Massive shoutout to Chris Lawless for being in the main favorites group at 60km to go, epic for a non-climber neo-pro, and then going onto not finish the race. What a day for him!
Talansky with a steady and consistent day, 7th place (or 5th of the non-break) puts him ahead of many better climbers. Cracking effort from the American, the experiment is definitely succeeding so far.

Would've been nice to get in the break, but we came with no expectations, so I won't complain. Only 2 finishes (over 1 fifth of the non-finishers!) is a special accomplishment as well.
Was shocked for a second to see Nielsen with his >60 Mo in a high group, before I realised that he was lapped and just mistaked to be in the group.
Ticos really needed the points that they got, congrats Ste! Great report as well Abhishek, only critique I have is that it would be nice to have a list of DNFs at the end.

Congrats to everyone who scored well and thanks for the report. As I suspected we will not score a single point on the mountains this year I think.

Guess that is what happens, when two teams with a deep core of climbers manage to join the early break. Massive results for both Ticos and Berg. A detailed report, which covered those dramas of being dropped and catch up again, just to get dropped again pretty well. Definitely some bad results for some big guns. Uran and Intxausti should be happy enough given some circumstances. Even though I prefer those classics to be won by the best climbers.

Massive result for Ticos, congrats! Good day for Berg as well, while Ferrero and Henao the big loser of the day.
0 points as expected, but Lunke not that far off in 65th place. Better than expected guys (though, would have been nice to join the break, the only possible way we could do anything in this race).

Nice try by Senni, but not near enough unfortunately. Would've been nice if we got into that first group with a guy like Dall'Oste or something.
Good win for Tico's, they look fairly doomed early on, but this is a victory to be proud of.
And as always, a big thank you to the reporer!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Two teams from both ends of the table with major performances: Ticos with a very surprising 1-3 starting their fight against relegation now after multiple competitors already had a few upset results earlier. Also Berg who were due a good result somewhere. Congrats to both teams!
Spoiler Any chance we can return to some slightly less extreme mountain profiles after the season?
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

What the fuck was that from Brajkovic. Being almost the exact same rider than Talansky and loosing 13 minutes on him. Guess he's looking as a worse bet than I hoped for for the season.
Brändle kind of saving the day. Looking at the riders from the breakaway ahead of him is painful though. Seems like he did slightly too much work - still at least bringing home some points.

Great result for the team, all goals were achieved and exceeded.
Antunes with a huge result, 2nd in a race like this nor in my best dreams could I imagine. Also Marquez with a great performance, 4th without the break is very good and to finish Nazaret culminated a great day for our team.
Although there is still a long way to go, it is becoming clear that betting on the teams Depth was the right choice...
Congrats to Ticos with a huge day for them and many thanks for the great report

Fantastic report, first win for the team for Dayer Quintana, Barguil looked strong throughout too,, I feel I may have supported my leaders well this season utilising my mountain depth

Well that was disappointing. Frank should have had no trouble staying in that breakaway, and Schelling should have done better than 18th. Fun race to follow either way, congrats to Ste for the huge results here.

Did not expect this at all before reading the report, although i had the feeling around mid-race, that the breakaway would make it. Big race for both Ticos and Berg, congrats to both!
And thanks for the report Abhishek! It was really good

Thanks for the great report Abhishek and congrats ste on the double podium.
Good result by Úran, can't really complain even though I had a win goal in and he could've won. A shame the break wasn't caught else he would've been second.
But I'm disappointed in our mountain depth today. Coming here with 5 75+ climbers I expected at least a minor points position but not even Pantano (79) couldn't finish top 30. I'll blame the strong startlist and the fact they worked hard in the early parts of the stage.

If someone told me Shikai would finish 26th at this race before it started I would have laughed at them....
Thats basically how I feel about this. I mean he's what, a Top 10 rider in PCT according to MO stat and has pretty solid backups, although maybe not quite as high as others.

Poor from both Kudus and Berhane. Seemed to switch around over who was best placed, and in the end neither went well.
Disappointing too that the breakaway did so well.

Always disappointing in a one day race like this for the break to stay away like that. Kudos to Ticos though, that's a huge result! Intxausti with a great race unfortunately settling for fifth and Brenes in tenth is good to see. Could have been a different race though if the break was brought back much earlier.
Thanks for the report!

How ironic that Nairo's sucky brother ends up winning the race while Nairo himself can't even finish in top-20. |
