This great preview is made by jandal, who initially was due to report the race but i had to take over as he had some problems and he didn't have time to do it again
Race should be posted at worst on Monday, but could be posted tomorrow depending on whether LTAB preview is posted tomorrow or not
GP Herning
We join you in Denmark today for the 2017 edition of the GP Herning. This one of the fan-favourite modern classics of cycling: a brutally tough cobbled route which will favour the strongest of the strongmen. Last year was a highly aggressive race but in the end was a small group sprint won by CT rider Thomas, who's back again, this time as a lieutenant for Burghardt. In fact, four of our five former winners here are back, Albert is leading the Minions whilst Taillefour and Giaux will be working for their respective leaders.
The course takes us around the Herning area, with the back half consisting of a circuit just outside the city. It's not too long compared to its peers but it has a ridiculous amount of cobbles, with a higher cobbled to sealed ratio than Roubaix, including a sector of over 10km first up. No hills to speak of but the stones should speak for themselves and see a decisive race. However, the flat sections do make it harder for a soloist or duo to go clear occasionally, as evidenced last year and in 2009/2012, but the other editions have seen soloists take the victory. So plenty of scenarios possible.
Rider | COB | SPR | FLA | Rider | COB | SPR | FLA | Burghardt | 82 | 67 | 77 | Bush | 78 | 71 | 74 | Teunissen | 81 | 67 | 76 | Polanc | 78 | 67 | 72 | Daniel | 80 | 76 | 73 | Albert | 78 | 63 | 75 | Wisniowski | 79 | 73 | 80 | Nepomnyachsniy | 76 | 78 | 74 | Kamyshev | 82 | 66 | 77 | Sibilla | 81 | 66 | 71 | Altur | 80 | 72 | 75 | Rowe | 75 | 79 | 78 | Nolf | 80 | 63 | 74 | Theuns | 76 | 77 | 72 | Thomas | 79 | 74 | 75 | Breschel | 76 | 76 | 74 |
We can clearly see that the favourites here are purely those with brute cobbled strength and decent backups, with sprint coming in handy too. This puts Podium Ambition's Burghardt as the #1 favourite. He's got the defending champion and still very much a threat Thomas by his side, who is one of the better sprinters out of the top guns but may have to sacrifice himself for the German. The trio behind Burghardt consists of Daniel, who's the best in a sprint out of the top cobbled favourites, Wisiniowski, a very well rounded cobbler who lacks the top strength, and Teunissen, asides from Kamyshev the next best to Burghardt on the cobbles. All three are very feasible winners.
Behind them are leaders like Nolf, Altur, Kamyshev and Polanc. Could win, definite podium contenders, but not on the same tier as the top four. Probably Altur with the best shot given a decent sprint, however Kamyshev is very powerful on the pavè and also Robert Bush, from WCC in the CT, could do well in a small group sprint. Next are a few more cobbled contenders and an interesting bunch of sprinter-cobblers. All are second options (Nepom for Daniel, Theuns-Teunissen, Rowe-Wisiniowski and Breschel-Nolf) but could do very well in a sprint if they have the energy left and could steal the race. Rowe is the best there in a sprint whilst Gent-Wevelgem winner Nepomnyachsniy is probably the best hope for a win.

This is one of the best chances this season for Teunissen to shine since there's no hills or anything potentially hindering his performance. Top 3 would be great, but top 5 is a more realistic hope.

Albert's a former winner, I hope he can repeat that feat but it will be very difficult. Will definitely take a top ten and some decent points.

Unfortunately we're not in this race, then again, we'd just screw it up again.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Weird that we only have 6 riders here, I thought I would've been using every slot possible for our talents, although maybe Herbiers and the Bongo clash prevented us sending so many riders.
Anyway, we have an important goal here: Beat the Control Team. Anything less and we will be very disappointed.
Hopefully PCM's cobbled AI can finally stand up to a good race, they're my favourite types of races so it'd be a let-down if we had another Viano.
Thanks a lot for the preview Jandal/Aquarius!

Goal achieved! Well, you need to finish the race with one rider...

This is our win goal. We're not gonna win, but just this once, I really want a top 5 or equivalent points. It's our home race on one of our favorite terrains.
But more importantly, I really freaking want proper AI for a cobbles race instead of the crap we've gotten so far this season.

We are here just to enjoy the views, if anyone of the team can finish this race will already be a victory.

Another of WCC's HC race gamble based on using RD's saved by avoiding Tachira at the start of the season. Whereas Strade Bianchi didn't play out too well, have higher hopes here in Denmark for some solid results from Bush et al. This might well be the most suited vs. top PCT competition, although WCC obviously not a favourite. Hoping for a nice points haul to start the new month as currently running quite a bit behind target!

A good opportunity for Rowe and Wisniowski, hopefully they can deliver a top result. Hope we get a proper race this time, unlike the other cobbled classics so far.

Another great report Aquarius. The race was perfeclty played by Podium Ambition, gratz. Really nice to see how Thomas builds up quite a rep in this race.

Podium playing it smart, even though it hurts Burghardt eventually. 1-6 is still great, so congrats, TMM.
Nice report once again. Thanks!
