Hills and dirt roads. That what awaits to the riders in Strade Bianche. With Tour of Almaty being held also in the same day, the PCT puncheurs will be shared between the two races, but with Strade being a HC race (Almaty is C1), most of the top puncheurs in PCT will be here.
| 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 2016 | L.L.Sanchez | A.Flugel | P.Gilbert | 2015 | W.Kelderman | J.McCarthy | H.Ben Nasser | 2014 | M.van Stayen | H.Ben Nasser | D.Ulissi | 2013 | J.Bellis | B.Hermans | M.Elijzen | 2012 | R.Costa | D.Appleby | J.Vansummeren |
The starlist is led by Grieg’s rider Edvald Boasson Hagen. The Norwegian is the best rider by far for this race, being the best puncheur in the world (by the HIL stat), and a combination of stat that makes him perfect for this race.
Behind him, three names that they are really close to each other. Chris Froome is a really strong puncheur, but he lacks the sprint ability to win the race. To win this, he would need to arrive solo to Siena. Last year he was third, a result he would like to improve this year.
Cyril Gautier and Maurice Scheurs are two riders fairly similar, one with a bit better sprint and the other a bit better in acceleration. If the race is not raced very hard, both will have a strong chance to win in a very reduced sprint, although Hagen is still faster than them.
A bit behind those three riders, two “stat-wonders”, like Aleksandar Flügel and Cesare di Maggio. These riders are likely to either win or to not be even in the top10. Flugel was second last year after “Luisle”, and Di Maggio has been consistent in the 7-15 area in the last 3 years in the race.
Aiming for a top5 place there will riders as Jull-Jensen, Meyer, Caruso, Zaini or Mohoric, who are not top puncheurs in the division, but have another strong abilities which can led them to a great result.
We also have here some hilly sprinters, like Tsatevich, Yates or Kadri. They are unlikely to win, as the race will be too hard for them to stay with the best riders, but if they are well-placed in the final climb, they can guarantee their teams a top 5-10 result.

Need a good result here after a few weak results. Podium at least.

Well it will be almost impossible to win now that EBH is here, but I guess we can improve last years 3rd place and perhaps make it a 2nd place. Also you have Gilbert as 3rd last year.
Looking forward to this

Top 10 and Top 15 have to be the goal at least - nice preview! Go Mohoric!

Wish I was here to defend Lulu's win.
Great race though so will be fun to see, Mohoric to podium, but I'm picking Juul-Jensen to win.

Decided to send Ulissi to Almaty considering how bad he was last year, but it looks like we weren't the only ones with this kind of idea, not sure what to think atm
Lavery and Roglic should still be strong enough to potentially go for either a top 10 or both in a top 15 or whatever really, as long as we score points. Probably one for Hagen.
Thanks for all this work of late Aquarius

Really hoping for a top ten from Juul-Jensen here. We brought the hills depth squad again for him. He probably has to be aggressive, so that's what we're hoping happens.

I expect yet another smash and grab for EBH here. I actually believe that Juul-Jensen could snatch a t5 if the race lines up in a specific way.

If Zaini can still grab a decent result here, Kinoshita should have a great shot at Almaty, which was what I was hoping for as it seems most of the competition is here. I dont actually know if the new PCMs have a nationality bonus, but Im hoping that it works out for Zaini.
That downhill right before the final climb, hopefully gives Zaini a good shot as well.

Pretty sure it's been removed a few editions ago. Which is a bit of a shame, imo.
Obviously a race for EBH to lose. Hoping for an interesting race and for Travis Meyer to take this rare opportunity to be amongst the Top-10 contenders.

Another race in a whole season of uphill struggles for Yates. He's got a lot of riders that should easily beat him here. Top20 would be a nice result, depending on how the race plays out.
Ewan's out for more XP, and the rest of the team probably won't contrubute much to the race at all. Hopefully someone will get into the break.

We're not here so I can't complain about any lackluster performance. Good luck to everyone who thinks they can beat EBH.

Hopefully Gautier can live up to his 2nd spot in the favourites list, but there's a lot of strong punchers here so a lot will depend on daily form I'm afraid.

Love this race. I liked the outcome of the last two episodes a lot and there are always beautiful shots from the race. I hope that Boasson Hagen doesn't dominate this race too much but ofc he's the clear top favourite so he would deserve another victory. As always I'm cheering for Valio to do well and Gautier is one of those who can do very well here. Generally, the startlist doesnt look too strong so Mohoric might do decent as well.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Kraftwerk have 2 of last years top 5, hope we can repeat a top 5 finish with our full team here as we are not riding Almaty.

Need my riders to get a good result in the Hills as they have struggled recently.

Not a lot of expectations for this race with the weaker team here with the clash with Almaty.
