daniel can fight for the win, but most of the 77+ sprinters won't make it or will at least be spent.
Their 76 sprint is one of the main factors why I rate both of them rather highly, and this might be the best opportunity to make use of that.

Two in the Top 15, Blythe at least in the mid-Top 10 should be realistic.

beagle
Thanks for preview, t_h. Looking at some outsiders mentioned above, I expect TOP5 for Kluge, at least!

In my opinion, Bewley obvious winner here, only GVA and/or Blythe could challenge him.
